The Copa Libertadores is the biggest club competition in South America and it returns to action this week. Domestic leagues have kicked off across the continent but now it is time for the most exciting championship of all to come to the party.
The Copa Libertadores pits the strongest teams from each South American soccer league against each other every year and this usually results in epic battles, unrivalled passion and some of the most dramatic soccer scenes on the planet.

Brazilian teams have won seven of the last eight Copa Libertadores titles, and that includes the last six trophies in a row. Why would anything change this year? The truth is that as well as being the biggest nation and economy in South America, private investment in Brazilian soccer clubs over the last four or five years has taken their dominance to the next level.
For better or worse this has meant that just once in the last eight years has a Brazilian side not been present in the Copa Libertadores final. The last four champions have all been different winners from Brazil, including last season when Botafogo won its first ever championship.
This year Flamengo and Palmeiras are favorites for the domestic Brazilian titles and the Copa Libertadores, but Botafogo will have its say in the race too. Internacional and
São Paulo are also amongst the top teams and so it wouldn't be a shock for this title to be brought straight back home to Brazil.

Aside from the Brazilian teams, it's usually clubs from Argentina that come the closest to Copa Libertadores success. Teams from Argentina have managed to reach four of the last eight finals but only in 2018 could River Plate lift the trophy, in an all-Argentinian final against fierce rivals Boca Juniors.
This year the likes of River Plate and Racing Club are the most likely sides to bring the trophy back to Argentina instead of Brazil. Racing Club won the Copa Sudamericana last season, and they defeated Botafogo in this season's 'Recopa' just a few weeks ago. A statement victory that helps to prove that, with a bit of luck, Racing can go all the way.
River Plate has the advantage of playing at the biggest stadium in South America in front of a fearsome home crowd. The club boasts an excellent and well mixed squad; full of young talent and some experienced veterans. Marcelo Gallardo, the River Plate coach, is in his second spell with the club. The first time around he led River Plate to two Copa Libertadores titles so his expertise is another reason why River is in with a chance.

A lot of the magic of the Copa Libertadores comes in the madness of the group stages. Bolivian teams enjoy the home advantage of altitude, and those in the very north of the continent try to use tropical heat to tire out their opponents from the south of the continent. Tempers flare and stadiums erupt in this incredible tournament, that never ceases to entertain.
Last season Peñarol of Uruguay knocked out Flamengo, representatives of six different nations made the knockout stages and an epic final saw a super early red card and a first-time tournament winner in Botafogo. Pre-match firework displays went viral across the globe and goals, cards and penalty shoot-outs were the order of the day. What will shock us in the Copa Libertadores this season?

Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland prediction, pick, start time for UFC 316

Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland prediction, pick, start time for UFC 316 All-action welterweights Vicente Luque and Kevin Holland clash in the UFC 316 main card opener. How long will it last? Vicente Luque and Kevin Holland meet Saturday in the main card opener of UFC 316 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 3-2 UFC main cards, 2025: 49-41-1 Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland UFC 316 preview Luque (23-10-1 MMA, 16-6 UFC) will look to win back-to-back UFC fights for the first time since 2021. The 33-year-old welterweight has gone 2-3 over his last five, but enters the UFC 316 main card opener on the heels of a bonus-earning submission of Themba Gorimbo in December. ... Holland (27-13 MMA, 14-10 UFC) finds himself in a similar position as his opponent. He enters on the heels of a unanimous decision win over Gunnar Nelson in March, and will be looking for his first back-to-back win since 2023. The 32-year-old is much more active than Luque, but has struggled to maintain winning momentum. Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland UFC 316 expert pick, prediction The paid portion of the card kicks off with a welterweight showdown between Luque and Holland. Despite a brain bleed threatening the career of Luque after his war with Geoff Neal, the Brazilian action fighter has steadily been trying to rekindle the form that brought him to prominence. And though Luque is coming off a vintage-style win over Themba Gorimbo last December, it's still hard to know exactly where Luque is, given how long that fight lasted. Holland may seem like the obvious pick at first glance, but we can't forget the inconsistencies he traditionally comes with as well. Whether Holland is having a nip-and-tuck affair with the skeleton of Santiago Ponzinibbio or is outright refusing win conditions against a retirement home-level Stephen Thompson, "Trail Blazer" can be tough to trust – particularly as a heavy favorite. Don't get me wrong: Holland winning this via some straight punches down the pike is the most probable outcome this Saturday. However, with Luque being further and further along from his head injury and his recent trends of grappling, I find myself taking a semi-reluctant shot on Luque to score the upset. The pick is Luque by submission in Round 1. Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland UFC 316 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the American fighter, listing Holland -265 and Luque +210 via FanDuel. Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland UFC 316 start time, how to watch As the main card opener, Luque and Holland are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 9:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Inter Milan complete the signing of Brazilian forward Luis Henrique

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Luis Henrique from Marseille, as confirmed by the club. Henrique is Inter's second signing of the summer following Croatian midfielder Petar Sucic's arrival from Dinamo Zagreb days earlier. Advertisement The Italian giants fought off competition from German giants Bayern Munich to secure the services of Henrique, who will reportedly pen a new five-year contract. The Nerazzurri will pay a transfer fee of €25 million, and the Brazilian is set to earn around €2.5 million per season at San Siro. Les Minots signed Henrique from Botafogo in 2020, and he steadily grew as one of their key players in the following years. He enjoyed his most productive campaign last season, tallying nine goals and ten assists in all competitions to help Roberto De Zerbi's side qualify for the Champions League. De Zerbi benefited largely from Henrique's versatility last season. Primarily a winger, the 23-year-old was deployed as a right wing-back whenever Marseille played in a back-three system. Advertisement Henrique is known for his explosive pace, playmaking abilities, finishing and dribbling flair. He is also a menacing presence in the final third and can progress the ball from deep effectively. The Brazilian can provide competition for Denzel Dumfries at the right-wing back position. He can also be used as a Mezalla or back-up to striker duo Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez. Inter are expected to announce Cristian Chivu as their new head coach soon, following Simone Inzaghi's departure to Al-Hilal. The Nerazzurri are also looking to strengthen their forward line following the underwhelming performances of Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic last season. Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund is their priority target, with Inter in continuous contact with the Red Devils and the player's entourage.
