Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gets Switch 2 upgrade but there's a problem
A Switch 2 ruckus (Nintendo)
Nintendo has issued a warning for online play in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch 2, although there are some benefits to playing on the new console.
One of the best features of the Nintendo Switch 2 is the amount of original Switch games which have received upgrades, ranging from paid-for overhauls in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom to free improvements in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
However, as highlighted by Nintendo prior to the Switch 2's launch, not every game has had a smooth transition between consoles, with titles like Ring Fit Adventure, 1-2-Switch, and WarioWare: Move It! coming with some caveats when played on the new system.
While these titles have understandable issues connected to the lack of IR motion camera in the Switch 2 Joy-Con, one title which has encountered a bizarre problem is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – and it's all because of Mii Fighters.
As highlighted by X user OatmealDome, and noted on the Switch 2 compatibility list, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has an issue in online play if someone is using a Mii Fighter character during matches against a Switch 2 user and someone on the original Switch console.
'If someone is using Mii Fighter, the match may end immediately,' Nintendo states. 'Until this is fixed, please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible.'
Nintendo highlights there may be issues with displaying the Mii Fighter's thumbnail too. 'When creating or editing and saving a Mii Fighter, the thumbnail image showing the Mii Fighter may not be made correctly. This may be improved by saving it again.'

In regards to both these issues, the note concludes: 'This is planned to be fixed in the near future.'
While the issue is fairly minor, it's perhaps indicative of a wider problem with Miis on the Switch 2. In Mario Kart World, for example, there is no option to drive as your Miis like in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, despite them being featured on the system.
This issue aside however, there are some improvements in performance when playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch 2.
As highlighted by users on X, alternate costumes on the character select screen now loads instantly, whereas before it took a few seconds, with load times in general being much faster.
While Nintendo didn't list Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one of the games set to receive an upgrade on Switch 2, it seems most first party Switch games are improved on the console, with titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder also getting minor updates.
Miis are a playable character in Smash (Nintendo)

Police storm Rivals set to arrest actor accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend
Just one hour after he filmed a scene starring Danny Dyer, an extra on TV show Rivals was arrested. Nigel Adams was reportedly led away in cuffs by six police officers while he was still in costume. The 45-year-old had been shooting a polo scene, with a second series of the hit Disney+ drama starring Emily Atack and David Tennant recently confirmed. Avon and Somerset Police are believed to have been tipped off that the former bricklayer was working on the Rivals set this week; hence, two cop cars showed up. His co-stars are said to have watched on in shock, with a source telling The Sun that it was 'very dramatic'. 'Everyone was in their costumes, and Danny was filming this polo scene when, an hour later, police suddenly turned up to arrest one of the extras,' added the insider. 'It was shocking.' Adams is said to have spent two nights in a cell before appearing in Bristol magistrates' court on Friday, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The supporting actor, who has also appeared in Doctor Who and Casualty, is alleged to have assaulted her at a house in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, with cops called to the address on May 31 at 2am. In court, he entered no plea and was given conditional bail. He's due back in the city's crown court on July 7. In a statement, Rivals production company Happy Prince said: 'On the 4th June, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist. 'Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.' Corroborating their statement, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man from Locking, Somerset, had been arrested at Berkeley Castle on June 4, charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm. As well as the shows mentioned, Adams was also an extra in House of the Dragon and The Forsyte Saga. In 2022, he appeared in the movie Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which starred Ray Winstone. More Trending Those close to Adams have now said he's fearing the end of his career as an extra due to the arrest. 'He'll be gutted because it could end his TV career, something he really loves doing,' said a friend. They added: 'He's a bricklayer by trade, but he's been doing more and more TV work; he's been in loads of stuff. 'Whenever he's in the background of a show, he gets all his family and friends to watch it.' This is a breaking news story, more to follow soon… Check back shortly for further updates.
