Over 3,100 cases of cyber crime filed against goat farms in Ajmer
Ajmer: There are 3,160 cases of cyber crime registered throughout the country related to fraud sale of goats in name of goat farms in Ajmer. Victims have been duped of over Rs 2.7 crore by showing good quality and breed of goats in the name of different goat farms in Ajmer. The victims paid in advance through online transactions. Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in New Delhi transferred all 3,160 complaints to Rajasthan police, which asked police officials of Ajmer to verify the goat farms in Ajmer. Police have registered zero FIRs against those operating without registration and also froze bank accounts involved in this cyber crime. Hanuman Singh, deputy SP of Ajmer Cyber Police Station, issued a letter to all police stations in Ajmer asking them "to verify the registration of goat farms in their region and also verify their activities and register FIR if any irregularities are found," said an officer. He added, "In the name of goat farms situated in Ajmer, scammers put up advertisements or social feeds showing healthy goats of good breed and lure goat contractors across the country, by taking advance payments but failing to deliver the goods." Ajmer bakra mandi is famous for providing good breeds of goats, and during Bakra Eid, the goats are even exported to Dubai and other countries. The demand for Ajmer goats is also high in Mumbai, Gujarat, Hyderabad, and other cities. "The goats graze on different herbs on hills and are not confined within fences. Therefore, these goats are in demand," said Akhtar Hussein of bakra mandi, which is situated on Beawar Road. Sources said that due to the demand for Ajmer goats, many goat farms have come up on Sikar Road, Pushkar Road, and other outskirts of Ajmer. "Some names of farms were provided by Delhi cyber cell, including names of the owners, and therefore we are verifying their records," said an officer. He said that Ajmer SP Vandita Rana also directed closure of goat farms operating illegally and involved in cyber crime. "These 3,160 complaints about duping in the name of Ajmer goats are registered on the 1930 number of the cyber crime complaint centre, and there may be more victims who are unable to register complaint," said a goat farmer. Injured by arrow, wild jumbo tracked to Goalpara forest
1 2 Guwahati: A wild elephant, which had been injured by a stray arrow in Rangjuli area of lower Assam's Goalpara district, was finally tracked to the nearby Deoshila reserve forest by officials on Sunday evening. Deploying drones and foot patrols, while the forest officials located the limping elephant, they could not tranquillize it since forest department norms prevent tranquillization of animals after dark. Goalpara DFO Tejas Mariswamy said, "The elephant was finally tracked after several hours of searching. However, we could not tranquillize it since it was beyond 6 pm. Tomorrow, early morning, it will be tranquilized for treatment." While animal lovers and enthusiasts condemned the act of targeting wild elephants with bows and arrows, such occurrences are often reported from different parts of the state, including Goalpara, where elephants reportedly target the paddy cultivation. Mariswamy said the incident took place in an area which has had a history of man-elephant conflicts. According to forest officials, some local villagers might have chased the elephant to 'save their paddy', which was reportedly roaming near a paddy field. Goalpara has been one of the worst man-elephant conflict hit districts, where elephants have been electrocuted to prevent their entry into paddy fields. On the other hand, there have been numerous instances where wild elephants have killed villagers during sudden encounters in forest areas and sometimes in residential areas. This year, at least three elephants have died, while 12 human casualties have been reported from Goalpara. Meanwhile, specialist veterinary doctors from Manas National Park have been rushed to Goalpara to treat the elephant. "Elephants usually come out in the morning. It will probably be a convenient time for tranquilizing, but the elephant should be at a minimum distance of around 30 metres from the shooter. There are challenges to it as the elephant was moving fast, when it was last seen," said renowned elephant veterinarian and Padma Shri awardee Kushal Konwar Sarma.
