Arnold secures first win with Iraq
While Wednesday morning's success wasn't enough for Iraq to secure FIFA World Cup qualification, Arnold's men will have another chance to book a berth in next year's tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada when they compete in the fourth round of AFC qualifiers in October.
'I'm proud of the team,' Arnold said after the win, which came less than a week after Iraq suffered a 2-0 home loss to South Korea in his first game in charge of the Lions of Mesopotamia.
'It was a crazy week, but it ended well. We rested four players to avoid suspension and will now focus on the (fourth round).
'My message to Iraqi fans – believe in us, we will reach the 2026 World Cup.'
The fourth round of qualifiers features the nations that finished third and fourth in the three third-round groups.
Joining Iraq will be the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Indonesia.
The six nations will be split into two groups of three, with the top team from each group to advance to the World Cup.
The teams that finished second in each group will play each other for the AFC's spot in the six-nation inter-confederation playoffs, from which two teams will secure World Cup qualification.

Davidson returns to Victory with silver on his mind
Socceroos defender Jason Davidson has set his sights on leading Melbourne Victory to more silverware after returning to the A-League Men club on a two-year deal. Davidson previously played for the Victory during the 2021/22 season, with his most memorable contribution being the stunning free kick that helped lift the club to Australia Cup glory in February, 2022. The 34-year-old signed with Belgian First Division side K.A.S. Eupen ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, before joining Panserraikos FC in the Greek Super League. Victory haven't won any silverware since Davidson's Australia Cup heroics, and the 23-cap Socceroo wants that to change. "Returning to Victory after three years in Europe is incredibly exciting," Davidson said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to working with a quality team and the wonderful new coaching staff at the club, with the aim of securing points and ultimately silverware for Melbourne Victory. "My time overseas has only made me more hungry for success. I intend to bring my best to the team, alongside the rest of the playing group, and help drive success this season." Davidson earned a surprise recall to the Socceroos squad earlier this year, and looms as a smokey for the 2026 World Cup. The fullback was part of the Australian outfit that won the Asian Cup in 2015. Victory coach Arthur Diles said he was thrilled to have Davidson joining the squad. "Jason has proven his ability to be a game changer in both the A-League and on the international stage," Diles said.
