After recent superstitious mob, Kedah Religious Dept to monitor graves of Sg Korok victims over fears of un-Islamic practices
JHEAIK director Datuk Dr Abd Ghani Zainuddin said that although no activities contrary to Islamic teachings had been detected at the cemetery so far, the department was taking precautionary measures.
'The Kubang Pasu district religious office has received a complaint regarding the possibility of suspicious activities at the cemetery,' he said.
'We have mobilised personnel to carry out monitoring, and so far, there has been no need to install barrier ropes to cordon off the site,' he said when contacted today.
He added that monitoring would continue from time to time, and appropriate action would be taken if any activities were found to be against Islamic teachings.
He also reminded the public not to engage in any superstitious practices that go against religious teachings.
Meanwhile, the secretary of the At-Taqwa Mosque, Mhd Shukri Hassan, said many visitors had been seen stopping by and reciting prayers at the graves.
'There were people stopped outside the mosque's fence and offered prayers for the deceased, as the graves of the six family members are located next to the village road,' he said when met today.
He added that the mosque committee would continue monitoring the situation.
'We have contacted the police and religious authorities. If we observe any suspicious activities, we will report them for further action,' he said.
In last Saturday's tragedy, husband and wife Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, 32, and Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31, along with their four children, died after the Proton Iswara car they were travelling in is believed to have skidded and plunged into Sungai Korok in Kampung Kemboja near here. — Bernama

'For the record, the main steps have been taken since my appointment as Zara's lawyer, including the successful exhumation of the grave, the completion of the post-mortem, and spending more than eight hours in the autopsy room at the client's request. 'We have also sought a heavier sentence for the perpetrator, namely the maximum 10 years, while our application for an inquest has been approved and is now underway,' he said. Pre-dawn crash on North-South Expressway near Kepala Batas traps, kills lorry attendant
KEPALA BATAS, Aug 21 — A lorry attendant was killed, while the driver was injured when their vehicle skidded and crashed into a road divider at KM116 of the North-South (PLUS) Expressway, southbound, near here early this morning. The deceased, Saipol Nizam Aman @ Ahmad, 41, was trapped in the cabin and died at the scene, while the driver, Mohd Azmi Mohd Yasa, 31, sustained injuries. Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director John Sagun Francis said a distress call was received at 5.42 am before a team was immediately dispatched to the scene. 'Upon arrival, a five-tonne lorry was found to have skidded into the road divider with two victims inside. The operations commander carried out a size-up, and rescue work to free the victim trapped in the vehicle was conducted using specialised tools. The operation was completed about an hour later,' he said in a statement today. He added that the victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health medical team and the body was sent to Kepala Batas Hospital for post-mortem. — Bernama

JPJ Kuala Lumpur seizes three stage buses for expired licences and permits
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — The Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ WPKL) impounded three stage buses at tourist hotspots in the city centre last Sunday. JPJ WPKL director Hamedi Adam said the buses were found to have committed several serious offences, including operating with expired motor vehicle licences (LKM) dating back to April and June 2025, as well as Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) certificates that had lapsed since May and June last year. 'All three buses were driven by locals and enforcement action has been taken, with summonses issued to the drivers and vehicle owners in accordance with the provisions of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations,' he said in a statement today. Hamedi stressed that JPJ views any form of non-compliance seriously, particularly when it involves public transport vehicles carrying tourists and city residents. 'This enforcement is part of JPJ's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of road users and maintaining the integrity of the public transport system,' he said.
