crashed in the northwestern part of the country in Volyn Oblast on Tuesday (July 22). The crashed jet's pilot ejected and survived, the Ukrainian Air Force said while adding that the accident took place during a training mission.
The area where the Mirage 2000 fighter, supplied by France, crashed is far away from the Russian frontlines. The Russian and Ukrainian forces are battling it out in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country.

The Ukrainian Air Force posted details of the crash on its Telegram channel stating the Mirage 2000 jet faced an equipment failure. "On the evening of July 22, 2025, while performing a flight mission on a Mirage-2000 fighter, aviation equipment failed, which the pilot reported to the flight director," the statement translated by Google from Ukrainian to English read.

Western fighters in Ukrainian Air Force
The French built Mirage 2000, a fourth generation combat aircraft, is the second western fighter with the Ukrainian Air Force after the United States of America-made F-16 Fighting Falcon. However, the F-16s supplied to Ukraine were not by the US, but by its NATO partners - The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.

The fourth generation fighter, a product of Dassault Aviation, with the Ukrainian Air Force is a single-pilot, multi-role, single-engine combat aircraft. They have nine hard points to carry missiles and bombs along with two 30 mm canons to close aerial combat.

Ukrainian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighters are armed with MBDA Mica air-to-air and Scalp cruise missiles. They can also carry Safran AASM Hammer guided bombs to target Russian military installations and equipment on ground.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, has claimed that western fighters like F-16 and MIrage 2000 would not have any impact on its war machinery.

Panchkula: In a landmark ruling, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Panchkula has awarded a compensation of ₹1.17 crore to a 36-year-old man who suffered 100% disability after a horrific road accident while triple riding on a two-wheeler. The tribunal, presided over by District and Sessions Judge Ved Parkash Sirohi, held the car's driver, owner, and insurer jointly liable for the payout. However, his run ended with a dramatic revelation on Wednesday — he is Punjabi singer Baaz Sran, who just two months ago released a song likening a 'Sarkari Kothi' (govt residence) to a jail. In an irony of sorts, the lyrics of the song 'Sarkari Kothi' — which has 13 lakh views on YouTube — go: 'Jattan di sarkari kothi hundi jail kuddey (The official residence of Jatts is jail, lady).' Sran, who has 32,600 followers on Instagram and has sung duets with female singers like Deepak Dhillon and Gurlez Akhtar, was arrested by the Chandigarh zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the alleged seizure of 36kg opium in 2015. Sick & alone: Doctor, 80, dies in ‘suicide pact', wife critical
1 2 Nagpur: An 80-year-old homeopathy doctor and his 70-year-old wife, who were battling health issues and rued unfulfilled dreams for their family, allegedly consumed poison in a suicide pact at their residence at Samarth Nagari in Sonegaon police station limits on Tuesday. The doctor, Gangadharrao Harne, was declared dead at AIIMS Hospital while his wife Nirmala was rushed to a hospital in Ambazari in a critical condition. The couple, who lived alone, left behind three suicide notes detailing their struggles, said police. While two suicide notes were meant for their son and married daughter. In the third note, left behind for police, the couple requested that no one should be held responsible or blamed for their drastic decision. Police said the incident came to light around 8am when a neighbour called Shilpa Harne, the couple's daughter-in-law who resides in Bhilai. She immediately alerted Nirmala's brother, Raju Tivaskar, a 56-year-old furniture businessman from Srihari Nagar. The notes, written in Gangadharrao's handwriting, cited their deteriorating health and unfulfilled dreams for their son, Sudhir Harne, an accountant at Bhilai Steel Plant, and their daughter. Police found empty 100 ml aluminium bottles of Tafgor insecticide in the dustbin. The bottles were sent to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for mental health support and care-giving for the elderly, said police. While Nirmala is battling for life at the hospital, the community is mourning the loss of a respected doctor. Sonegaon police, under senior inspector Nitin Magar and zonal DCP Rushikesh Reddy, registered accidental death.
