Former South Korea president Yoon indicted again as martial law investigation continues

Arab News5 days ago
SEOUL: South Korea's jailed ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol was indicted on additional charges on Saturday as a special prosecutor continues investigating him for his short-lived declaration of martial law in December.
The new charges include obstruction of the exercise of others' rights by abuse of authority, ordering the deletion of records and blocking the execution of arrest warrants, the prosecutor's office said in a briefing.
Yoon has been on trial on charges of insurrection, which is punishable by death or life imprisonment, facing additional charges since the special prosecutor was appointed in June to take over the cases against him.
Yoon has denied all wrongdoing. His lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the new charges.
The impeached and deposed former leader has been jailed at Seoul Detention Center since earlier this month, and a court earlier this week rejected his request to be freed from detention.

We will not give up this right of the Iranian people,' Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

Her plan was discovered after she sought to acquire a rocket-propelled grenade to carry out the assassination, the prosecutor's office at the Tel Aviv district court wrote in the indictment.

Pakistan Navy launches locally designed boat with long-range, semi-automatic guns

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched a locally designed boat with long-range, semi-automatic guns to enhance its operational effectiveness in maritime missions, the navy said in a statement on Wednesday. PNS SAHIWAL has been indigenously designed by the Platform Design Wing (PDW) of the Pakistan Navy and is under construction at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW). The launching ceremony was held at the KS&EW with senior naval officials, including Vice Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, in attendance. 'This state-of-the-art vessel will be equipped with high-performance, long-range semi-automatic guns, enhancing its operational effectiveness in maritime missions,' the navy said. Bilgrami highlighted that the gun boat will be equipped to perform diverse maritime security tasks. He praised the joint efforts of the PDW and KS&EW in promoting the navy's indigenization policy. 'He also stated that Pakistan Navy is considering additional production of Gun Boats,' the navy said. 'It would eventually boost both indigenization process and uplift of KS&EW.'
