VICTORIA — The British Columbia government has launched a review of its primary health care system, in accordance with the ruling New Democrats' confidence agreement with the Green Party.
The assessment is being co-ordinated by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the two-member Green caucus.
The government says in a statement that a working group will engage with key stakeholders in the assessment of all elements of B.C.'s primary care system.
Interim Green leader Jeremy Valeriote says the party expects the assessment will lead to 'real action on the deep challenges in B.C.'s health-care systems.'
The confidence agreement between the New Democrats and Greens, finalized in March, outlines the basis for the two Green legislative members to support the NDP in confidence votes.
The agreement seeks to stabilize Premier David Eby's slim one-seat majority, in exchange for specific actions in 12 policy areas including health care, housing, environment, electoral reform and B.C.'s response to American tariffs.

Early morning crash on Saskatoon bridge shuts down key lane during Wednesday commute
An early morning crash on the Sid Buckwold Bridge is skewing the morning commute Wednesday as police investigators shut down the bridge's southbound lane and the 19th Street underpass. The single-vehicle crash happened around 4:30 a.m. CST in the southbound lane near 20th Street, just as the roadway crests toward the river. "One person has been transported to hospital with undetermined injuries," police said in a news release. From the bridge, the rear wheels of a truck and part of a black plastic bed liner could be seen just on the other side of the west side of the bridge. From 19th Street underneath, part of the flipped truck could be seen through a stand of trees. Police taped off access to the crash from multiple approaches and were using a drone to survey the scene. There is no word when the bridge lane will reopen.

Toronto police set to announce arrests in Piper Arms mass shooting
Social Sharing Investigators with Toronto police are announcing arrests this afternoon linked to a March shooting at the Piper Arms Pub in Scarborough where a dozen people were hurt. In a news release Wednesday morning, investigators said they have made arrests in connection with the mass shooting "and a series of other violent incidents that occurred in the spring of 2025." Officers are set to speak at 2 p.m. at Toronto police headquarters, and CBC News will carry that news conference live in this story. Patrons at the pub, which is located near Scarborough Town Centre, were celebrating the business's opening night when three masked men walked in and opened fire, according to police. The suspects then took off. No one was killed, but 12 people were hurt. Coun. Michael Thompson, who represents Scarborough Centre, the ward where the shooting happened, previously told CBC News that seven people were shot and five were hurt by broken glass and other debris. Thompson said he had met with four of the victims who were shot, who said the gunmen were armed with assault rifles and handguns. "Ordinary people were subjected to trauma," Thompson said.
