North Korea's Kim Jong Un oversees air drills, urges military to intensify war preparations
Kim, who inspected anti-aircraft combat and air strike drills by North Korea's 1st Air Division on Thursday, called for 'all units in the entire military' to bring about 'a breakthrough in war preparation', KCNA reported.
Footage of the drills on North Korean state TV showed a MiG-29 jet launching a missile, which appeared to be a North Korean version of a Russia-developed mid- to long-range air-to-air missile, said Hong Min, North Korea analyst at the Korea Institute for National Unification.
So far this month, Kim has overseen a missile test, inspected tank and munitions plants, made a rare visit to the Russian embassy in Pyongyang reaffirming the country's alliance with Russia, and supervised tank firing drills and special operations unit training.
North Korea also slammed the US State Department for placing it on a list of countries that do not fully cooperate with US counterterrorism efforts. Pyongyang has been placed on the list every year since 1997, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said.
'The more the US provokes the DPRK with unnecessary and inefficient malicious acts, the further it will escalate the irreconcilable hostility between the DPRK and the US,' a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, using the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The designation was meant to offer local ethnic minority groups such as the Tibetans greater say over policy matters, including freedom of religious belief. But international human rights groups and exiles routinely describe China's rule in Tibet as 'oppressive', an accusation that Beijing rejects. Xi last flew to Tibet in July 2021 where he urged people there to 'follow the party' in a visit largely perceived by outside observers to signal the Communist Party's confidence that order had finally been established in a region with a long history of protest against Chinese rule. During a brief period following the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when China further opened its doors to the outside world, Tibet was rocked by protests by monks and nuns, and then a series of self-immolations. Prior to 2021, the last Chinese leader to visit Tibet was Jiang Zemin in 1990. More broadly, Tibet is a highly strategic region for China due to its border with India. Troops from both sides had clashed at their border over the years. Xi's arrival in Tibet coincided with a rare trip this week by China's top diplomat Wang Yi to India, where both countries pledged to rebuild ties damaged by a deadly 2020 border skirmish. Xi was accompanied by Wang Huning and Cai Qi, the party's fourth and fifth-ranked leaders. In 2015, the party sent the now retired Yu Zhengsheng, who held the equivalent rank of Wang at the time, to Tibet for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet autonomous region.

FB page apologises for linking Sabah minister to Zara case

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The administrator of a Facebook page named Sabahan News Online has apologised to Sabah minister Arifin Arif for linking him to the case involving Zara Qairina Mahathir, who died last month. In a Facebook post, the admin said it retracted every statement it had made against Arifin related to the case, adding that the state science, technology and innovation minister was a 'victim of misunderstanding all this while'. It also apologised for linking Sabah governor Musa Aman to the case through Arifin, who is Musa's son-in-law. 'We wholeheartedly apologise and will make this post a point of reference for the public so that all parties would understand (that Arifin is not linked to the case in any way). 'Every effort and attempt to link the governor and others to the case was a mistake and we deeply regret doing so,' it said. It also expressed hope that this would alleviate the unhappiness of netizens with the page for making the allegations. Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school's hostel in Papar, Sabah. She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu the following day. Her body was exhumed on Aug 9 to allow for a post-mortem amid allegations of bullying. This morning, five teenage girls claimed trial in the children's court in Kota Kinabalu to uttering abusive words against the victim which could have caused her distress.

Loss of interest main reason behind teachers' early retirement

(Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : A total of 19,179 primary and secondary school teachers opted for early retirement between 2022 and May this year, with most citing a loss of interest in teaching. Deputy education minister Wong Kah Woh told the Dewan Rakyat that 5,306 teachers retired early in 2022, followed by 6,394 in 2023, 5,082 in 2024, and 2,397 as of May 2025. Wong said a loss of interest in teaching was cited by 67.44% of teachers in their applications for optional early retirement. This was followed by family problems (17.43%), health problems (7.69%), workload (5.37%) and personal problems (2.08%). He said the ministry conducts permanent teacher recruitment twice a year, while the Education Service Commission keeps its teacher application system open year-round to speed up recruitment and placement. He was responding to a question from Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN–Masjid Tanah) on the number of teachers who chose early retirement between 2022 and 2024, and the measures taken by the ministry to address teacher shortages. Wong said the ministry had outlined seven measures aimed at reducing teachers' workload, including scrapping low-impact school events and appointing members of the public as examination invigilators. He also said the ministry had introduced teaching assistants at schools with more than 1,500 students to help reduce teachers' administrative workload. Wong said 282 schools had been assigned two teaching assistants, with plans to expand the programme to other schools.
