Retired HK Star Petrina Fung Bo Bo Makes Rare Appearance At klpac
While Hong Kong stars aren't strangers to Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur, it's still surprising to see some stars make a rare public appearance in the city. Recently, retired Hong Kong actress Petrina Fung Bo Bo (冯宝宝) made her first public appearance in years at Sentul.
Over the weekend, the former child star appeared at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) to attend the Malaysian performance of the Cantonese black comedy stage play 'Left Unsaid'. The stage play stars HK actors Kenny Wong (黄德斌) and Cecilia Yip (叶童), produced by Joseph Chan and directed by Mathias Woo. Petrina reportedly attended the performance in support of her long-time friends Joseph and Mathias.
In photos shared online, the retired actress looked radiant in a pale yellow and black ensemble with a matching headpiece. Despite turning 71 this year, Petrina appeared youthful, with smooth and fair skin. Besides meeting up with Joseph and Mathias, the veteran star also took photos with the cast of the stage play. After the show, she praised the production 'Left Unsaid', saying she thoroughly enjoyed the cast's performance.
If you wonder why Petrina appeared in KL out of all places, it's because the retired star currently lives in Penang. She has been living here for years, since stepping away from showbiz. She once said living in the state is better suited to her state of mind as she ages. However, the star reportedly travelled several hours by car to KL to support the play and reconnect with old friends.
Petrina also has other ties to Malaysia, having been born in British North Borneo (now known as Sandakan) in 1954. She was also married to a Malaysian architect from 1997 to 2012. She also lived in Kuala Lumpur for some time, travelling between HK and Malaysia for her acting career. The actress was also once active in activism, speaking at local talks and events to advocate for mental health awareness.
As it's been a while since Petrina was at a showbiz-related event, it's nice to see how well-respected she still is amongst her peers. Her appearance at klpac is a reminder of her enduring legacy in the HK entertainment industry.

Malaysia's iconic superhero Keluang Man finally soars to the silver screen

Released on May 29, the big-screen adaptation breathes new life into a local legend, blending action, humour and heartfelt storytelling in true Malaysian style. Directed by Anwari Ashraf, the man behind Polis Evo and Project: High Council , Keluang Man is not just another superhero flick. It's a tribute to Malaysian pop culture, a reinvention of an iconic character from the 1990s, and the start of the Astro Shaw Cinematic Universe (ASCU). This film tells the story of Borhan, played by Nas Muammar Zar, better known as Nas-T, a psychiatric patient in Kluang who lives a double life as the mysterious vigilante Keluang Man. Haunted by a voice in his head which is voiced by radio icon Halim Othman, Borhan finds himself pulled between delusions, memories and justice, especially when confronted with his estranged brother Shamsir, played by Datuk Remy Ishak. The story unfolds with a quirky cast of characters including Shweta Sekhon as Dr Malini, Borhan's psychiatrist, and Anwaar Beg Moghal as Inspector Sahab, her relentless brother who is hot on Keluang Man's trail. Datuk Rosyam Nor rounds out the cast as Ahmad, Borhan's aged but wise mentor. Speaking at the movie's gala premiere, lead actor Nas-T admitted that stepping into Borhan's complex world was both a challenge and a triumph. 'It's all thanks to director Anwari Ashraf, who wrote and directed it, and I entrusted everything to him. 'He moulded my character, and I followed his direction faithfully,' he said. In a particularly emotional twist, beloved radio host Halim returns not in body, but in voice. Lending his 1990s-era persona to a voice inside Borhan's head, Halim shared how surreal the experience was. 'Anwari told me about a superhero film with a character inspired by me, tied to the golden days of Roda Impian . 'I was touched by the director's imagination in wanting to capture Malaysia's memories from around 1998 to 2000,' Halim said. For Halim in particular, Keluang Man is considered a generational bridge that would bring people together. Besides a celebration that featured balloons and cakes, Farhana Zahra, who runs a beauty and dietary supplement business, also gave her daughter extravagant gifts. Among them were an Apple computer, a Rolex watch, and a Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle. 'Forgive mama, this is all I could afford to give you. I only spent RM1 million for this birthday,' she posted in a June 3 TikTok video, which has since gone viral with over 2.2 million views. She also wished that her daughter's dream of becoming a businesswoman would come true. The video opens with her, her husband and three daughters all dressed in matching black outfits descending a grand staircase.
