Man Utd in huge double injury boost as Amad Diallo returns to training ahead of season-defining Athletic Bilbao clash

The Sun30-04-2025

AMAD DIALLO has given Manchester United a huge injury boost ahead of their crunch Europa League tie on Thursday.
Ruben Amorim 's side are preparing to face Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
2
Diallo has been out of action for the Red Devils since suffering an ankle injury in early February.
But he returned to the Carrington training pitch on Wednesday as the squad prepares to jet to Bilbao.
Diallo's status for tomorrow's match has not yet been confirmed.
He could however feature this weekend as United take on Brentford.
And the 22-year-old - who has netted nine goals and contributed eight assists this season - should be fit for next week's second leg at Old Trafford.
Matthijs De Ligt also took part in the open training session after he suffered a muscle injury last month.

Ange to Scotland clamour triggers oddsmakers as Celtic hero's theory about international management rings loud

The 59-year-old is a prized free agent as bookies react to what is coming next after leaving Spurs Oddsmakers have made managing the Scotland national team the third most likely destination for Ange Postecoglou after leaving Tottenham. Spurs fans, punters and pundits alike let out a collective gasp after the 59-year-old won the Europa League but paid with his job despite ending their 18-year wait for silverware. ‌ But many others obsessed with the beautiful game are still mad for Ange and his exit came hours before Steve Clarke enraged a nation with the under-fire Scotland boss taking pelters for a horror 3-1 defeat to Iceland at Hampden. ‌ That led to punters imagining Ange donning a 'See you, Jimmy' bunnet in the near future as an option to lead a national team in the midst of a confidence crisis despite boasting the best playing pool in a generation. And AceOdds reckon Scotland is a likely option for a manager who thrilled Celtic fans during his trophy-laden two years in Glasgow. AEK Athens 3/1 Australia 5/1 Scotland 6/1 ‌ Leicester 8/1 Ipswich, Celtic 10/1 Any Saudi Pro League Club 12/1 ‌ Man United 16/1 Leeds 25/1 ‌ West Ham 28/1 Rangers 33/1 England 50/1 ‌ And while Postecoglou has been cautious about a return to international management, his answer to the differences experienced by himself at Australia to a foreign national team boss in the wake of Thomas Tuchel's appointment rings loud. He said: "It's not like sometimes with the foreigners that they can do the job and it's not going great, they can go back and live where they live and they don't have to deal with it on a day-to-day basis. "There is a greater weight of responsibility when it is your own national team and I really believe that, in particular the England national team. "It is something that the people who make these appointments are wary of, it's not just about coaching and it's how you deal with all these other things that are attached to the England national team job. Sometimes the foreign coaches don't have to deal with it as much as an English manager would."

Ange Postecoglou next club odds following Tottenham sacking

Daniel Levy made the decision to relieve the Australian of his duties just 16 days after he guided the North London club to a rare trophy win with Europa League glory in Bilbao. The 59-year-old lasted just two years at Spurs after the Premier League club headhunted him after a successful spell in Glasgow with Celtic. Now, with Postecoglou out of work and surely soon to be a man in demand, AceOdds have provided a market on where his next permanent job could lie. Read more: He's favoured to return to Greece, with AEK Athens the 3/1 favourites to be his next destination. However, with international experience already, he is 5/1 to make the return to Australia, meanwhile, he is available at 6s for the Scotland gig with Steve Clarke currently under pressure. Ange Postecoglou next permanent job odds: AEK Athens 3/1 Australia 5/1 Scotland 6/1 Leicester 8/1 Ipswich, Celtic 10/1 Any Saudi Pro League Club 12/1 Man United 16/1 Leeds 25/1 West Ham 28/1 Rangers 33/1 England 50/1

Man Utd transfer on brink of collapse after hint on future and strict demands

Manchester United have been keen to add a new striker to their squad this summer but their chances of recruiting a new forward have been hit with a major blow over recent days Rasmus Hojlund looks set to stay at Manchester United with clubs struggling to meet the Red Devils' demands. The Danish forward was linked with a move away from Old Trafford after an awful season. Hojlund scored just four Premier League goals for United last term, leading to suggestions that the former Atalanta striker could return to Italy. Inter Milan were among the sides linked with him, while Juventus and Napoli were also credited with interest. ‌ But it appears that a move to Serie A is no longer an option according to reports. According to suggestions in Italy, United's demands of a permanent Deal have made a move very difficult. ‌ It is reported that United want to receive around £40m for the 22-year-old, a deal that the Italian sides would struggle to put together. They would only be able to sign him on loan as it stands. Hojlund has recently spoken out on his future at Old Trafford and confirmed that he was looking to stay with the club. He said: 'I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway. "I know I can't get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030. I expect to play there, so I'm just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good pre-season." In all, Hojlund has made 95 appearances for United since his £72m move from Atalanta. In that time, he has scored just 26 goals. Former Red Devils star Phil Jones has suggested that a move away from the club might be best for his career. He said: "It's a difficult one, I feel really sorry for him (Hojlund). It's obviously been a difficult season for him, but I always find it's difficult for a No. 9 in a difficult season. ‌ "He's probably not getting the chances, you know, the seven, eight chances a game. He's feeding off one or two that might come into him in the 70th minute, and he's got to produce. "It hasn't quite happened for him yet. It's been difficult for him, but I think if he were to move on, he would probably benefit from that. A bit like Marcus (Rashford), it's a fresh start for him. "It's a difficult one for Rasmus Hojlund. What I would say is, I think that Man United will be looking for another No. 9. Maybe that would take a bit of the pressure off him as well if he can manage his minutes between the two No. 9s."
