Meet Greta Thunberg's little known SISTER who's changed her name & adopted racy image to get out of eco-fanatic's shadow

WHILE Greta Thunberg has made headlines for climate and Palestine campaigning over the past half-decade, her lesser known sister forged her own path.
Ditching the famous surname of her activist sister, Beata Ernman has stepped out

Greta Thunberg, who rose to prominence over her school climate strikes as a teenager, found her way into the news again this month as member of the crew of the "Freedom Flotilla".
The vessel was stopped from reaching Gaza by Israeli forces, and Thunberg has since been deported from Israel.
But while the climate activist bemoaned her "kidnapping" this week, Beata shared pics from her latest photo shoot on Instagram.
There is little on her social media feed that would suggest she's related to Greta.

The risque photos are a stark contrast from the assiduous activist image carefully curated by her older sister.
Beata - who goes by the name Bea - has instead opted to follow in her mother's footsteps to pursue a career in performing arts.
She even uses her mother's surname, in contrast to Greta.
Bea, who was born in November 2005, has grown a following of 10,400 followers on her Instagram account.

But over the years, she has faced relentless mocking and bullying over her sister's campaigning.
Greta once reflected that Bea is "the one who suffers" as a result of her climate activism.
Greta Thunberg bizarrely claims she DIDN'T KNOW her 'Freedom Flotilla' crewmates had shown support for Hamas & Hezbollah_1
Back when she was 16, she told Swedish media: "She is 13 years old and she has been subjected to systematic bullying, threats and harassment.
"The people who write threats and hate to me do it to the whole family, even to her."

Now aged 19, Bea projects a much more confident image to the world on her social media feeds.
The daughter of former Eurovision contestant Malena Ernman and film producer Svante Thunberg, Bea has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome (ADHD), the MailOnline has reported.

Her sister Greta was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome as a child.
But despite walking a different path in life to her activist sister, Bea's work still doesn't shy away from addressing political themes.
Talking about her single I Found Your Father's Gun, the teen told her followers: "When people objectify girls, they reduce us to body parts — They treat us like multiple girls add up to one man. So in this song, I use their own language against them.
"I objectify him by sexualizing his father, to expose the absurdity, the cruelty, and the double standard, associating him with another man, to flip it, as if 10 men were treated like 1 girl.

"Beneath the metaphor is something real: Men need to stop taking advantage of girls who are too young to fight back.
"This song is what it sounds like when we do. When the object speaks. Twice as brutal as the offense itself, right? Right."
Bea's love of the performing arts goes back years.
When she was just 13 years old, she performed one of her songs on the Swedish prime-time TV show Bingolotto.

Greta has also expressed her admiration for "my super talented sister" on social media in the past.
Bea has previously shown up to support her sister when Greta surged to fame with her school climate strikes - with the two sisters pictured at demonstrations together.
The teen singer was also once cast as a young Edith Piaf in a musical that also starred her mother.
"I have been dancing and singing for as long as I can remember," she said in response to the casting announcement.

"To be able to perform her immortal music is a dream come true."
Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel this week after the country's naval forces stopped the "Freedom Flotilla" from reaching Gaza.

Family pleads for the release of a Nepali student abducted by Hamas

The family of a Nepali man taken captive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas appealed to his captors for his release, stressing that he has no involvement in the conflict in Gaza. Bipin Joshi, now 25, was among 17 Nepali students studying agriculture in southern Israel during the October 7 2023 Hamas attack that ignited the war in Gaza. Pushpa Joshi travels eight hours each way to Kathmandu to lobby officials to secure her brother's release (AP Photo/Niranjan Shrestha) Mr Joshi had worked hard in a government competition to earn a spot to study in Israel, his 17-year-old sister, Pushpa Joshi, said from Kathmandu. He arrived in southern Israel just three weeks before the attack. It was his first time out of Nepal. 'Bipin Joshi is an innocent agriculture student,' Pushpa said. 'He is a student who has a long life ahead of him, who is just 25 years old now.' Militants killed 10 of the Nepali students in the attack and injured six others. Mr Joshi saved multiple lives by tossing a live grenade out of the bomb shelter where they were hiding, his sister said, before he was abducted and taken to Gaza. His family has not had a sign of life from him since Israel obtained security footage from a hospital in Gaza showing Mr Joshi, so they know he was taken alive to Gaza, but have no information about him since then. Pushpa, who was 15 when her brother was kidnapped, lives with their parents in a town in western Nepal. He is alive and we believe from the bottom of our hearts that he for sure is going to come back all safe and sound. We have big hopes that he will be back She travels eight hours each way on buses to Kathmandu regularly to lobby officials to secure her brother's release. She has met the country's prime minister and president several times. Nepal's government says it has repeatedly sought help from Qatari and Egyptian officials to get Mr Joshi freed. 'He is alive and we believe from the bottom of our hearts that he for sure is going to come back all safe and sound,' Pushpa said. 'We have big hopes that he will be back.' Hamas-led militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took 251 hostages in the October 7 attack. They are still holding 53 hostages, around 20 of them believed to be alive. The majority of the others were released in ceasefire agreements or other deals. Israeli forces have rescued eight living hostages from Gaza and recovered dozens of bodies, including five over the past week. In the ensuing conflict, more than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. Pushpa described her brother as her best friend (Niranjan Shrestha/AP) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed 'doubts' about whether several hostages are still alive. None of the previously released hostages have seen Mr Joshi recently during their captivity. His parents are constantly monitoring news about the Gaza conflict, and get their hopes up whenever they see signs of a hostage release. 'News is always on, all day from morning to night, at our house,' Pushpa said. They are also in contact with families of other Nepalis who were killed or injured in the attack, though Mr Joshi is the only Nepali hostage. Pushpa said her brother is her best friend, and that they would often learn, sing and dance together while their parents were at work. 'In rainy season like now, we used to get wet in the rain and dance,' she said. He studied diligently to earn the scholarship to study agriculture in Israel, she said. The exchange program at Kibbutz Alumim was close to the Gaza border in a major agricultural area. Nepali citizens go to Israel for both education and employment, to learn the country's advanced agricultural techniques. Agriculture is the backbone of Nepal's economy, and the primary source of income for more than 60% of the population.

Palestinian activist from Cork is homeward bound

A 71-year-old Cork activist is set to return to her home after being deported from Israel for protesting the demolition of homes in the occupied West Bank. Cork woman Deirdre 'D' Murphy was arrested by Israeli authorities at the small village of Khalet al-Daba'a on May 31 and spent close to two weeks in prison. The long-standing member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) for Palestine was arrested alongside a Swedish woman after being accused of being in a 'closed military zone'. Deirdre Murphy with her son Dale Ryan. Pic: Supplied The pensioner was served with a deportation order but decided to spend time in jail in order to appeal it. The ISM confirmed yesterday she was returning to her home in Wales. They claimed she was brought before a tribunal without legal representation, despite requests, and her lawyer was only allowed to visit her once while she was in custody. Dale Ryan, Ms Murphy's son, said: 'The past 10 days have been intense and we have had to trust that the Israeli authorities would treat my mother fairly and ensure her basic needs were met. From their treatment of the Palestinians over the past several decades, this was not something we had the most confidence in. My mother did not want to be detained or deported, she wanted to be in the Masafer Yatta region with her friends, helping in any way she could, but I know she would have been pleased her situation helped to draw some more eyes to the appalling treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank and the humanitarian crisis we are witnessing in Gaza.' Israel has accelerated plans to build settlements in the West Bank since the war with Hamas began, with 22 more approved just before Ms Murphy's arrest.
