Nobel Peace Prize for Malaysia's Anwar? Not if Trump gets his way

Supporters of
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are calling for him to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, days after he brokered a ceasefire between
Thailand and
Cambodia , for which US President Donald Trump has also taken the lion's share of credit.

Anwar hosted the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand for truce talks in Kuala Lumpur on Monday alongside observers from the United States and China . The two Southeast Asian neighbours agreed to a ceasefire in their fight over competing border claims.
But the diplomatic success has sparked a battle for credit. The White House issued a statement hailing
Trump 's 'decisive leadership' in ending hostilities, with the US president later calling himself the 'president of peace' and downplaying Malaysia's role.
In response, former lawmaker Yusmadi Yusoff, who also penned a memoir on Anwar, launched a petition on Thursday to recognise the Malaysian leader's 'dialogical leadership' that he said was unique and lacking among global leaders.
'As a Muslim democrat and global statesman, Anwar is an unwavering proponent of justice through dialogue, navigating domestic complexity and international diplomacy with moral clarity and restraint,' Yusmadi said.

Mexico vows ‘no invasion' over Trump threat to target cartels

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum insisted on Friday that there would be 'no invasion of Mexico' following reports that US President Donald Trump had ordered the United States military to target Latin American drug cartels. 'There will be no invasion of Mexico,' Sheinbaum declared after The New York Times reported that Trump had secretly signed a directive ordering military force against cartels that his administration has declared terrorist organisations. 'We were informed that this executive order was coming and that it had nothing to do with the participation of any military personnel or any institution in our territory,' Sheinbaum told her regular morning conference. Agence France-Presse contacted the Pentagon to confirm the order but has not yet received a response. The Times said Trump's directive provided an official basis for military operations at sea or on foreign soil against the cartels. Malaysia orders Zara's body to be exhumed as questions mount over student's death

Malaysia 's attorney general late on Friday ordered police to exhume the remains of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir as hundreds gathered across three cities in Sabah demanding justice. Zara died on July 17 after she was found outside a dormitory at her Islamic school in Sabah's Papar district. Police initially said she was believed to have fallen from the third floor of the building. But her family have raised doubts over the cause of death, alleging police failed to thoroughly collect evidence, carry out a postmortem and treat her death as potentially suspicious. Public unease with the police probe has mounted since. A voice recording of Zara saying that she was scared for her safety was released on Thursday, fuelling speculation that her death was the result of foul play. Hundreds of people gathered in Sabah's east coast cities of Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Tawau on Friday evening chanting 'justice for Zara' and that her death was a result of murder. Social media messages show that more protests are planned across the state over the weekend including one in the state capital Kota Kinabalu on Sunday. On Friday, the attorney general's chamber said Zara's remains should be exhumed for a postmortem. 'This step is to ensure that the police obtains additional information and evidence needed to complete the investigation into Zara Qairina's death,' the attorney general's chamber said.
