Restaurant chain eyes city site
HIGH POINT — A fast-food restaurant chain called Culver's has submitted development plans for a proposed High Point location.
An engineering firm submitted a site plan last week for ground-up construction of a 4,110-square-foot building with a drive-thru at 3904 Sedgebrook St.
The 1.16-acre parcel is the last undeveloped lot in the Regency Center retail development at N.C. 68 and Regency Drive that includes Steak Street and several other restaurants.
The site is at the end of a street stub next to a Shell gas station and convenience store and directly across from Wingate by Wyndham hotel.
Headquartered in Sauk City, Wisconsin, Culver's has more than 1,000 franchise-owned locations in 26 states, according to its website.
It has a presence in the Triad, with restaurants in Kernersville, Winston-Salem and Burlington, but none in High Point.
Its website touts menu offerings such as its 'ButterBurger' hamburger selections, as well as its cheese curds and frozen custard.
The site of its proposed High Point location is owned by a commercial real estate firm based in Chattanooga, Tennessee called Hutton.
The landowner in 2022 proposed to develop the site with a car wash, but the project did not go forward.
It's now offering the property for sale or for a ground lease or build-to-suit arrangement. It's zoned general business, which can accommodate most restaurant and other retail uses.
The site plan submittal for the restaurant is under review by the city.

Culver's is refreshing its chicken sandwich lineup, and fans can soon try it for free. The burger chain plans to give away more than 100,000 free chicken sandwiches Monday, June 16, as its revamped sandwich lineup rolls out at restaurants nationwide, Culver's said in a news release. The first 100 customers who order at the chain's 1,000-plus restaurants will get one on the house, and no purchase is required. Fans can pick from three options: Crispy chicken sandwichSpicy crispy chicken sandwichGrilled chicken sandwich The new sandwiches went through 'extensive testing' and feature a more flavorful chicken filet, crunchier pickles and a new toasted brioche bun, according to product description. They'll join the restaurant's permanent menu, appearing alongside the original chicken tenders and other favorites. 'Every little detail is improved — from the juiciness of the chicken to the soft, new brioche bun it sits on,' Kasey McDonald, head of culinary at Culver's, said in the release. 'We took our time to make sure we got these perfect.' The Wisconsin burger chain is known for its butterburgers and fried cheese curds but said it hopes to satiate customer's growing appetite for chicken. It's the latest restaurant to bolster its chicken offerings in recent months, following similar moves by rivals McDonald's and Wendy's. McCrispy Strips rolled out at the Golden Arches in early May, and Wendy's made good on its promise of more chicken options with the launch of its Cajun crunch chicken sandwich. Culver's chicken sandwich giveaway is valid for one-day only on dine-in, to-go or drive-thru orders, the restaurant said. Additional information wasn't immediately available. A beloved restaurant chain born in the heart of the Midwest is making a major move across the American landscape. Culver's, a name synonymous with roadside burgers and creamy frozen custard, has unveiled a growth strategy that will introduce its unique menu to scores of new customers over the next two years, cementing its status as a national favorite. The chain is poised to sustain its remarkable pace of opening between 50 and 60 new locations annually, a plan that extends through the end of 2026. If you live in one of the following 12 states, you're in luck. The next wave of Culver's openings will focus on these regions, giving more people a chance to experience the hype firsthand: Arizona Arkansas Florida Georgia Illinois Kansas Michigan Ohio South Carolina Tennessee Texas Wisconsin So, what drives the devotion? It starts with the chain's headliner: the ButterBurger. The name is a nod to the kitchen's signature move of lightly buttering the crown of the toasted bun, creating a perfect first bite. Each burger is made with fresh, never-frozen beef that is pressed and seared to as famous is the frozen custard. It's a richer, denser, and creamier alternative to traditional ice cream, prepared in small batches at each restaurant throughout the day. A beloved tradition for regulars is checking the flavor of the day, a rotating creation that might be anything from Georgia Peach to Devil's Food Cake. The menu is also rounded out with comfort-food classics, including authentic Wisconsin cheese curds, crispy chicken sandwiches, and hand-battered North Atlantic cod. The brand's journey began in 1984 with a single family restaurant in Sauk City, Wisconsin. In the decades since, Culver's has grown into a fast-casual giant with over 1,000 locations spread across 26 states. This explosive growth is built on a reputation for quality ingredients and friendly service, turning first-time visitors into loyal followers. This continued expansion is a clear sign of the brand's incredible popularity. For countless communities across the country, the wait for their very own neighborhood Culver's is nearly over.
