4.4 magnitude earthquake hits Jhajjar, Haryana, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR
The tremors were reported in Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, and adjoining areas. Tremors were also felt in Meerut and Shamli in western Uttar Pradesh, about 200 km from the epicenter in Jhajjar.
In a post on X, NCS wrote, "EQ of M: 4.4, On: 10/07/2025 09:04:50 IST, Lat: 28.63 N, Long: 76.68 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Jhajjar, Haryana."
Soon after the earthquake struck, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) issued an advisory on X, sharing do's and don'ts. The NDRF advised the people to stay calm and not to panic. It also suggested they consult a structural engineer to make their houses earthquake-resistant.
According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi is classified as Seismic Zone IV. It is categosied as a "High Damage Risk Zone" and indicates a high potential for earthquakes of moderate to high intensity. "Seismicity around Delhi appears to be associated with a major geological structure, which is known as the Delhi-Hardwar Ridge. It coincides with the extension of the Aravali Mountain belt beneath the alluvial plains of the Ganga basin to the northeast of Delhi towards the Himalayan mountain", Delhi Disaster Management Authority states.
Speaking to ANI about the strong tremors, a Ghaziabad resident said, "I had woken up just at the time when there was a jolt. I was scared. There was another earthquake just a few days ago. Delhi-NCR experiences earthquakes quite often. So, we should be mindful of safety and precautions..."
Another resident in Ghaziabad said, "The tremors felt quite strong...I was at a shop when it hit, it felt as if someone was shaking the shop."

In the next five days, light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning will prevail in several places of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Telangana. Himachal Pradesh On Orange Alert In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has sounded an 'Orange' alert for Tuesday, indicating a possibility of very heavy rain in certain areas of the state. Official sources said that until Monday, 310 roads, including a national highway, were still closed to traffic because of prolonged moderate to heavy rain. The constant rain led to large-scale disruptions, affecting connectivity and day-to-day life in the hilly state.

Thundershowers likely in parts of Maha this week
Pune: The Met department on Monday issued a forecast for thundershowers across parts of Maharashtra around Aug 7, but officials clarified that these would be convectional in nature, and not typical monsoon showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated heavy rainfall over different regions of Maharashtra and adjoining areas in a phased manner. Marathwada is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall on Aug 6 and 7, while Konkan and Goa are expected to receive similar precipitation on Aug 7 and 8. Madhya Maharashtra may witness isolated heavy rainfall on Aug 8. Pune city may also get passing showers around this period. IMD scientist S D Sanap said, "There has been significant heating over the past few days as the monsoon has remained subdued, leading to increased solar heating. In the coming days, moisture incursion is expected over Maharashtra because of a weather system (upper air cyclonic circulation) developing over the southwest Bay of Bengal. This moisture influx can trigger thunderstorm activity. The system has been forecast to move westward and produce good rainfall over the south peninsula, while simultaneously causing moisture incursion across most parts of Maharashtra. During such conditions, secondary atmospheric disturbances can trigger convective activity, leading to thunderstorm development over central and western India. Weather experts said these thunderstorms during break monsoon conditions were typically scattered and isolated in nature, with the potential to produce intense rainfall over small areas within short durations.

Heavy rain likely in northern West Bengal till Aug 10
Heavy rain is likely in the sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal till August 10 owing to active monsoon flow, the IMD said. Some southern West Bengal districts are also likely to get heavy rain till August 7, it said. Owing to the active monsoon flow and strong moisture incursion, widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over the northern districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Coochbehar till August 10. The southern districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman and Nadia are likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places, while light to moderate rain is likely in most places of the region till August 7, the IMD said. Kanthi and Kalyani received the maximum rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday, at 100 mm each. Kolkata received 37 mm rainfall during the period, while Cooch Behar got 45 mm rain.
