J&K Authorities Seal Mazhar-e-Shuhada After Parties Seek Permission to Commemorate Martyr's Day
Srinagar: Authorities foiled the plans of Kashmir-based political parties to commemorate Martyrs' Day by sealing the historic Sufi shrine of Khwaja Bahauddin Naqshbandi in Srinagar on Saturday (12 July). The site houses the graves of Kashmiri protesters who were killed by the Dogra army in 1931.
In an advisory posted on X, Jammu and Kashmir police, without citing any reason, said that the applications from the political parties who had sought permission to commemorate the Martyrs' Day on Sunday (13 July) have been turned down by the authorities.

Earlier this week, the ruling National Conference, the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), and other political outfits had sought permission to visit the Martyrs' Graveyard or Mazhar-e-Shuhada located in downtown Srinagar's Khawaja Bazar where the 22 victims are buried.
Moderate Hurriyat chairman and Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continued to remain under house arrest for the second consecutive day on Saturday, had planned to lead a procession from Jamia Masjid to the graveyard on Sunday.
However, the police advisory on Saturday evening warned: 'The General Public is hereby advised to strictly comply with these instructions and refrain from violating the orders issued by District Administration. Any violation of these orders shall invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of law'.

The advisory was issued less than an hour after Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, posted a 35-second video on X showing her sprinkling red flowers at the graves. The undated video is likely to have left the security agencies red-faced given the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party's (BJP) contempt for the Martyrs' Day commemorations in Jammu and Kashmir.
'Knowing that tomorrow we'd be prevented from moving out, managed to pay tributes to our martyrs who laid down their lives on July 13, 1931 for democracy. Their memory is being wilfully erased yet their voices echo in every Kashmiri's heart that refuses to bow & dares to hope,' the PDP chief's daughter posted on X.
A J&K police mini-truck was also deployed on the main road outside the shrine which wore deserted looks.
Security forces also set up checkpoints on the arterial roads leading to the shrine where some commuters were stopped and frisked before being allowed to proceed to prevent any violation of the police advisory.

Terming the restrictions 'on a day of profound historical and emotional significance' as 'deeply unfortunate', NC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said that 'denying people the space to remember their martyrs is fundamentally unjust'.
'July 13 is not a routine date, it is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of dignity, justice and rights. We urge the administration to reflect on the gravity of this decision. No order can suppress memory. No restriction can erase (sic) truth. The people of Kashmir will continue to honour their martyrs peacefully, with dignity, and with unwavering resolve,' Sadiq said.
In a statement, Mirwaiz's office said that he paid 'glowing tributes to the first martyrs of Kashmir of July 13, 1931, on their 94th martyrdom anniversary'.
'These martyrs laid down their precious lives in the noble cause and pursuit of the realisation of the basic rights of the people of Kashmir under autocratic and discriminatory rule. Their sacrifices are unforgettable and will always be remembered,' the statement added.

July 13 was observed as a public holiday when Jammu and Kashmir was a state.
However, months after Article 370 was read down by the BJP-led Union government and the state bifurcated and demoted into a Union Territory, the local administration dropped July 13 and December 5 – the birth anniversary of the NC founder Sheikh Abdullah – as a public holiday from the official list.
Both dates were excluded from the list of public holidays issued last year by the General Administration Department, which is under the direct control of J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, who holds the reins of the UT's top bureaucracy and the police.
People's Conference and others have accused the ruling NC of betraying its own political manifesto by allegedly failing to restore July 13 as a public holiday.
'This is the last year they will be able to do this. From next year, we will mark 13th July with the solemnity and respect this day deserves," Omar Abdullah had written last year he, Mehbooba and others were prevented from visiting the Mazhar-e-Shuhada by the LG administration.

Eight of gang that kept Gandhinagar doctor under ‘digital arrest' for 103 days, cheated her of Rs 19.24 crore, held: Police
A few weeks after they placed a Gandhinagar-based doctor under 'digital arrest' for 103 days, threatening her into handing over Rs 19.24 crore to them, eight members of a gang of alleged conmen have been arrested, the State Cyber Crime Cell of the CID said on Friday. The accused have been identified as Yashpalsinh Bharatsinh Chauhan (24), Naaz Ibrahim Razsumra (23), Nilesh Jaman Raank (32), Jaydev Bankesh Nirmal (20), Ameer Hussain Anwar Manek (21), Shabbir Hanif Samvat (23), Rashid Ramzan Pathan (21), and Ismail Bachu Khumbiya (29). They were arrested from Rajkot, Amreli and Jamnagar with the help of local police and brought over to Gandhinagar, police said. On how they cracked the case, a statement from the State Cyber Crime Cell said they followed the money trail to bank accounts into which the victims had been made to deposit the money. They had received alerts that more than Rs 50 lakh had been withdrawn from eight of the accounts through self-cheques, police said. Based on this banking information, three teams were formed by Detective Inspector ND Ingrodiya. These teams sought help from local police, tracked down the accused persons in the three cities, and placed them under arrest, said police. Police are yet to recover the money that the cybercriminals cheated out of the victim since they have spread it over a vast network through angadia (informal courier) firms, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharmendra Sharma said. The search for other unknown accused persons is also underway. Case background On July 28, the State Cyber Crime Cell said it was investigating a case where at least five accused persons, identifying themselves as a telecommunications official, police sub inspector, two public prosecutors, and a notary officer, had contacted the complainant through different mobile numbers and accused her of money laundering. They cheated her of Rs 19.24 crore in the guise of verification of her properties, police had said. The accused told the woman that a case of money laundering had been registered against her. The accused then sent a fake letter in which the complainant had been named as accused in a purported case of violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) as well as under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). They warned the victim against talking to anyone about the matter, said police. According to a statement from the State Cyber Crime Cell, 'The accused persons then kept their hapless victim under digital arrest for 103 days, from March 15 to June 26, through WhatsApp video calls. (She) was told that a man in civilian dress was keeping an eye on her and if she wanted to get out of the case, she would have to provide information about all her properties.' It further said, 'After the complainant provided the information about the properties, the accused persons made her withdraw her Fixed Deposit (FD), sell the gold in her house and take a loan against the gold in her bank locker. They made her sell her house and shares in her stock market portfolio, and got her to transfer a total amount of over Rs 19 crore to different bank accounts on a fake receipt of 'Financial Supervisionary Freezing Certificate' on the false promise that the money would be returned to her after investigation.' Investigation in the case is underway.

Copter bound for Pandharpur lands in Tuljapur, pilot claims location mix-up
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A helicopter heading to Pandharpur from Hyderabad made an unexpected landing in Dharashiv district's Tuljapur on Wednesday afternoon, triggering alarm. The pilot reportedly landed without clearance after misjudging the location, near a govt construction site. The public works department (PWD) subsequently fined the operator Rs 10,000. Dharashiv collector Keerthi Kiran Pujar told TOI, "We have been informed that the helicopter was heading to Pandharpur, a prominent religious destination situated in another district, but the pilot got confused between the two names and landed in Tuljapur." PWD officials said the helicopter, operated by Mumbai-based firm, departed Hyderabad around noon and landed near the Tuljabhavani temple around 1.30pm. "The spot it landed on is close to the PWD helipad located at the department's construction site on Naldurg Road, where no prior permission had been granted for any such landing," an official said. The unexpected landing of the helicopter, especially in a high-security zone near the temple, created confusion. Police and revenue department officials rushed to the site to investigate. When questioned, the pilot reportedly showed documents indicating that the copter was scheduled to land in Pandharpur and claimed the landing in Tuljapur was "due to a location mix-up". Tuljapur police officers, including assistant inspector Annasaheb Manjare, and PWD executive engineer Vijay Awale inspected the site and reviewed the landing documents. Since the landing was carried out without prior clearance from the district administration or aviation authorities, PWD imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the helicopter firm. The fine was paid promptly, and the helicopter departed from Tuljapur around 5.30pm, officials said. "The location is sensitive due to the large number of devotees visiting the temple. Unauthorized landings pose serious security concerns. Immediate action was taken to ensure rules were enforced," a senior police officer said. The officials also reported the matter to the district collector and the superintendent of police for further review.

Chhangur claims innocence, accuses three men of ‘trapping' him
1 2 Lucknow: Chhangur Baba, the alleged mastermind of illegal religious conversion racket, on Friday denied all allegations and accused three individuals of extortion and falsely implicating him. Speaking briefly after his Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand ended on Friday and he was sent back to jail, Chhangur repeatedly asserted: "I am innocent. I have not converted a single person." He accused Wasiyuddin, Mohammad Ahmad and Santosh Singh of extortion and falsely implicating him. "They are demanding Rs 60 lakh from me. They are the ones orchestrating this trap," he claimed, adding that those speaking against him were "paid to defame" him. Chhangur was on a five-day custodial remand with the ED. During the interrogation in Lucknow, officials questioned him about foreign funding, multiple visits to Dubai, and his alleged associate Neetu alias Nasreen. ED sources said Chhangur remained evasive on most questions and gave vague replies regarding his Dubai trips and links with foreign donors. He also admitted to training Neetu for religious propagation but denied any wrongdoing. On ED's question about properties purchased in her name, Chhangur said he trusted her as a "co-worker in spiritual work." ED officials said they have already gathered details of several Dubai-based properties linked to him. Meanwhile, a request has been filed seeking custody of Naveen Rohra, another aide of Chhangur suspected to have knowledge of his hidden assets. So far, seven individuals have been arrested in the case, including Chhangur, his son Mehboob, Neetu alias Nasreen, and Naveen. Neetu, like Chhangur, maintained silence during her ATS interrogation. ED officials now intend to extract crucial leads from Naveen, who is believed to be a key link in the alleged conversion-funding syndicate.
