Lawrence Bishnoi gang sharpshooter killed in Hapur: Uttar Pradesh Police
A Lawrence Bishnoi gang sharpshooter, who faced 20 criminal cases such as murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and robbery, was shot dead late on Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur, a police officer said on Thursday.
Uttar Pradesh's additional director general of police Amitabh Yash said Naveen Kumar, a resident of Ghaziabad's Loni, was critically injured in an exchange of fire and died at a hospital. He added that the exchange was triggered after a joint team of the Special Task Force's Noida unit and Delhi Police's Special Cell confronted a group of armed criminals.
Police said Kumar, who was closely associated with gangster Hashim Baba, was first booked under the Arms Act at Delhi's Seemapuri police station in 2008. In 2009, he was named in a murder case in Sahibabad and booked under the Gangster Act in Uttar Pradesh a year later. He was convicted in two cases in Delhi.
A second police officer called Kumar's killing a major success in a crackdown on organised crime. '...sends a clear message to criminal networks operating in northern India. We are committed to dismantling these gangs and ensuring the safety of citizens,' said the officer. Police said Kumar's killing is expected to disrupt Lawrence Bishnoi gang's operations and networks.
Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, Anmol Bishnoi, operates the gang from Canada and the United States. The gang has been accused of attacks, including on actor Salman Khan. A suspected member of the gang claimed responsibility for the murder of Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai last year.
The gang has threatened singers, industrialists, political functionaries, and sportspersons to extort money from them. It has resorted to killings if they fail to pay up.
The gang is spread across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Lucknow: In a serious breach of prison regulations, jailed former MP Rizwan Zaheer was found to be living in VIP comfort during an inspection at Lalitpur District Jail on Sunday. Action is being taken against the officials responsible." The report, sent to prison headquarters, outlines procedural lapses and names jail staff suspected of allowing illegal items to be smuggled into the barrack. Departmental action is underway against at least four prison personnel, including a warder and a deputy jailor. Jail superintendent Mukesh Kumar claimed that Zaheer, a heart patient, was advised by doctors to sleep on a soft mattress. He acknowledged that cash was found but claimed the amount was Rs 7,500. Zaheer, a former Samajwadi Party MP from Balrampur and a known history-sheeter from Harraiya, has been lodged in jail since July 2022 in connection with the murder conspiracy of former Tulshipur Nagar Panchayat chairman Firoz Ahmad alias Pappu. He faces 14 serious charges, including murder, attempt to murder, Arms Act violations, and Gangster Act cases.

Prime accused in Pak-linked fake SIM cards case arrested
Guwahati: A prime accused in the fake SIM card racket with a Pakistan link case under 'Operation Ghost SIM' was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police. This raised the total of arrests to 11 since May 16. The prime accused, Mostafa Rahman (29), a resident of Pokalagi Part III village under the jurisdiction of Golokganj police station in lower Assam's Dhubri district, was arrested on Saturday night. Police recovered one laptop, two mobile phones, three micro ATM machines, one biometric device, six ATM cards, 11 voter ID cards, one Aadhar card, and one PAN card. "Further interrogation of the accused is currently underway," police said. ' Operation Ghost SIM' was launched by Assam Police based on Army intelligence on May 16. The police busted the racket involving fake SIM cards being used from bases in Assam, Rajasthan, and Telangana for cybercrimes and anti-national activities, including sensitive information sharing with agents in Pakistan. Seven persons were arrested at that time. The arrests were made in Rajasthan and Telangana and Assam. Police said the accused used to take SIM cards in someone else's name. The cards were used not only for cybercrimes but also for anti-national activities. "In this case, there seems to be clear evidence that some of these numbers have been shared across and are being used by anti-national elements and inimical elements to use WhatsApp accounts that look as if they are India-based," police said. Charges of 'criminal conspiracy' and 'waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against the Govt of India' under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as different charges under the 'Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967' and 'IT Act', were slapped on the arrestees.
