Three takeaways from Tennessee's 2025 pro day
Tennessee held its 2025 pro day at Anderson Training Center Tuesday.
Former Vols James Pearce Jr., Omarr Norman-Lott, Elijah Simmons, Dylan Sampson and Dont'e Thornton Jr. participated in various components of Tennessee's pro day after attending the NFL scouting combine.
Additional Tennessee pro day participants included defensive lineman Omari Thomas, linebacker Eli Purcell, safety Will Brooks, long snapper Matthew Salansky and offensive linemen John Campbell Jr., Cooper Mays, Javontez Spraggins, Andrej Karic and Dayne Davis.
Of Tennessee's participants, Pearce Jr., Thornton Jr. and Sampson addressed media following their drills. Three of the most important moments from their media availabilities are below.
James Pearce Jr. discusses character
As the NFL draft approaches April 24-26, Pearce Jr. discussed his character following Tennessee's pro day.
"(I want teams to know) that I'm a great guy, a great teammate, great player, people person and that I have a good heart," Pearce Jr. said.
Dylan Sampson showcases health, receiving ability
One of the many problems that led to Tennessee's downfall against Ohio State in the College Football Playoff was an injury at running back with Sampson. He discussed his recovery following pro day.
"For one, I hope everybody sees that I am healthy and moving well," Sampson said. "I also wanted to show my receiving capabilities, show I can run routes and catch the ball naturally."
Dont'e Thornton Jr. displays speed, verticality
Thornton Jr. was quick to suggest the best comparison to himself among current NFL wide receivers being Nico Collins. Both Thornton Jr. and Collins are taller receivers who are capable of being explosive with downfield speed.
"I'm a bigger receiver, but I would also say I'm versatile as I can play both inside and outside," Thornton Jr. said. "That's the main attraction for a lot of teams."

Jets HC Aaron Glenn downplays revenge game versus Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers
Jets HC Aaron Glenn downplays revenge game versus Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers Aaron Rodgers is headed back to New York in Week 1 — but Jets HC Aaron Glenn seemingly couldn't care less. Back in April, Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to explain the unprofessional nature in which his Jets exit was handled— with the description of events almost painting Glenn in a negative light regarding the situation. With that in mind, the Rodgers-led Steelers taking on Glenn and the Jets has been billed as one of the biggest revenge games in the 2025 season — a notion the head coach shot down at mandatory minicamp. When asked to share his feelings about facing Rodgers in Week 1, Glenn smiled and even acknowledged that he was fighting back the urge to — but ultimately downplayed the head-to-head matchup as just another game (courtesy of Paul Andrew Esden Jr): "We have 17 really good games that we got to play," Glenn said. "And I'm looking forward to playing every one of them." Glenn was then asked if the noise and distractions surrounding Rodgers returning in Week 1 worried him — and this was his response: "This is the NFL," Glenn said. "And, to me, every game there's a lot of noise because they're so critical — as far as wins and losses. We want to try and accumulate as many wins as we can, and I don't care who that opponent is." Rodgers is either the only one with Week 1 circled on his calendar — or Glenn has the best poker face in the NFL. Either way, the fans will be the true winners of this exciting matchup. Jets' Aaron Glenn Turns Back Clock In Describing Top Leader
Jets' Aaron Glenn Turns Back Clock In Describing Top Leader originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. --Pop quiz! Where did Hall-of-Fame safety Ronnie Lott finish his career? If you guessed the New York Jets, congratulations! You are correct! Advertisement After a 10-year run with the San Francisco 49ers that resulted in four Super Bowl titles and a legacy as one of the best secondaries in the game, Lott continued playing for four more seasons. Two years with the Los Angeles Raiders were quickly followed by a final two with the Jets. During that time, the Hall-of-Fame safety played a single season with a young cornerback out of Texas A&M. Aaron Glenn. 30 years later, Glenn is the Jets' head coach. He's been tasked with building a culture that can turn the franchise's misfortune around. The first step in that process is finding the leaders on the roster. Advertisement During the final day of minicamp, Glenn made it clear that he would measure most of his current leaders against that of Lott when he first began playing. "Oh, that was easy," Glenn said. "I mean (Ronnie) Lott was a guy that, I mean, not being with him and seeing how he operated and then getting a chance to have a locker right next to him and seeing how he operated." Lott's leadership has always been legendary for the 49ers. While the organization will always be known for its offense during those dynastic days, Lott's legacy in the secondary helped them reach those Super Bowl wins. There are many quality leaders on this Jets team, which is why they have bought into Glenn's system before playing a game or putting pads on. Advertisement They may not measure up to Lott right now, but they are clearly building the kind of culture that Glenn saw from the Hall-of-Famer all those years ago. Aaron Glenn Credits Dan Campbell For Jets Offseason Schedule
Aaron Glenn Credits Dan Campbell For Jets Offseason Schedule originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is a product of the coaches he has worked with before. Advertisement There's nothing wrong with that. And … Glenn has worked with some truly spectacular leaders in the NFL. As a disciple of Super Bowl winners like Bill Parcells and Sean Payton, Glenn learned the importance of culture building and discipline. He thinks those traits can help the Jets during his tenure. His recent work with the Detroit Lions and head coach Dan Campbell, though, may assist Glenn the most in his first season. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the final day of minicamp, Glenn credited Campbell with allowing him to make Detroit's practice schedule when he was defensive coordinator there over the last four seasons. Advertisement It's something he has taken with him to New York. "I give a lot of credit to Coach Campbell in Detroit because he allowed me to actually act in the position of being head coach to be able to do the calendar for the offseason, plan training camp out, be able to make decisions that he was supposed to make," Glenn said. "He allowed me to make those decisions to get me ready to be in this position." Glenn has always been appreciative of the coaches he has worked with. They helped him get to the position of running his own team in the NFL. Now that he's in this position, the former cornerback-turned-scout-turned-coach is imparting his wisdom of practices on the Jets. Advertisement And fans will get their first taste of that when the Jets open training camp on July 22nd.
