Please accept my apology – Zakes' Sports Corner was wrong!

SEDIBENG.- There is a theory that rugby is a white sport for several reasons.
Zakes' Sports Corner is also guilty of thinking this.
Recently, I had the privilege to attend the SAPS Rugby National Championships here in the Vaal. Zakes' Sports Corner must confess; this was the first time I was tasked to cover a rugby event. Zakes' Sports Corner was also under the impression that rugby was a white sport until last week, when I attended the rugby national championships finals at the Isak Steyl Stadium.
Wow!
Zakes' Sports Corner was stunned by the atmosphere on and off the field, especially in the stands.
It is such a privilege to be an African, as the former President Thabo Mbeki at one stage told the world: 'I am an African'. Without any doubt, I must say this: I'm proud to be an African, or should I say South African. The singing on the stand was at another level, and Zakes' Sports Corner thought that vuvuzelas were only for soccer matches or something of the past, but I was wrong. I hope you will accept my apology for thinking that vuvuzelas and rugby don't mix.
Zakes' Sports Corner was stunned by the atmosphere on the stands, with spectators beating the drama, singing non-stop!
Zakes' Sports Corner even forgot that it was a rugby tournament!
Not only on the stand, on the field of play as well, the atmosphere was equally unbelievable – action galore.
Zakes' Sports Corner enjoyed every moment of action both on the stand and on the field.
This theory of thinking that rugby is a white community sport must be deleted from our thinking capacity.
We are better than that!

Kaizer Chiefs: 'From Pirates to Sundowns' - Full list of players linked

Kaizer Chiefs are linked with several big-name signings from all over the PSL. Kaizer Chiefs continue to dominate the transfer news headlines. So, lets take a look at all the players linked with Amakhosi. Stanley Nwabali Feisal Salum Luke Baartman Asenele Velebayi Lebogang Phiri Fiston Mayele Percy Tau Zakhele Lepasa Dzenan Zajmovic Etiosa Ighodara Amakhosi's squad overhaul is well underway. To date, Chiefs have made 18 changes with 10 new players and EIGHT departures confirmed. However, they are not done with changes yet. As always, Amakhosi continue to be linked with big-name signings. Nwabali is their main goalkeeper target with Chippa open to letting him go. So, it will be up to Amakhosi management to make an offer and Nwabali to decide where he wants to go. Talks have gone quiet for the likes of Salum, Phiri, Tau and Mayele. Meaning, these moves are unlikely to materialize. In fact, Chiefs have shown no interest in Tau despite the Bafana Bafana attacker disclosing his willlingness to join them at a substantially reduced rate. Whilst, Mayele brother shut down rumours of joining Chiefs recently. Meanwhile, Lepasa recently left Orlando Pirates. Thus, re-sarking rumours over a possible move to Amakhosi. However, this is just heresay or an idea with no interest confirmed from either party. Chiefs are closing in on two players – Maartman and Velebayi. Meanwhile, Sundowns striker, Ighodaro is training alone as he contemplates his next move. Chiefs have shown interest and he is on their radar. Whilst, he is currently contracted to The Brazilians. Therefore, the ball is in his court. Chiefs are in the market for a striker, a winger and a midfielder. Meanwhile, Amakhosi are considering recruiting a goalkeeper. Meanwhile, more Chiefs players are heading out of Naturena. Dr Henning Gericke – From the Rugby World Cup to Kaizer Chiefs

From Rugby World Cup winner to the 'chief' at Kaizer Chiefs. When Henning Gericke played for Northern Transvaal at the Primary Schools Craven Week with Uli Schmidt, he probably could not have imagined in his wildest dreams how his life would play out. In his day, he was one of the country's best middle-distance athletes. Almost 50 years ago, he set a world record for 16-year-olds in the 1 500m at a meeting in Stellenbosch. He bettered almost every South African junior middle distance record and became an athletics sensation in the colours of Menlopark High School. His duel with Johan Fourie and Deon Brummer was a highlight that will always be cherished by South Africans. So was his race against the experienced Loop and Val Matthew Motshwarateu. After qualifying as a psychologist and receiving his doctorate, he started a successful practice in Middelburg. His first motivational speech was at Dennesig Primary School, and the first professional sports team he became involved with was the Pumas. Then followed highlights that will make up a book with individual sportsmen who excel with his input, such as swimmer Cameron van der Burgh. He wrote several inspirational books. And then his big moment… he became part of Jake White's management team that won the Rugby World Cup in 2007. Few people are aware that this is not Gericke's first involvement in soccer. He also assisted Bafana Bafana during the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. Carlos Parreira was the coach. Amakhosi have been preparing for the national soccer league in the Netherlands for the past month, with Gericke assisting them. His biggest challenge begins on Sunday when the national soccer league kicks off with Kaizer Chiefs playing Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium. Mamelodi Sundowns are once again standing in the way of other teams after winning the league for the past eight years. Gericke always said when he coached athletics at Middelburg Hoërskool that it is difficult to turn a donkey into a racehorse. Yet he has turned many donkeys into winning horses. He said on Thursday, after a training session at the Chiefs' head office at Naturena, that sport is all about human values, 'leadership is everything', and our motto is 'keep the fire burning'. He is also still involved with the Blue Bulls, where Johan Ackerman plays the guitar these days. @middelburgobserver From Rugby World Cup winner to the 'chief' at Kaizer Chiefs.
