West end outage caused by loss of power from provincial grid: Hydro Ottawa
Hydro Ottawa says thousands of people in Ottawa's west end briefly lost power Sunday afternoon.
In a post on X at 2:10 p.m., the utility said it was investigating an outage affecting 30,485 customers.
About 20 minutes later, Hydro Ottawa said it had restored the electricity. The outage was caused by a loss of power from the provincial grid, the utility says.
The utility's outage map showed showed it covering a large area near Highway 417 including the neighbourhoods of Westboro, Highland Park, Carlingwood, Lincoln Heights, Britannia and Bayshore.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in Ottawa. Environment Canada warns outages are 'likely' as storms move across the region on Sunday afternoon.

ECCC issued a special weather statement for the southeast. Strong and gusting northeast winds in the afternoon and evening could send wildfire smoke from Nopiming Provincial Park elsewhere in the southeast. Winnipeg is not under the alert. Temperatures will be slightly warmer on Wednesday in Winnipeg and across Manitoba, with daytime highs forecast to reach the low 20s. Hotter July highs won't return to Winnipeg until the weekend.

Wildfire on Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula destroys unknown number of cabins

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian Wyld CHANCE HARBOUR — Newfoundland and Labrador's forest fire duty officer says a wildfire on the Bonavista Peninsula has destroyed an unknown number of cabins in the area. Mark Lawlor says the fire began Monday in a wooded area near Jamestown, N.L., and is estimated to be about 12.5 square kilometres in size. Lawlor says there was no evacuation order, but adds that emergency officials have asked cabin owners to leave and stay away. Lawlor says the nearby village of Jamestown is not currently in danger, because the fire is moving northeast away from the community. While the fire remains out of control, Lawlor says high humidity levels are slowing its growth. The fire duty officer says firefighters are attacking the blaze with help from helicopters and an air tanker dumping water.
