Lauren Bell says India contests stand England in good stead for World Cup

Under new head coach Charlotte Edwards, England completed a clean sweep against the West Indies before falling to defeat against India.
England were beaten 3-2 in the T20 series and 2-1 in the ODIs, but with the World Cup fast approaching, Bell insisted there is plenty to learn from this summer.
She told the PA news agency: 'We've obviously had two fairly different series this summer. We had the West Indies that everyone performed really well and India challenged us a little bit more.

'It's exciting seeing that we're going to come up against some of the best teams and I think situations like the India series we just had is great preparation really. You learn so much more when you play against top teams.
'It's really exciting where we're at as a team, where we're going and obviously we're working super hard. We've got a few things that everyone, I guess, is going to work on moving forwards to that World Cup.
'It's an exciting time to be part of this team.'
This year's World Cup takes place in India and Sri Lanka and England open their campaign on October 3 with a clash against South Africa in Bengaluru.
The tournament is England's first under Edwards, who has just completed her first summer in charge and Bell has enjoyed working with a familiar face.

'It's been great, I've worked with Lot for a number of years because she was down at Hampshire and the Southern Brave,' Bell added.
'She's been great, she's got this ethos of winning and performance-based selection, which obviously takes a bit of getting used to with a new coach and the way she goes about things.
'She's obviously got a vast amount of experience and a really successful start to her coaching.
'It's been great, the way she manages everyone and speaks to us is really exciting. It's really cool to be a part of what she's hopefully pushing this team to do and to succeed.'
England face a busy 12 month period with the 50-over World Cup and home games over the summer before the T20 World Cup starts next.
Bell is 'super excited' for a home World Cup next year (Steven Paston/PA)
Next year's tournament follows the 2022 European Championship and the upcoming Women's Rugby World Cup as another major women's sporting event being held on British soil.
Looking ahead to the T20 World Cup, Bell said: 'Super excited, I think any player wants to play at a home World Cup. I think it's so cool with family and friends around and hopefully (can) put women's cricket on a platform at home.
'It's so important bringing it to the home venues and getting them hopefully sold out and people being able to see the sport.
'The more we can get it accessible to people to watch, the more they'll be like 'this is pretty cool, I want to get involved' and start playing. It's such a massive opportunity for cricket in England.'

Inside Newcastle's transfer turmoil and the EIGHT players Eddie Howe's missed out on

Newcastle United have gone in for a number of targets as they look to kick on from last season but have been turned down time and time again in a frustrating summer To say Newcastle United have endured a frustrating summer would be an understatement. Qualifying for the Champions League will often make it easier for a team to convince transfer targets to sign, but that's been far from true for Eddie Howe's side. ‌ Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale have moved to St James' Park, but plenty of other players have opted to move elsewhere. Not only that, but last season's top scorer Alexander Isak could yet move on before the window shuts. ‌ "Why can't Newcastle get business done?" former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer asked when speaking to Betfair. "I don't know whether it's to do with the fact they don't have a Chief Executive or Sporting Director. They've known for months now that the Chief Executive was leaving so I'm pretty surprised that one hasn't been announced as yet. ‌ "The Sporting Director left a couple of months ago now and they've known that, so that's a big surprise that those spaces haven't been filled. Whether that has anything to do with Newcastle's lack of business and the number of players that have said no to them, I don't know. It's not a good look." There is still time for the club to make up for lost time, but a lot of targets have already chosen to continue their careers elsewhere. Here, Mirror Football takes a closer look at who said no to the Magpies. Dean Huijsen We'll begin at the very start of the window. Spanish centre-back Huijsen enjoyed a breakout season with Bournemouth, prompting Newcastle and a number of their Premier League rivals to explore a move. Unfortunately for them, Real Madrid were also keen. And that meant this was going to be a short saga with an obvious conclusion for a player with an eye on Spain's World Cup squad next summer. " It's the best day of my life. For me, it's a dream to be here, and I'm going to give everything for the team," the young defender said at his unveiling. "With regard to offers from other teams, for me, Real Madrid is the best club in the world, and there is no other team like it." ‌ Liam Delap A new striker was always going to be high on Newcastle's list regardless of what happens with Isak. The club lost Callum Wilson after five years, with the experienced striker later joining West Ham, and a younger model was pursued. Liam Delap was one of those contenders after an impressive season with relegated Ipswich. A £30million release clause meant Newcastle were always going to have rivals for his signature, and Chelsea won the race. ‌ "I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach," the England Under-21 star said. "It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies." Joao Pedro Here, as with Delap the promise of Champions League football wasn't enough. Chelsea could offer the same, along with Club World Cup football, and the Brazilian chose the Blues. ‌ "Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history,' the former Brighton star said. "They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win." Newcastle might be back in the Champions League, but some may feel other members of last season's top five are in better shape all around. Time will tell if they're right. Mohammed Kudus ‌ Newcastle completed a move for Elanga in mid-July, but only after failing to land Kudus. The Ghana international had looked set for a move away from West Ham since the start of the summer, and chose Tottenham. It's easy to see why the former Ajax man was an option, given his ability to play across the front line. Once again, though, it soon became clear Howe's team were up against it from the very start. "The most important part of why I came here is the project and how the manager sees I can develop under him," Kudus said upon joining Thomas Frank's side. "Where he's come from and seeing the amount of talent he's developed to become great players, it's a big sign of why I wanted to work under him as well." ‌ Bryan Mbeumo Versatile forwards were clearly the order of the day this summer, and you can hardly accuse Newcastle of not being focused. The issue for them is failing to convince so many of those targets that St James' Park is the place for them. Mbeumo was also eyed by Spurs and Manchester United when it became clear he might be leaving Brentford. The Cameroon star's former team-mate Yoane Wissa could yet end the window as a Newcastle player, but Mbeumo himself has moved to Old Trafford - saying that was always part of the plan. ‌ 'From the start, I wanted to join this massive club,' he said. 'Now I'm here, I'm just really happy. For me, it's the biggest club in the world. The fans are crazy, the stadium is amazing, and every player wants to play here.' Hugo Ekitike When it first looked as though Isak might join Liverpool, Newcastle stepped up their interest in French frontman Ekitike. Now, though, we could end the summer with Ekitike and Isak at Anfield. ‌ The former PSG frontman struggled to get a look in with Les Parisiens but thrived last term at Eintracht Frankfurt. Newcastle were ready to break the bank, but in the end it was Liverpool who won the race for the £69m star. 'I've been dreaming to come and play in the Premier League. And to play for Liverpool is a big, big good feeling for me," Ekitike said after joining the champions. "I just can't wait to start to play games and to win trophies." James Trafford ‌ The summer began with some uncertainty over Newcastle's starting keeper after Martin Dubravka and Nick Pope shared duties last term. Trafford long looked destined for a move to the North East, but there was a problem. The 22-year-old Cumbrian was fresh off promotion to the top flight with Burnley, but felt he had unfinished business at former club Manchester City. As soon as City activated a buy-back clause, there was only one possible outcome. 'I always dreamed that one day I would be able to come back to Manchester City," Trafford said upon his return. 'This is the place I call home – it's a truly special football club with fantastic people who make it such a unique place to work and play." ‌ Benjamin Sesko If you thought the impending start of the season might bring an end to Newcastle's transfer disappointment, it's time to guess again. Sesko became a realistic target once Arsenal turned to Viktor Gyokeres, but there was still another potential suitor. This time, once again, Manchester United stand in the Magpies' way. Ruben Amorim's side might not be able to offer European football, but that doesn't seem to matter. Both clubs have bid enough to tempt RB Leipzig to cash in on the Slovenian star - somewhere in the region of £70m - but we're expecting Sesko to announce sooner rather than later that Old Trafford is his preference. Watch: US politician mistakes Son Heung-min for an American

Son Heung-min was told he will get the support he needs to help the United States win the World Cup next year, as a Los Angeles councilwoman appeared to mistake the former Tottenham forward for an American. Son, who is a South Korea international, claimed he was 'here to win' as he was unveiled at new club Los Angeles FC after ending a decade-long stint at Spurs. However, confused councilwoman Heather Hunt told the forward that everyone in the city is expecting the US men's national team to win the World Cup next summer, which is being held across America, Mexico and Canada, and that they will help him achieve their dreams. 'When the World Cup comes, we are expecting a win here in LA for the USA,' Hunt, a LA council member, told Son on stage at LAFC's BMO Stadium. 'We are here to support you to get that done.' Son also met LA mayor Karen Bass and city officials amid chants and drumming from the supporters' group 3252 after completing his £20m move to the MLS. 'What can I say, dream come true. LA, what a city,' Son told reporters at his unveiling. Son revealed LAFC was not his initial preference, but credited the club's co-president and general manager John Thorrington with persuading him to make the switch. 'He just changed my mind, heart, he changed my brain. He showed me the destination where I should be and right now I'm here and I'm so, so excited,' said Son, who attended LAFC's 2-1 win over Tigres UANL on Tuesday night. 'I'm here to win, I will perform and I will definitely show you some exciting football, and we will definitely have success,' he said. The move is expected to resonate with LA's sizeable Korean community, with the team's stadium located just south of Koreatown. Son follows in the footsteps of other international stars who have joined LAFC, including Carlos Vela, Giorgio Chiellini, Olivier Giroud, and former Tottenham team-mates Gareth Bale and Hugo Lloris. Son, who joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, led the north London club to their first trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in May. The former Spurs captain made 454 appearances for the club and scored 173 goals, winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season. Reflecting on his departure from Tottenham, Son described the move as 'very emotional'. Tissues at the ready 😭 A final goodbye message from Sonny... — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 6, 2025 'I felt like I needed a new chapter, I needed a new challenge and I chose LAFC,' he said. 'I think you could say I'm old but I still have good physicality, good legs, and still have a good quality. 'Obviously I'm here to perform but I also want to give some advice to some young players for improvement. 'I can't wait... Let's do it together and win the trophy.' It was not immediately clear when Son will make his debut for the Black and Gold, who are currently sixth in the Western Conference and travel to face Chicago Fire on Saturday. LAFC's Thorrington called signing Son an 'historic' day for the club. 'Sonny is a world class talent, a global icon of football and we're thrilled that he has chosen to write the next chapter of his remarkable career with us here at LAFC,' he said. Son, capped 134 times by South Korea, joins LAFC after an emotional farewell to Spurs during a friendly against Newcastle United at Seoul World Cup Stadium. 'Sonny has given so much to this club, both on and off the pitch, and for that we are forever grateful,' Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said in a club statement. 'We wish him all the best for the future, and he will always be welcome back as a beloved and cherished member of our Spurs family.'

Here are the top Scottish transfer stories, rumours and gossip on Thursday morning, including the latest news from Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and the Scotland national team this morning. Oli McBurnie has joined Hull City on a free transfer. | Hull City AFC 16-cap Scotland man seals 'special' move Scotland international Oli McBurnie has cut his time with Spanish outfit Las Palmas short after being lured back to the British shores by EFL Championship outfit Hull City. The striker has signed a three-year contract, with the option of a further year, after the Tigers activated a clause that allowed him to leave the Gran Canaria club on a free transfer following their relegation from La Liga last season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Capped 16 times by Scotland, McBurnie was reported on the radar of former club Sheffield United, but opted to move to the MKM Stadium instead. 'I'm buzzing,' said McBurnie. 'It's been a long time coming. Everyone has worked hard to get to this point. Thank you to Jared (Dublin), the owner and the manager, for getting it done. Jared spoke to me at the end of last season. I was in Spain last year, and from the start, I said to Jared that for me to come back to England, it had to be something special. I needed to come back for something that excites me, and at the same time, is right for me and my family.' Dundee have opened talks with youngster Luke Graham over a new contract. Dundee sent recruitment warning Dundee head coach Steven Pressley had warned the club that they must avoid a repeat of this summer's "scramble" to add players to the squad. The Den's Park boss has lost key men Josh Mulligan and Lyle Cameron over the summer, with the pair joining Hibs and Rangers respectively, alongside another eight first-team players, forcing Pressley to overhaul the squad. "This can't happen again for us as a club," said Pressley. "Moving forward, we have to have a better process around this. We don't want to be in a position where every season we are scrambling trying to find players. We have got to be in a position where there is much more stability around the squad. It is difficult to create that, but we are trying. We have given out several two-to-three-year deals. I know everybody wants success now, but this is a big, big job and a real challenge, and we have to get this part right." Staying with Dundee, the club have opened talks with defender Luke Graham over a contract extension. The 21-year-old's current deal expires in the summer of 2027, and reports claim they will move to secure his future this summer. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Adam Forrester is close to joining St Johnstone this summer. | SNS Group Hearts exit agreed Hearts youngster Adam Forrester is set to complete a season-long loan move to St Johnstone, with head coach Derek McInnes willing to allow the full-back to leave the club temporarily this summer. The Saints are hoping to confirm the signing of the 20-year-old Tynecastle starlet before Friday night's league trip to Ross County, with the Edinburgh Evening News revealing a deal had been 'verbally agreed.' Forrester enjoyed a breakout season in Gorgie last season, making 25 league appearances for the club, though the signing of Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink means he is unlikely to get the regular first-team football he desires this coming season. Meanwhile, Hearts have confirmed that Alfie and Stanley Wilson have signed their first professional contracts with the club, with the pair joining brother James in moving into the full-time environment at Riccarton. Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz has been deemed a transfer 'mistake' by a former Ibrox favourite. | SNS Group Rangers 'reach agreement' Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz is closing in on an exit from the club, after reports claimed Besiktas were leading the race for the left-back's signature. The Turkish defender has been linked with a departure from Ibrox throughout the summer, and has subsequently not been involved in any of Russell Martin's matchday squads so far this season. Despite being out of favour at Rangers, a number of clubs on the continent are interested in a deal for the defender, who is almost certain to depart before the window shuts. One report even claimed the club had 'reached a full agreement' with Besiktas over a deal for the player, though that is believed to be premature. His time in Glasgow largely disrupted by injury, former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson believes the deal to bring him to the club was a 'mistake'. Speaking to IbroxNews, Ferguson said: 'He's never been one of my favourites. There were others in Scottish football at the time who could have done as good a job. He was touted with a move to Turkey within six months of arriving here. I don't know him personally, but he's another that needs moving on at what will be a loss.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Elsewhere, the club are reported to have held talks with Real Betis centre-half Nobel Mendy in the last 48 hours, and is hoping to fend off interest from Rayo Vallecano and Club Brugge to sign the 20-year-old, who is believed to be available for around £3.5million. Clement Bischoff is rumoured target for Celtic. | Brondby FC (Brondby TV) Celtic deal 'intensifies' Celtic are ready to rival English Premier League side Sunderland in the race to sign talented young winger Clement Bischoff, according to reports. The Danish youth international has caught the attention of a number of clubs this summer, and is valued at around £6.2million. The 19-year-old Brondby starlet enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Superliga last season, playing 29 times for the popular Danish outfit as they clinched a third-place finish, and Celtic are believed to view him as a potential option in the search for a winger this summer. The sale of Nicolas Kuhn to FC Como last month, coupled with Jota's ACL injury, has left head coach Brendan Rodgers desperate for reinforcements in his attacking arsenal, but he has been frustrated in his pursuit of both Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Jakob Breum. Bischoff is also reported to be interesting Crystal Palace this summer, with Sunderland also strongly linked throughout the window.
