DMK believes in allies, AIADMK in TN people: EPS

on Tuesday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was very strong in Tamil Nadu and the alliance would form govt in the state by winning 210 seats in the 2026 assembly election.
He praised the BJP govt at the Centre for allocating Rs63,000 crore to implement the metro rail project in Chennai when the AIADMK was governing the state. "We (AIADMK) could get many schemes with the help of the central govt in the future. Without the Centre's support, Tamil Nadu wouldn't have achieved all the growth it sees today."
On the second day of political campaigning, which was held at Vadavalli, EPS said the previous AIADMK govt had implemented various schemes, especially Smart City and Pillur-III drinking water, in Coimbatore.
"However, the DMK govt has not done anything for the district in the past four years. DMK leader Stalin always says their alliance is very strong. He believes in the alliance parties. But the AIADMK believes in the people of Tamil Nadu, because we have implemented various projects in the state.
"
EPS said the people of Coimbatore would vote for the NDA and help the alliance win all 10 seats in the district. "Stalin is daydreaming that his alliance will secure more than 200 seats. It won't happen in the 2026 assembly election. Stalin only thinks about his family members and has been working for the development of his family. How could he expect votes for his party?"
He accused the DMK govt of diverting the money from the hundi at the temples maintained by the HR&CE department for education.
"Devotees donate money for the development of temples. So, the govt should use it only for temple purposes. But the DMK govt has used it for constructing colleges. Such criminal acts should be prevented immediately."
While EPS slammed the left parties, he lauded state CPM secretary P Shanmugam for raising his voice against the DMK. "Communist parties have been on a decline in the state. CPI state secretary R Mutharasan doesn't have the guts to question the DMK for its anti-people governance. CPM's Shanmugam is the only person from the left parties who questioned the DMK for not doing anything for the welfare of people of Tamil Nadu.
I appreciate Shanmugam. But many communist leaders are working like slaves of the DMK."
Earlier in the day, EPS went for a morning walk at Race Course and interacted with walkers. Later, he met with various associations of entrepreneurs.

NDA V-P candidate Radhakrishnan files nomination in presence of PM Modi
NDA candidate C P Radhakrishnan on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the vice presidential election in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders. Modi, flanked by Radhakrishnan and senior NDA leaders, handed over four sets of nomination papers to Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody, who is the returning officer for the vice presidential election. The four sets of nomination papers have Modi, Singh, Shah and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh as lead proposers. A prospective vice-presidential candidate is required to get his nomination paper subscribed to by at least 20 electors as proposers and at least another 20 electors as seconders. The NDA has ensured representation of all its constituents as proposers and seconders in the four sets of nomination papers that were filed. The returning officer examined the nomination papers following which Radhakrishnan signed a register. The returning officer then handed over an acknowledgement slip of the nomination papers to the prime minister. Modi, Shah, senior ministers Pralhad Joshi, Dharmendra Pradhan and other NDA leaders, including TDP leader and Union Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde, LJSP (RV) leader Chirag Paswan escorted Radhakrishnan to the office of the returning officer in Parliament. Earlier, Radhakrishan paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and other national leaders at Prerna Sthal, which houses statues of iconic personalities, in Parliament complex. Radhakrishnan, whose election as vice president is a certainty, was accompanied by Union ministers and other leaders from the BJP-led alliance. The electoral college for the vice presidential elections comprises members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Nominated members of the Rajya Sabha are also eligible to cast their votes. The effective strength of the electoral college is 781 and the majority mark is 391. The ruling NDA enjoys the support of at least 422 members and non-INDIA bloc parties such as YSRCP have already announced support to Radhakrishnan. Described as a "Pachai Tamizhan" (true-blue Tamil) by well wishers, Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan (67) is a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who served as a two-term member of the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and later, went on to lead the party in Tamil Nadu. The NDA is projecting Radhakrishnan as an untainted leader with rich political and administrative experience for the vice-president's office and maintaining that this would also prove useful as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Radhakrishnan was the chairman of the All India Coir Board from 2016 to 2020, a period when coir exports witnessed a significant jump. BJP president J P Nadda described Radhakrishnan as a "statesman" who commands respect across party lines. He belongs to the influential Gounder caste, an Other Backward Classes (OBC) community in Tamil Nadu.

The N Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh is seeking sweeping powers to monitor social media posts, saying that it wants to prevent online abuse of women, especially those in politics. Home Minister V Anitha said a Bill will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly soon to pass a law to take action against offensive posts against women, misinformation, and false propaganda. The YSRCP has accused the government of trying to pass laws to muzzle it from criticising the TDP-led NDA government, in the guise of laws against offensive posts. 'A fact-finding committee is being set up to scrutinise social media posts which target women, especially women MLAs and political leaders. Based on the recommendations of the committee, we will table a Bill in the Assembly to bring an Act to not only curb offensive and derogatory social media posts but also take action against them,' Anitha said. Sources said that the government is also targeting alleged misinformation and 'false propaganda' by the YSRCP about the super-six schemes of the TDP-NDA government, as well as the capital city of Amaravati. Anitha, a former teacher who joined politics in 2013, has herself been a target of objectionable messages and trolling on social media. In March, a new women's safety mobile application, Suraksha, was launched by the Naidu government in response to complaints of abusive posts online, as well as for the general safety of women in public spaces. 'Criticism of political leaders and ministers is acceptable, but not obscene and vulgar language. These days, anyone with a political opinion is posting whatever they want, using the most vulgar language sometimes. It is often directed at women. Stalking and harassment of women is going on on social media. My government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women,' Anitha said, dismissing allegations that the government wants to muzzle Opposition criticism. 'YSRCP leaders deliberately spread false information like floods in Amaravati have sunk the capital, which has not happened. The YSRCP is also issuing negative statements about all the development activity that the government has taken up. It is not right,' she said. Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan has repeatedly spoken about the abuse of women online and has appealed to the CM to take steps. The YSRCP maintains that women have become unsafe in the state. The party's official spokesperson, A Shyamala, said that atrocities against women in Andhra Pradesh under the TDP-led coalition government have increased. 'What promises were made to women before the elections, and what is happening today? Women are left with no protection,' Shyamala said. 'During YS Jagan's tenure, women had the protection of the Disha App. What benefit has the coalition's so-called Suraksha app delivered? Women employees and even IPS officers are facing humiliation under this regime.'

Why Opposition is calling bills on PM, CM removal ‘squarely destructive': ‘Will change the basis of law, Constitution'
The BJP-led NDA government's proposed new laws on removal of the PM, CMs, and ministers at the Centre and states/UTs, based on mere allegations — not requiring conviction by a court — was described as 'squarely destructive' by the Opposition on Wednesday. Congress MP Manish Tewari raised questions against the bills introduced by Amit Shah in Parliament. (HT File) Soon after union home minister Amit Shah introduced the three bills in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manish Tewari got up and said: 'The Indian constitution says there should be rule of law, and the basis of that is that you are innocent until proven guilty. This hopes to change that." Calling the proposed code 'squarely destructive', he said of one of the bills that covers the PM, 'It makes an executive agency officer the boss of the Prime Minister.' Tewari, a lawyer and multi-term MP, said the government's bills would "changes the judicial jurisprudence of Article 21". The bills in question are: The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which covers the PM and states, plus Delhi NCT; The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, and The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill . These bills that propose that a sitting minister, chief minister or even the prime minister lose their position if they are arrested or detained for 30 days straight over an offence that carries a jail term of at least five years. The bills do, however, suggest that such a dismissed minister, CM or PM can be appointed again after their release from custody. The move to introduce the bills was opposed by AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, too, who is a lawyer as well.
