Restaurant chain eyes city site

HIGH POINT — A fast-food restaurant chain called Culver's has submitted development plans for a proposed High Point location. An engineering firm submitted a site plan last week for ground-up construction of a 4,110-square-foot building with a drive-thru at 3904 Sedgebrook St. The 1.16-acre parcel is the last undeveloped lot in the Regency Center retail development at N.C. 68 and Regency Drive that includes Steak Street and several other restaurants. The site is at the end of a street stub next to a Shell gas station and convenience store and directly across from Wingate by Wyndham hotel. Headquartered in Sauk City, Wisconsin, Culver's has more than 1,000 franchise-owned locations in 26 states, according to its website. It has a presence in the Triad, with restaurants in Kernersville, Winston-Salem and Burlington, but none in High Point. Its website touts menu offerings such as its 'ButterBurger' hamburger selections, as well as its cheese curds and frozen custard. The site of its proposed High Point location is owned by a commercial real estate firm based in Chattanooga, Tennessee called Hutton. The landowner in 2022 proposed to develop the site with a car wash, but the project did not go forward. It's now offering the property for sale or for a ground lease or build-to-suit arrangement. It's zoned general business, which can accommodate most restaurant and other retail uses. The site plan submittal for the restaurant is under review by the city.
