Suspect in 2023 fatal Bronx car wash hit-and-run charged with manslaughter
Trina Bryant was arrested Wednesday after the NYPD said she struck and killed Felix Thomas Bontia in the Bronx in February 2023.
She pled not guilty to an 11-count indictment charging her with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and more.
According to police, Bryant was driving a Ford Escape with Georgia plates when it veered into a bus lane and struck a Toyota RAV4 that Bontia was drying off on Webster Avenue near 168th Street in the borough's Concourse Village section.
Bontia was pinned between the cars and did not survive.
Investigators at the time said there were two women in the Ford Escape, the driver and a front-seat passenger, who drove a short distance away before they fled on foot.
The accident, which occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, was captured on surveillance video.
Bontia worked at the car wash for about a year while his family was back home in Mexico, CBS News New York reported at the time. His friends and coworkers in the city said they called him Benito Felix.
The driver in the RAV4 was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The HOA management company, based in Hillsborough County, claimed that Green had 'browning grass' on her lawn, a dirty mailbox and a commercial van, among other minor violations, which they said they ordered the woman to correct. 'The grass has started turning brown. So then they started sending notes,' Green told ABC Action News. 'And it went from the grass being brown to there's a dent in my garage.' After the lawsuit was filed, Green said a judge gave her 30 days to tidy up her lawn and to correct the violations, or she would be jailed. 'I sold my van to comply. My mailbox was cleaned to comply. I bought seeds and watered my grass to comply," she told ABC Action News. Despite her attempts at resolving the issue, Green was later arrested after missing a next court date in August 2024, the outlet reported. 'I was supposed to receive documentation. On May 23, while picking up her 15-year-old daughter from cheerleading practice, Green was pulled over and arrested, according to ABC Action News. 'There was no bond. So I couldn't even go home to my family,' she told the outlet. 'I sat in there for seven days in the jailhouse like a criminal.' According to jail records seen by PEOPLE, Green faced two charges: contempt of court and failure to comply with court's order to show cause. Green was released from jail after her family presented evidence that she had cleaned up her yard to a different judge than the one who signed the arrest warrant, per ABC Action News. 'It makes me feel horrible. I work hard to buy this home for me and my kids in a better neighborhood and environment, and to be taken to jail and to be treated like that for brown grass at my own home ... that's horrible,' she said. Aurora boy, 16, killed while riding scooter in hit-and-run crash, police say
A 16-year-old boy was struck while riding a scooter in Aurora and later died in the hospital. Now police are searching for the vehicle and the driver who hit him. The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. Friday at East Wesley Drive and South Dunkirk Street, Aurora police said on Saturday morning. The boy was conscious but with serious injuries when first responders arrived. He was taken to the hospital, but later died. A vehicle struck the boy from behind and then fled the area, police said, and there were no witnesses to the crash. Investigators have no information about the vehicle that was involved, other than that nearby residents reported hearing loud exhaust around the time of the crash, and are asking anyone with cameras in the area of the crash to check their cameras' footage from 11:15 to 11:20 p.m. Anyone with footage or information about the crash is being asked to contact Aurora police.
