‘The Sports Gossip Show' answers listeners' burning questions
It's been a crazy few weeks in the SGS cinematic universe. First, we officially joined the great team here at The Athletic. Then, we put out an episode explaining how Jordon Hudson, Bill Belichick's girlfriend, called us out of the blue. Then, Taylor Swift announced her new album on her football-playing boyfriend's podcast, so we had to do an emergency episode about it (big shoutout to Travis and Jason Kelce on their burgeoning media empire).

Some of you want — understandably — some answers about all of this. So we're providing a few here in a mailbag.
Please write to us with any questions, as we'll be doing mailbags from time to time. You can reach us at info@sportsgossipshow.com or send us a DM on Instagram @sportsgossip.
You can also follow us on Instagram and TikTok and subscribe to the show on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts (Apple, Spotify).
Now, on to your questions …
What kind of flower arrangement do you think Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce might have at their potential wedding?
(For those who don't know, we have a running segment on the show where we talk about how all athlete weddings look the same. Most of the flowers are white and very tightly packed together, which we have decided to call 'compressed flowers,' even though florists tell us that isn't a real term.)
Hill: Oh, man. That's such a tough question. I feel like Taylor won't do compressed flowers. If I had to guess, the flowers will be over the top — but not shoved together. Maybe an ethereal vibe? I feel like Taylor would have a wedding with a fairy-tale theme.
Wilder: I could see them doing some elaborate centerpieces, but Taylor surprises us so often that I can't even begin to imagine what the wedding itself will be like. I'm thinking she could lean into wildflowers for some reason? It would make a lot of sense if it's an August wedding, given her song 'August,' and if they don't get married on the 13th, well … it will mean that my whole life has been a lie.
Thoughts on Violet (Vi), the new mascot of the Golden State Valkyries?
Wilder: I love the Golden State Valkyries' new mascot, Violet. She is a giant purple bird wearing a basketball uniform and glasses. As someone with deteriorating eyesight who recently realized that she needs to wear glasses to play recreational sports, I am thrilled to see more representation of glasses wearers in the mascot community. It does raise the question: Why don't more mascots wear glasses?

I also appreciate that Violet's feathers appear to be quite feathery. Most of the bird mascots I can think of are made mostly of fabric or felt, and I appreciate some real texture.
However, it does seem like a tall task to be a new WNBA mascot when the New York Liberty's mascot, Ellie the Elephant, has become such a sensation. However, I'm eager to see if Violet can make her mark on the league. The Valkyries are seventh in the WNBA standings, which is good for an expansion team, so maybe Violet will be the bump they need to climb even higher.
I know Madeline is particularly fond of Ellie (I mean, who isn't), so I'm interested to hear how she feels about Violet.
Hill: Oh, as you know, I am Ellie's No. 1 fan, but that doesn't mean we can't have room for more fun mascots! As a glasses wearer, I am obsessed with Violet. She reminds me of a character on Sesame Street in the best way.
I will be curious to see whether Violet can generate the level of excitement at games that Ellie does at Liberty games.
What has been your favorite episode to film so far?
Wilder: Choosing a favorite episode would be like choosing a favorite Boston sports team — I love them all equally but differently (except for the Bruins; sorry, don't come for me, I only have so much bandwidth as a sports fan).
However, I do think the episode after we went to the Miss Maine pageant was special. We were still producing the show ourselves as an independent podcast, so we put our resources into attending an event we thought was important to cover. We went to the pageant for two days, set up microphones in a hotel conference room, recorded it, edited it until close to midnight and produced an episode that made us really proud. That was very rewarding and fun.
Hill: I have to agree. We felt like our reporting on Jordon Hudson would not be complete without seeing her in the pageant. We started covering the story in October and have always said it was a story about power. We knew we needed to see her compete to provide a holistic analysis of the entire situation. It was also wild to see Belichick sitting front row at the Miss Maine pageant. We didn't have that on our bingo cards when we started the show.
We also knew it was a risk attending the event. Would we get kicked out? Would people listen to the episode? Would people care at all? Sure enough, people did care, and I'm proud of that episode.
Anything about Aaron Rodgers' Brittani with an i?
Wilder: We don't have any updates about Brittani (the mystery woman to whom Aaron Rodgers says he is married). However, we are desperate for any information. If you have any, please email us at info@sportsgossipshow.com. Thank you.
What pop superstar will announce their next album on (former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski's) podcast?
Hill: I would love for JoJo to announce another album on his podcast. She grew up in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which feels very on-brand.

Wilder: I was thinking, JoJo, too! But for some reason, I'm going with Jesse McCartney. My fellow millennials out there — remember Beautiful Soul? What a banger.
If Taylor Swift wrote a song about Jordon Hudson, what would it be called?
Wilder: I think the only option is 'President of Your Universe.' If you don't know why, please refer to 'the Hudson episode.' Can you think of something else, Madeline?
Hill: Oh, that's definitely the only option.
I want to know how you two met!
Wilder: We shared our internet origin story on a previous mailbag episode — listen to it here! However, the TL;DR is that the universe brought us together because it knew that someday Taylor Swift would announce her new album on a football player's podcast, and the two of us would need to do an emergency podcast about said podcast. Call it divine podcast intervention.
Madeline Hill and Charlotte Wilder have partnered with The Athletic and are taking their game to the next level. You can find 'The Sports Gossip Show' every Tuesday and Thursday on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts.

Sixers forward Paul George gives love to retiring star guard John Wall
The NBA world saw 5-time All-Star John Wall announce his retirement. The former star of the Washington Wizards played 11 years in the league--missing a season due to injury and another because he was too productive for the Houston Rockets in 2022--and averaged 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in his career. Wall finished seventh in MVP voting in 2017 with the Wizards and played with Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George when the two of them were with the Los Angeles Clippers. When Wall was right, he was one of the best players in the league and was a player that elevated his teammates. George gave love to Wall via his podcast on Twitter as he acknowledged his former NBA draft and teammate with the Clippers. George will be looking to help the Sixers bounce back in the 2025-26 season. He played only 41 games in his first season in Philadelphia and will need to be healthy to help the Sixers get over the hump in the Eastern Conference. Final preseason SEC Power Rankings
The college football season is just days away. Texas begins its second season in the SEC and the expectations are sky high for the Longhorns. Texas and Georgia again look to be the cream of the crop in the best conference in the sport. But what about the rest of the conference? In addition to UT and UGA, Tennessee also made the college football playoffs last season. Will the Vols take a step back after losing QB Nico Iamaleava to the transfer portal? Alabama and Ole Miss came close to making the playoff. Both could be better in 2025. The Sooners look improved with new QB John Mateer under center. The Aggies hope to be better. As does LSU, who could either compete for the title or fall flat again down the stretch. So much will depend on the quarterbacks. Many return, like Florida's DJ Lagway and Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia. Some teams feature new QBs, like Texas and Georgia. Here are the final 2025 preseason SEC Power Rankings: 16. Mississippi State Bulldogs The Bulldogs were the last place team in the SEC last season and it shouldn't change in 2025. Head coach Jeff Lebby seems in over his head. In 2024, Mississippi State finished the SEC season 0-8. The Bulldogs also got blown out by Toledo, 41-17. QB Blake Shapen is back after missing much of last season to injury. 15. Kentucky Wildcats Head coach Mark Stoops and the Wildcats put a scare in some teams last season, but in the end finished an abysmal 1-7 in the league. Stoops has brought in former Aggies QB Zach Calzada through the transfer portal, but there aren't many winnable conference games for the 'Cats. 14. Arkansas Razorbacks The Hogs finished with a winning record last season, but finished 3-5 in the SEC. Quarterback Taylen Green is back and Arkansas should be around a .500 team again. But the schedule is tough with Texas, A&M and Ole Miss on the schedule. Plus the Razorbacks play Notre Dame out of conference. 13. Vanderbilt Commodores Vandy was a surprise last season behind QB Diego Pavia. The Commodores finished the season with a winning record and a huge upset of Alabama. Vanderbilt gave Texas a huge scare in Nashville as well. But there won't be a surprise this season and with all of the good vibes, Vandy still finished 3-5 in the SEC. 12. Auburn Tigers Head coach Huge Freeze has had a rocky offseason and now is pinning Auburn's hopes on former Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold. Arnold was abject last season in Norman, but maybe a change of scenery will help. The defense should be solid thanks to future first rounders EDGE Keldric Faulk and DB Jay Crawford. 11. Tennessee Volunteers Look for the Vols to take a step back in 2025. The messy departure of QB Nico Iamaleava could reverberate throughout the season. Former Appalachian State quarterback Joey Aguilar should be solid for coach Josh Heupel. But he doesn't have the elite skills required to win in the SEC. 10. Texas A&M Aggies It is year two of the Mike Elko era Aggieland. A&M was decent last season, but struggled against the upper tier of the conference. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed should be improved. But the Aggies have a tough schedule that culminates in Austin. 9. Oklahoma Sooners OU should be better this season. Just the addition of former Washington State QB John Mateer through the transfer portal should help the offense. OU had a solid defense last season and that should stay the same. But if the Sooners can't keep up again on offense it will be another long season. 8. Missouri Tigers The Tigers have been a consistently good team under coach Eliah Drinkwitz. Mizzou leans into the transfer portal. Starting QB Beau Pribula comes from Penn State. Missouri will jump up and get a big upset at some point this season. Alabama, A&M and South Carolina all must travel to Columbia. 7. Florida Gators Florida's 2024 season was headed for disaster. But behind dynamic QB DJ Lagway, the Gators scored late season upsets of LSU and Ole Miss. UF coach Billy Napier will hope Lagway can push the Gators over the line a few more times this season. Florida will open its SEC season hosting Texas. 6. LSU Tigers LSU has enough talent to win the SEC, Brian Kelly's teams tend to disappoint. QB Garrett Nussmeier is purported to be a Heisman candidate. The Tigers conference schedule is tough. Just like last season, LSU will be tested in Week 1 with a trip to Clemson that could set the trajectory of the season. 5. Ole Miss Rebels Lane Kiffin seems to be building something in Oxford. Last year, Ole Miss just missed the college football playoffs. Ole Miss knocked off Georgia and South Carolina last season. But losses to LSU and Florida were killers. Kiffin hit the portal to reload at receiver and beef up the defense. 4. South Carolina Gamecocks A pleasant surprise last season, the Gamecocks look to build on 2024. QB LaNorris Sellers is a unique talent and should help the Gamecocks navigate a tricky schedule that includes home games against Alabama and Clemson, with road games at Texas A&M and LSU. 3. Alabama Crimson Tide The Tide's three SEC losses last season were all shocking in their own way. Obviously, no one expected 'Bama to lose to Vanderbilt or Oklahoma. The OU loss cost Alabama a college football playoff berth. Ty Simpson will be the Crimson Tide's starting QB. The junior has waited three seasons for his turn. 2. Georgia Bulldogs It is tight between Georgia and Texas at the top of the SEC. Last year, Georgia beat Texas twice. It seems the Longhorns have more talent this season, but the Horns must travel to Athens to face the Bulldogs this year. So much of Georgia's season depends on QB Gunner Stockton. 1. Texas Longhorns The Longhorns look loaded. The defense could be the best in the country with three All-Americans, one on each position group. Arch Manning takes over a QB. What he might lack in experience he should make up for in arm strength and speed. Could coach Steve Sarkisian finally win a national title?
