Collector asks quarry, crusher units to apply for transit pass to transport M-sand, gravel
As per the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Illegal Mining Transportation and Storage of Minerals and Mineral Dealers Rules, 2011, quarry and crusher units required appropriate permission from the district administration for storing M-sand and gravel and also for selling them in market.
Further, as the transit pass system for transporting M-sand and gravel comes into effect from June 14, quarry and crusher units have been instructed to furnish the required details on www.mimas.tn.gov.in .
Following the registration, a free transit pass would be issued which could be used for transporting M-sand and gravel materials.
For further details, applicants can contact the Department of Geology and Mining office on the Collectorate premises.

Handloom societies get chance to sell products at PGRS
Ongole: Prakasam district joint collector R Gopala Krishna stressed that supporting handloom products is everyone's responsibility. He participated as the chief guest in the National Handloom Day celebrations at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Speaking at the event attended by handloom workers, he highlighted the crucial role of handloom products in the freedom movement. He emphasised the collective responsibility to preserve the handloom sector, which has withstood the test of time. He announced government initiatives to support the historically significant handloom industry through electricity subsidies, GST concessions, and financial assistance to weaver families. He assured prompt action to clear pending dues from APCOB to handloom societies. The JC announced that the administration will provide opportunities for societies to sell handloom products during Monday grievance sessions at the Collector's office. He appealed to the public to support handloom products as another freedom movement. District Lead Bank Manager Ramesh announced expedited approval of Mudra loans for weavers. He announced that under the Mudra scheme, 217 applications were received in 2024-25, with 27 beneficiaries sanctioned loans worth Rs 26 lakh. Twenty individual work sheds valued at Rs 1.2 lakh each were approved under the Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme. Assistant Director of Handlooms Raghunandan revealed that 1,762 handloom workers over 50 years receive a monthly NTR pension of Rs 4,000 in the district. The joint collector and the officials honoured handloom workers during the ceremony, which was preceded by a rally from Prakasam Bhavan to the Ambedkar statue.

National Handlooms Day celebrated in southern districts
District Collector R. Sukumar inaugurated the special discount sale of handloom products at the Collectorate on Thursday in view of the 11th National Handlooms Day. After inaugurating the sale, he said the 'Be Indian, Buy Indian' movement was launched on August 7, 1905, by Mahatma Gandhi in Kolkata to encourage the Indians to buy handloom products while shunning the imported clothes during the colonial rule. The clarion call had tremendous positive impact in the freedom struggle and fuelled the Swadeshi movement. Hence, this day was declared as National Handlooms Day in 2015 to enourage the sale of handloom products as women constitute more than 70% of the workforce in this 5,000-year-old industry. 'The products being exhibited here by the handloom weavers are sold with 20% discount and hence the government employees and the visitors to the Collectorate should buy the handloom products to help the weavers,' he said. The Collector, after honouring three 75-year-old weavers, handed over ₹6 lakh loan with interest subsidy to seven weavers, orders for construction of houses to 11 weavers, and looms to five weavers. Assistant Director of Handlooms, Tirunelveli, Arockiyaraj, and Handloom Officer Shenbagaraj were present. In Kanniyakumari district, Collector R. Alagumeena handed over loan of ₹20 lakh to 40 weavers. She exhorted the weavers to do 'ari' work, embroidery, and other handworks to make their products more attractive. 'We are imparting training in these arts. Hence, you should make use of it to reach more customers,' Ms. Alagumeena added.

Officials told to expedite land acquisition
Eluru: District collector K Vetriselvi has directed the officials to expedite land acquisition for Polavaram Project Relief & Rehabilitation and national highways. She reviewed with the officials through video conference on Polavaram R&R, MSME, National Highways land acquisition, 4G mobile tower permissions, and other issues from the Collectorate here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, she said that as part of the R&R package for the displaced people who were given lands for the construction of the Polavaram project, 5,000 acres of land is required in Eluru district for land acquisition, R&R colonies, construction and other works, and 800 acres have already been identified in Buttaigudem and Jilugumilli mandals. She said that a review of land acquisition for the remaining 4,200 acres has been conducted mandal-wise and another 600 acres have been identified. She ordered that the land acquisition work be completed by August 15. She instructed the officials to hold village meetings in the respective villages after identifying the land for land acquisition. After identifying the lands, it was suggested that the RDO and other officials should discuss with the respective farmers and hold village meetings in their presence. All steps should be taken to pay compensation to the farmers for the lands as per the government regulations. The acquisition of land for national highways should be expedited and lands should be allotted for construction works. She said that the 4G mobile towers of Airtel, Jio, and BSNL should be located away from the populated areas and without causing any inconvenience to the surrounding people, and that permissions should be granted for the arrangement of towers after double-checking them at the field level. District joint collector P Dhatri Reddy, Alluri Seetharama Raju ITDA PO Apoorva Bharath, Bachu Smaran Raj, MV Ramana, M Achyuta Ambarish, Special Collector Y Sarala Vandanam participated from their office chambers. District Revenue Officer V Visveswara Rao, concerned officials, and officials of respective mandals participated through video conference from the District Collectorate video conference hall.
