'Mr Hamilton Accies' let go by club following relegation to League One
Hamilton Accies have parted company with club stalwart Scott Struthers.
The man who is referred to by fans as 'Mr Hamilton Accies' has held various roles at the club down the years and was most recently club administrator. He is a familiar sight at all Accies games and has worked for the South Lanarkshire side for over four decades.
However, Lanarkshire Live Sport can confirm he was dismissed by the board of directors last night via a letter sent by email.
His exit comes just weeks after the club were hit with a 15-point deduction for breaching mutiple SPFL rules and were relegated from the Scottish Championship as a result.
A former club secretary and one of the club's two historians, Struthers is also a UEFA match delegate and stadium inspector with an in-depth knowledge of the game, but Accies will no longer utilise his expertise going forward.
Accies are in the process of moving to Cumbernauld's Broadwood Stadium this summer after announcing the are leaving New Douglas Park, their home for the past 24 years which is not owned by the football club.

Hamilton Accies losing Elite Academy status will result in players leaving, confirms boss
John Rankin says only those who are under full-time contracts can be brought into the first team squad Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin fears an exodus of players from the club's disbanded academy set-up, but those remaining may be utilised in the revamped KDM Evolution Trophy. The pausing of the academy set-up from ages 11 to 15 led to the loss of Hamilton's Club Academy Scotland (CAS) Elite status, and the folding of their remaining under-17 and under-19 teams. Rankin says that's another problem to deal with, but feels for the young players, as he says only those who are under full-time contracts can come into the first-team squad. Hamilton's once-proud academy set-up yielded players like Lewis Ferguson, James McCarthy and James McArthur, but has been left in tatters, with the club appealing the revoking of their CAS Elite licence. Rankin said: 'Right now my heart goes out to the players, because it's really frustrating for them. 'They've been here for a period of time, be it from under-8s, under-9s, have made it all the way through to the under-19s and get a chance of playing professional football, and then that's taken away from them. 'But listen, we didn't meet the requirements, so now we need to try and find football for them and be able to make up the gap between youth and senior football, and give them the pathway that they deserve. 'They played the other night there [in the KDM Evolution Trophy against Motherwell 'B'] and those games might need to take over for them and give them opportunities to bridge that gap between youth and men's football.' Rankin added: 'The ones that are full-time can come in to the first-team fold. They have full-time contracts and are professional players. 'Over and above that, anyone who is connected to the academy, my understanding of it is they're free to go if they don't have a full-time contract, which is disappointing. 'The hard part with CAS, taking away that licence, we don't have any organised or league games for them, so that's disappointing. 'But at the same time, these players now need to get an opportunity with the first team. 'As I've said before, there's not a lot of bodies that we can bring in, and there will be opportunities for them throughout the season. 'That's always frustrating, because you want to bring in players, you want to make sure they can benefit from playing against good opposition.'

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin blasts side after East Fife collapse
The visitors fought back in the second half to win 2-1 and take the points back to Methil Disappointed Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin blasted his side and said they weren't direct enough as East Fife fought back to win 2-1 at Broadwood this afternoon. A Rob Jones double in two second-half minutes cancelled out Scott Robinson's 15th-minute opener, giving Accies a bloody nose and a first League One defeat of the season. Rankin said: 'It's a hard one to take, especially given how the first half was. We knew what their threats would be, and how to try and stop it, 'I thought they still had chances in the first half – Jamie Smith makes a great double save, Charlie Telfer clears one off the line, they caused problems and they were a threat. 'We knew that, with the players they have up front – we named them yesterday. 'But the position we got ourselves into in the first half, going 1-0 up, creating chances, could have been in front more, and getting hit with the sucker-punch. 'The way we started the second half wasn't great, it wasn't the right way, and we had a warning last week against Queen of the South but did exactly the same thing, and this time we didn't get the reaction. 'They got their tails up and got the second goal, which is really poor, and I'm just disappointed that we weren't able to capitalise on the fact that we were in a winning position at half-time.' Rankin added: 'They were more direct, more physical, and we never matched that. The fact that they were able to get the two goals back and we reverted to playing them at what they're good at was disappointing. 'We need to be mentally stronger to still be able to play at what we think we're good at, at times in the game. 'We were looking for a reaction but we didn't get one.'

‘Who is playing left-back?' ask puzzled Rangers fans as Russell Martin names shock lineup for Alloa clash
IT's no secret that Rangers are in dire need of a new left-back. Jefte is on his way out of Rangers with a big-money move to Palmeiras looming, while Ridvan Yilmaz is well and truly out of favour at Ibrox amid a potential return to Turkey. 2 Rangers boss Russell Martin has made a surprise call in defence Credit: Getty 2 Alloa manager Andy Graham Credit: PA Advertisement Russell Martin even allowed Robbie Fraser to leave the club permanently as he completed a move to the Scottish Championship to join Neil Lennon's Dunfermline last night. Rangers are seriously lacking options in that area as things stand with Jefte and Yilmaz's exits on the cards. And that's quite evident to see in Martin's team selection for tonight's Premier Sports Cup tie against Alloa. The Rangers boss has made as many as TEN changes from their Champions League qualifier second leg against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night. Advertisement Nasser Djiga is the only player to keep his place as he won't be available to feature in the Premiership clash against St Mirren next week due to his suspension. And with Jefte and Yilmaz not being selected, that leaves just Max Aarons and James Tavernier as the manager's only options at full-back, with right-back Dujon Sterling still out injured. But in a surprise decision, Martin has decided to ONLY name Aarons in the starting side, with Tavernier on the bench. That's left fans puzzled over who will fill in for Jefte at left-back, should Aarons be deployed in his preferred right side. Advertisement Oscar Cortes looks the most likely option having been named alongside Aarons, Djiga and Manny Fernandez in the first four names on the team-sheet in their match-day graphic, following Liam Kelly who starts between the sticks. The Colombian could even be starring on the right side, with Aarons back at left-back. Rangers players look terrified and exposed under Russell Martin But some fans reckon it could be teenager Bailey Rice as well, despite him never featuring in that position for the Rangers first team. It will all be made a bit clearer when the game gets underway, but for the time being fans have raised their concerns on social media. One fan hit out: "WHO at left back?" Advertisement Another said: "Are we playing Cortes left back?" While someone else replied: "I think he'll be right-back and Aarons left-back, but I'm not sure." Suggesting it's Rice, another fan said: "I'm predicting Rice at left-back. It has to be him." Another agreed: "Looks like Baily Rice is retraining as a left-back then."
