Jaipur Patriots enters UTT semifinals
With Jeet Chandra and Yashansh Malik winning three of the six men's singles games and Britt Eerland and Sreeja Akula continuing their strong show, the Patriots outplayed PBG Pune Jaguars 9-6 to confirm its entry into the knockout stage.
For the Jaguars, ever since a back injury forced Dina Meshref to pull out of the tournament, season six of UTT did not pan out the way the team wanted as it finished sixth in the standings.
The feature match turned out to be the all-Bengal affair up front between Jeet Chandra and Anirban Ghosh. The bespectacled Jeet was at the top of his game, with his powerful forehand taking even the familiar opponents by surprise frequently. The down-the-line winner on the turn at 8-6 in the second game was one of the points of the day.
Once Jeet gave the Patriots the 2-1 lead, the absence of Jha was not to be felt, until Sreeja won a close decider against Zion Lee to close the match out. Yashansh Malik, who had sat on the bench for three of the four matches, made his opportunity count by snatching a game off southpaw Alvaro Robles.
The result: Jaipur Patriots bt PBG Pune Jaguars 9-6 (Jeet Chandra bt Anirban Ghosh 11-8, 11-9, 10-11; Britt Eerland bt Reeth Rishya 11-9, 6-11, 11-10; Eerland & Chandra bt Reeth & Alvaro Robles 9-11, 11-6, 11-7; Yashansh Malik lost to Robles 4-11, 11-6, 3-11; Sreeja Akula bt Zion Lee 11-5, 6-11, 11-8).
The standings: Dempo Goa Challengers 44 (5) Q, Jaipur Patriots 41 (5) Q, Dabang Delhi TTC 39 points (4 matches) Q, Kolkata ThunderBlades 36 (5), PBG Pune Jaguars 34 (5), U Mumba TT 32 (4),Ahmedabad SG Pipers 30 (5), Stanley's Chennai Lions 29 (5).

Bangladesh, Kazakhstan replace Pakistan, Oman for Asia Cup mens hockey in India
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) Bangladesh and Kazakhstan have replaced Pakistan and Oman for the men's Asia Cup hockey tournament to be held in Rajgir, Bihar from August 29 as per the schedule released on Tuesday. Hosts India have drawn China, Japan and Kazakhstan in Pool A, while Pool B comprises Malaysia, Korea, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh. Malaysia and Bangladesh will get the continental tournament underway with their opening fixture on August 29 before India play China in the first day's last game. The final, third-place match and 5/6th place classification games are scheduled on September 7. The Indian government had said that it would provide visas to the Pakistani players for the tournament, but the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has refused to travel, citing security concerns. The organisers had in advance approached Bangladesh to fill up Pakistan's place in the eight-team tournament. Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup — a qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup — was uncertain after the military confrontation with India following the Pahalgam terror attack. India had launched Operation Sindoor to dismantle terror infrastructure in Pakistan after the terrorist attack that killed 26 people. 'Unfortunate': Ajit Agarkar Explains Yashasvi Jaiswal's Absence From Asia Cup Squad
Last Updated: Ajit Agarkar has said that it was unfortunate that Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn't find a place in India's 15-member Asia Cup squad. Former India cricketer and chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that it was 'unfortunate' that Yashasvi Jaiswal didn't find a place in the 15-man squad for the Asia Cup, adding that Abhishek Sharma was the one who got a go-ahead due to his performances over the past year in the format. Abhishek, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma have been phenomenal in national colours through the last season and it was expectedly tough for the BCCI to drop either of them to accommodate Jaiswal. Notably, the youngster has been named as one of the standby players, alongside Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel. 'It's unfortunate. What Abhishek has done over the last year or so, plus giving us a bowling option, is required. One of these guys was always going to miss out," Agarkar said while speaking to the media after he and Suryakumar Yadav announced the Asia Cup squad in Mumbai on Tuesday. Under Suryakumar's able captaincy, the Indian T20 team has a phenomenal 85% record, winning 17 of its last 20 matches. None of these matches featured Jaiswal and hence, it was tough for the youngster to get into the 15-man squad. Jaiswal was part of the 15-member squad that won the T20 World Cup last year, but didn't play even one match. Before Jaiswal became busy with Test commitments in the past year, he was playing T20Is and was doing well, including an impressive Indian Premier League. In IPL 2025, Jaiswal scored 559 runs in 14 matches at an average of 43 and a strike rate of 159.71. It was his next best performance after IPL 2023. In 22 T20Is, Jaiswal has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 with one hundred to his name. His last T20I appearance was during India's tour of Sri Lanka, where he scored 80 runs in three matches, at an average of 26.66 and a strike rate of 177.77. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
