Top Iowa basketball recruiting target commits to Big Ten rival

Recruiting in college is full of wins and losses. You get some prospects to commit, and some go elsewhere.
Ben McCollum has won a lot of recruiting battles early in his tenure at Iowa, but he lost a big one on Thursday to a Big Ten rival school.
Colin Rice is a four-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class from Waukee Northwest High School in Waukee, Iowa. The skilled and lengthy wing was a top target for McCollum and the Hawkeyes, as they wanted to keep his talents in-state. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Rice has other plans for his future. Joe Tipton was the first to report that Rice has committed to play his college ball for Fred Hoiberg and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
As Tipton said, Rice picked Nebraska over Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, and countless other offers. It's not the first wing the Hawkeyes have lost to Lincoln this offseason, as Pryce Sandfort transferred to Nebraska earlier this year. While it's a blow to Iowa's 2026 class, it's far from the end of the world for that group.
McCollum and the Hawks are still in the thick of a bunch of recruiting battles for great 2026 players, including four-stars Katrelle Harmon, Quinn Costello, and Arafan Diane. If Iowa can land one or two of those players, the 2026 class can still be great, and we all know what McCollum is capable of in the transfer portal.
You win some recruiting battles and you lose others. It's part of the game. While Iowa wasn't able to secure Rice for its 2026 class, McCollum has earned the trust of the fanbase with his ability to bring top talent to Iowa City.

The Thrill and Agony: UFC on ABC 9 winner and loser reactions

A post shared by Mohammad Yahya محمد يحيى (@yahyamma) Since the early days when the sport was anything but a mainstream endeavor, the MMA industry has thrived and survived through various websites, forums, and – perhaps most importantly – social-media platforms. Fighters interact with fans, each other and many more through the likes of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, which helps outsiders get a deeper look into the minds of the athletes. Following Saturday's UFC on ABC 9 in Abu Dhabi, several of the winning and losing fighters, along with their coaches, training partners or family members, took to social media to react to the event or share a message with supporters. Check out some of those reactions. Elite 2025 RHP and Texas A&M commit signs with the Milwaukee Brewers

Texas A&M's 2026 baseball roster won't include another top 2025 prospect, as elite RHP Chase Bentley, who was selected in the 19th Round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, has reportedly signed with the Franchise for a surprising $757,500, which is reportedly a record for a player selected in the 19th Round. Bentley joins several Texas A&M 2025 signees who have opted to sign with MLB teams. Like junior outfielder Jace LaViolette, who was selected 27th overall by the Cleveland Guardians, and signed signed for over $4 million, Bentley's future is extremely bright, and while many, including myself expected him to suit up with the Aggies next season, turning down more than half a million to develop in the minor leagues before being called up would be even more surprising. Texas A&M's 2026 pitching rotation will likely include Weston Moss, Shane Sdao, and another new addition from the transfer portal, while the bullpen features several young but intriguing names, including Caden McCoy, who developed down the stretch last season. However, closer Josh Stewart, who was granted a medical exemption for the 2026 season, will immediately boost what was a shaky position after his injury. Agreeing with MLBPipeline writer Jim Callis, Texas A&M will miss out on a player with a pitching arsenal that goes past the fastball, excelling with his changeup, which translates to the MLB, and could result in an early call-up if he excels in the minor leagues. Iowa basketball star Bennett Stirtz earns invite to Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp

Elite 😎#Hawkeyes Before his first year with the Hawkeyes after transferring from Drake in the offseason, Iowa basketball senior Bennett Stirtz earned an invitation to the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp. Stirtz is one of 12 student-athletes to earn an invite to the elite camp, led by 20-year NBA vet and 12-time All-Star Chris Paul. The camp teaches attendees what it takes to play at the highest level and how to prepare for the hurdles they will face in college and then in the transition to the NBA. During his lone season at Drake last year, Stirtz was tabbed as the Missouri Valley Conference Larry Bird Player of the Year and Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year after leading the league in scoring (19.2), steals (2.21), and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.86), while ranking second in assists (5.7). Stirtz led the NCAA in minutes played, averaging 39:22 per game. Through his incredible junior season stats, he was an All-America honoree by Field of 68, Andy Katz, the Associated Press, and the USBWA during the 2024-25 season. Stirtz was also a finalist for both the Lou Henson Award (top mid-major player) and Riley Wallace Award (most impactful transfer). Stirtz is one of 12 newcomers on the 14-player Hawkeye roster under first-year head coach Ben McCollum, who has assembled an Iowa transfer class that is rated as the eighth-best class in the nation by 247Sports. The Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp will take place in Las Vegas from July 29 to August 1.
