Going into this offseason with big decisions to make in re-tooling the special teams, Morgan Rielly has failed the power play despite being already locked into a huge contract worth $60 million.
Ex-NHLer Carlo Colaiacovo has set forth the possibility of trading for Erik Karlsson as the answer. Karlsson's experience and service as the power-play quarterback will, of course, offer a much-needed uplift to the Leafs in the absence of Mitch Marner, who was previously doing the ticking of that box.

Carlo Colaiacovo, a former Leafs defenseman, now a media analyst in the Toronto area, has ignited some discussion with his provocative proposal: trade for Erik Karlsson to revitalize the team's stagnant power play.
Colaiacovo was talking on the "First Up" podcast. He stated how the Leafs do not have a defender right now that possesses the ability to effectively quarterback a power-play unit, and that was a void Karlsson could plug immediately.
Last season, the Maple Leafs tried to put forward Mitch Marner in the position of power-play quarterback, thereby sitting Morgan Rielly, who was in his eighth year of a $60 million contract.

With Marner no longer on the roster, the issue of setting an ideal candidate that commands the top unit is now again in the spotlight. Karlsson's offensive ability on the blue line and his bargain-basement one-year term make him an obvious trade target, according to Colaiacovo.
Karlsson, now 35, came off a very productive year in Pittsburgh, putting up 53 points in 82 games. On paper, Karlsson remains a long-term 7-figure signed contract defenseman initially signed by the San Jose Sharks; however, with just one-year left on that contract, Toronto has the opportunity to acquire him for a much lower cap hit.
Meanwhile, the Leafs made a splash by trading veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Henry Thrun. Reaves, the enforcer, entered last season on his last year of a three-year, $4.05 million deal, with barely any impact throughout the previous season.
Mike Grier, GM, mentioned Reaves' attributes of experience and toughness while Denmark complimented his positive influence in the dressing rooms of the multiple teams with which he has been affiliated: Rangers and Blues.

With Mitch Marner out of the equation and Morgan Rielly still not locking the power play down, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in desperate need of a solution. Karlsson may just be it. Whether or not the team heeds Carlo Colaiacovo's advice, we all know the mere discussion is a breath of fresh air into Toronto's offseason storyline.

Frederic Vasseur secures Ferrari contract extension amid Christian Horner replacement rumors

Frederic Vasseur (left) with Charles Leclerc (Image credit: Ferrari) The speculations about Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur facing a fate similar to sacked Red Bull team principal Christian Horner have finally been laid to rest. Ferrari has given Vasseur a multi-year contract extension up to 2027 amid the team's slow improvement in the ongoing Formula 1 season. The same has been confirmed by Vasseur as well as the Ferrari CEO. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur gets contract expansion For several days, certain media reports claimed current Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur's job was under threat over the team's struggling form in the Formula 1 Championship. Some reports even claimed that the recently fired Red Bull team principal Christian Horner could replace Vasseur at Ferrari. But Ferrari has itself put a full stop to such rumours. As shared on Ferrari's official X account, Vasseur said on his contract extension, "I'm grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me. This renewal is not just a confirmation – it's a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver. Over the past 30 months, we've laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination. We know what's expected, and we're all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nobel Scientist Identifies What's Draining Seniors Energy OxyNaturals Read More Undo " Confirming Vasseur is here to stay for long, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said in a statement, "Today we want to recognise what has been built and commit to what still needs to be achieved. It reflects our trust in Fred's leadership – a trust rooted in shared ambition, mutual expectations and clear responsibility. We move forward with determination and focus, united in our pursuit of the level of performance Ferrari has to aim for. " Frederic Vasseur's tenure at Ferrari Frederic Vasseur was appointed Ferrari team principal in 2023 and led the team to second position in the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship last year. He also played a pivotal role in bringing Lewis Hamilton to the team from Mercedes. However, Hamilton's long wait for a podium win gave many a reason to doubt Vasseur. The seven-time world champion is yet to win a Grand Prix or a podium even after 13 races. IND vs ENG: India field different XI in every match of the series; three players remain unused

(Getty Images) NEW DELHI: India's campaign in the ongoing five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England has been marked by constant flux in their playing XI, with captain Shubman Gill leading a side that featured a different combination in every match. As the series reaches its climax at The Oval, India entered the fifth and final Test with four fresh changes, continuing the trend of no unchanged XI throughout the tour. Live Score: India vs England 5th Test Despite the rotation and tactical reshuffling, three players — Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Abhimanyu Easwaran — did not feature in any of the five Tests. While Kuldeep remained on the bench despite some chatter around spin options, Arshdeep and Easwaran are still waiting for their Test debuts. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! India made their intent clear from the start of the series, frequently adapting based on conditions, form, and workload. The rotation of Jasprit Bumrah , who was rested as part of pre-decided workload management, meant at least one change was guaranteed. But the changes went beyond that. India vs England 5th Test Preview: Can Shubman Gill's India level the series at The Oval? After losing the first Test in Leeds, India made three changes at Edgbaston, replacing Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur, and Bumrah with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Akash Deep. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! However, a narrow 22-run loss there triggered more changes. For the fourth Test in Manchester, Sudharsan, Shardul, and debutant Anshul Kamboj were brought in, while Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, and Akash Deep were left out. India showed great grit to draw the fourth Test and stay alive in the series. But for the final showdown at The Oval, they shuffled again — Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna came in for Pant, Shardul, Kamboj, and Bumrah. Whether these constant changes help or hinder India's bid to level the series 2-2 remains to be seen. But one thing is certain — India's adaptability and bench strength have been thoroughly tested in this gruelling five-Test saga. IND vs ENG 5th Test Live Score Three players — Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Abhimanyu Easwaran — have gone through the entire five-Test series without featuring in a single match. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep was in the mix early on, especially with his improved red-ball form. But India chose to go with all-rounder options and stuck to a pace-heavy attack throughout the series, keeping him on the bench for all five Tests. Arshdeep Singh, who was dealing with an injury in during the tour, was in contention for the final Test after regaining fitness. However, with Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and debutant Akash Deep preferred as pace options, the left-armer didn't get his Test debut either. India vs England 5th Test Preview: Can Shubman Gill's India level the series at The Oval? For top-order batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, it was a familiar story yet again. A regular in India's standby group for overseas tours, Easwaran was part of the extended squad but never broke into the XI. Among those that didn't play, the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav raised questions time and again, with fans and pundits alike expressing their disapproval of the same. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 4 Ways You Can Lower Your Car Insurance Costs Policy Auto Pro Get Quote Undo Ahead of the final Test, the spinner's exclusion seems to have stemmed out of a tactical decision. The conditions at The Oval appear to have played a big role, given that since the start of 2023, there have been 22 first-class matches at this venue. Seamers have taken 617 wickets in those games, while spinners have managed just 79. The trend is even more one-sided this season, with 131 out of 150 wickets falling to pace. Poll Should Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the playing XI for the final Test? Yes No With India desperate for the win, fans would be hopeful that this tactical gamble pays off, and India secure a thrilling win.
