Approved commitments hit P90.96B in Jan-July 2025, up 100% —PEZA
In a statement on Saturday, PEZA said it approved P90.96 billion worth of pledged new and expansion projects from January to July 2025, up 100% from P45.48 billion worth of green-lit investment commitments year-on-year.
The investment promotion agency said 150 newly approved and expanding projects saw a 25% increase from the 120 projects approved during the same period in 2024, 'highlighting strong investor confidence and sustained trust in the Philippines as a premier investment hub.'
The approved investments are expected to create 35,874 direct Filipino jobs, up 42.02% from the 25,259 jobs seen in the same period in 2024.
The PEZA is also projecting a 24.37% growth in exports, reaching $2.003 billion.
'This 100% surge in investment approvals in just seven months is a resounding vote of confidence in the Philippines as a competitive, resilient, and innovation-ready investment destination,' said PEZA Director General Tereso Panga.
'Investors are scaling up in our ecozones because they recognize our stable policies, world-class talent, and our whole-of-government commitment to building smarter, greener, and more inclusive growth centers across the country,' he added.
For July alone, the PEZA said it approved 17 high-impact new and expansion projects that are poised to inject P18.6 billion in investments, generate an estimated $744.06 million in annual export revenues once fully operational, and create 2,891 direct jobs for Filipino workers.
The approved projects this month span a range of industries, including 11 in export manufacturing, three in facilities development, two in IT-BPM, and one in domestic-market-oriented manufacturing.
The projects are 'strategically located' across Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas.
Meanwhile, the PEZA said it remains optimistic as the Philippines continues high-level negotiations to compensate for the newly adjusted 19% US-imposed tariff on Philippine exports.
The agency said the Philippines has one of the lowest US tariff rates in Southeast Asia, as government and industry leaders are hopeful about the renewal of the US Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the start of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with the US. — VBL, GMA Integrated News

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. vowed to improve basic services in the last three years of his administration during his fourth State of the Nation Address. Before lawmakers, cabinet officials, ambassadors, and other dignitaries at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday, the president said the results of the recently held mid-term elections is a clear message that the people are dismayed by the performance of the government. He said his administration must do better and be quicker in ensuring the welfare of Filipinos. 'Kung datos lang ang pag-uusapan, maganda ang ating ekonomiya, tumaas ang kumpiyansa ng mga negosyante. Bumaba ang inflation, dumami ang trabaho,' he said. 'Ngunit ang lahat ng ito ay palamuti lamang, walang saysay, kung ang ating kababayan naman ay hirap pa rin at nabibigatan sa kanilang buhay.' To this end, Marcos reported what the government has achieved so far, what is being done, and what plans of action are to be implemented for various sectors. Labor Marcos said his government is working to give jobs to the 4% of the workforce that remain unemployed. The president plans to grow various industries including automotive, molding, electronics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, local textiles, Halal, construction, and power plants to create more jobs. Agriculture The administration will allocate P13 billion to improve the programs of the Department of Agriculture so the P20 rice per kilo can be rolled out nationwide through the Kadiwa stores. Marcos will also request Congress to amend the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act to address the needs of the coconut farmers in support of the industry. The Department of Agriculture is also disbursing Certificates of Land Ownership Award, e-titles, and Certificates of Condonation with Release of Mortgages for the beneficiaries of agrarian reform. Public Utilities Marcos addressed complaints over the lack of water supply, with over 6 million people affected nationwide. The Local Water Utilities Administration is now taking action against water districts and their joint venture partners. To address lack of electricity, he said almost 200 plants will be constructed in the last three years of his administration. This will provide electricity to four million households. In addition, over one million households will be equipped with solar-power home systems by the end of 2028. Education The government allocated P1 billion for the construction of over 300 Barangay Child Development Centers and 'Bulilit Centers' nationwide to address the long-term shortage of daycare centers. To address classroom shortage, Marcos said 22,000 classrooms have been constructed in the past year. The administration will strive to build 40,000 more in partnership with the private sector before he steps down in 2028. PhilHealth coverage has also been expanded to include kidney transplant, open heart surgery, heart valve replacement and repair, emergency services, various outpatient services, and more. Peace and Order Marcos said government agencies are cooperating to solve the case of the Lost Sabungeros. He vowed to go after the people involved and make them accountable, whether they are civilians or officials. The president also said over 153,000 arrests have been made in anti-drug operations. Over 9,600 are high-value targets, over 670 are government staff, over 100 are elected officials, and over 50 are police. Almost P80 billion worth of illegal drugs have also been confiscated. Transportation Additional train cars from the Dalian trains procured in 2014 are now being deployed after not being used for a decade. Persons with Disabilities, senior citizens, and students will now get a 50% discount on the MRT and LRT, up from the previous 25%. The Love Bus of the 1970s will also return and offer rides for free. Pilot testing is already underway in Davao and Cebu, with more cities in Visayas and Mindanao to follow. Infrastructure The Guadalupe bridge connecting Mandaluyong City and Makati City will be rehabilitated to ensure the safety of the public. A detour bridge will be constructed on both sides and work on the main bridge will only begin once this is done. The construction of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will begin before the year ends. It will connect Mariveles to Naic, cutting travel time from five hours to 45 minutes. Meanwhile, the Mindanao Transport Connectivity Improvement Project will rehabilitate the major roads connecting Cagayan De Oro City, Davao City, and General Santos City. Marcos also vowed to look into flood control projects after many cities and provinces experienced flooding due to the effects of the Habagat and the recent typhoons. The Department of Public Works and Highways will submit to him a list of all the projects that were started and completed in the last years. This list will be published for transparency. Construction of Bataan-Cavite bridge to start before 2025 ends —Marcos
The multi-billion dollar bridge project connecting the provinces of Cavite and Bataan will begin construction before the end of 2025, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. said Monday. The Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge project, envisioned to be one of the world's longest maritime bridges, is set to be bankrolled through a multi-tranche financing scheme, under which $2.1 billion will be financed by the Asian Development Bank, while $1.14 billion will be co-financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. 'Bago matapos ang taon, magsisimula na ang Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge. Ang tulay na ito ay tatlumpu't dalawang kilometro ang haba, at tatawid ng Manila Bay,' Marcos said in his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City. (Before the year ends, the construction of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will begin. This 32-kilometer-long bridge will stretch across the Manila Bay.) 'Kung ang biyahe ngayon mula Mariveles hanggang Naic ay umaabot nang limang oras, balang araw ito ay magiging apatnapu't limang minuto na lamang,' the President said. (If the current travel time from Mariveles to Naic is five hours long, it will be shortened to just 45 minutes.) Spanning a distance of 32.15 kilometers, the project is poised to provide a strategic convergence between Regions III and IV-A, fostering greater economic growth and improved tourism. The project will be divided into seven contract packages, with the construction to begin first in the two on-land packages. Package 1 is the 5-kilometer Bataan Land Approach, and Package 2 is the 1.35-kilometer Cavite Land Approach. Packages 3 and 4 are marine viaducts in the north and south with a total length of 20.65 kilometers. Packages 5 and 6 are the North Channel and South Channel Bridges with lengths of 2.15 and 3.15 kilometers, respectively. The seventh package involves project-wide ancillary works. The 32.15-kilometer, four-lane inter-island bridge will connect Barangay Alas-asin in Mariveles, Bataan, and Barangay Timalan Concepcion in Naic, Cavite. The bridge will have two navigational bridges, the 400-meter North Channel Bridge and the 900-meter South Channel Bridge, that are expected to traverse Corregidor Island. Marcos urges int'l businesses to 'invest in the Filipino, PH agriculture'
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Monday vowed to stir growth in the manufacturing and agriculture industries, calling on international businesses to invest in these sectors. Back in November 2024, Marcos signed the CREATE More law which increased the investment capital approval threshold for the country's Investment Promotion Agencies from P1 billion to P15 billion pesos.
