Former Rangers player accused of killing woman in pick-up truck crash
Kyle Hutton, 34, allegedly struck Victoria Cairns, 40, on Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, on November 2 last year.
Hutton – who played for the Ibrox club between 2010 and 2015 – is claimed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Court papers state Hutton drove at excessive speed and failed to make proper observations of the road ahead.
It is alleged that the midfielder failed to react to Ms Cairns on the road ahead.
The charge says Hutton collided his Mitsubishi L200 with the woman who died at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital four days later.
Hutton faces another allegation that he failed to co-operate at the scene with a preliminary breath test and failed to provide two specimens of breath at a police station.
Hutton made no plea on Wednesday at a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he was charged with causing Ms Cairns' death by dangerous driving.
Hutton, of Rutherglen, was granted bail by Sheriff Allan Mckay.
Hutton – who currently plays for junior outfit Gartcairn – also starred for clubs such as St Mirren, Queen of the South and Dumbarton.

Although his four-year spell at Ibrox was often blighted by injury, the former Leeds and Anderlecht frontman played an integral role as the Gers won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021. He also won both domestic cup honours with the Light Blues and scored on the club's run to the Europa League Final in 2022. Roofe spent several months as a free agent before being snapped up by Derby County in February. Although he was released at the end of the season, the striker has continued to train with the Rams this summer and play in their pre-season matches. He could yet sign a new deal ahead of the new season. But in a rather shocking turn of events, Roofe has shared an absolutely sickening message he's received on social media. He shared the disturbing message to his Instagram post from an anonymous account who's image is just a glass of beer. The horrific post contains death threats. It says: "Hi IDIOT. I wish you long and brutal death in huge pains m***********. 4 Kemar Roofe shared the despicable abuse he'd received Credit: INSTAGRAM "Till the end of your f****** life you will the biggest idiot ever. "Die, die, die, you and all your f****** family. "Slavia Prague, do you remember, you f****** b******????? "Karma will find you.... m***********." Roofe played in Rangers' Europa League clash with Slavia Prague back in 2021. Although the twisted punter doesn't detail any specific incident, it's likely it relates to the former Rangers man's sending-off during the second leg of the tie. Roofe was one of two Gers players to be shown a red card in a 2-0 defeat at Ibrox that saw the Light Blues exit 3-1 on aggregate. He was dismissed on 61 minutes after catching the Czech club's goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar flush in the face with his boot when challenging for a high ball. Kolar has continued to wear a head guard during matches ever since the clash. Conor McGregor LOSES appeal over Nikita Hand civil rape case ruling after hairdresser awarded €248k in damages
Ms Hand was embraced by her supporters in court after the judgment was delivered DISGRACED Conor McGregor today LOST his appeal over his civil rape case after he attacked a woman in a hotel. The Irish mixed martial arts fighter, 36, was accused of "brutally raping and battering" Nikita Hand at a hotel penthouse in Dublin in December 2018. Ms Hand, 35, successfully sued McGregor in a civil court over an incident in which he was alleged to have "brutally raped and battered" her in the penthouse of the Beacon Hotel in Sandyford. During a three-week case at the High Court last November, the fighter told the court the pair had 'consensual' sex. A jury of eight women and four men found him civilly liable for assault and Ms Hand was awarded €248,603.60 in damages. Advertisement McGregor was also ordered to pay about €1.3 million in legal costs following November's trial. The fighter then launched an appeal on the basis of five grounds, intending to introduce fresh evidence to the court. He had provided affidavits by Samantha O'Reilly and her partner Steven Cummins, former neighbours of Ms Hand when she lived in Drimnagh, to the Court of Appeal. Samantha O'Reilly said she had witnessed a physical row between Ms Hand and her then-partner at about the same time of the incident at the Beacon hotel. Advertisement Ms Hand denied any altercation with her former partner and the court heard she characterised the claims from Ms O'Reilly and Ms O'Reilly's partner Steven Cummins as 'lies'. Earlier this month, McGregor's legal team dramatically withdrew that ground of appeal, saying it would no longer be relying on the material. The appeal continued on other grounds. This was that his garda interviews with "no comment" answers should not have been admitted into evidence and that the jury was asked to deliberate on an "assault" rather than "sexual assault". Advertisement HAND 'RETRAUMATISED' BY APPEAL Speaking outside court this afternoon, Ms Hand said the appeal had "retraumatised" her but she can finally "move on" following the judges' verdict today. She said: "I want to begin by thanking my legal team, the rape crisis centre and the three judges who delivered the decision today. "I'm also deeply grateful for everyone who supported me, those who believed in me and stood by my side throughout this long and painful journey. "This appeal has retraumatised me over and over again. Being forced to relive what happened has had a huge impact on me. Advertisement "To every survivor out there, I know how hard it is but please don't be silenced. You deserve to be heard. You also deserve justice. "Today I can finally move on and try to heal." REASONS FOR APPEAL DISMISSAL Meanwhile, McGregor's co-defendant has also lost his appeal against the trial judge's decision not to award him his legal costs. During the same trial in November, the jury did not find James Lawrence had assaulted Ms Hand at the hotel. Advertisement However, the trial judge decided that Ms Hand would not have to pay Mr Lawrence's costs. His legal team challenged whether that decision was correct and reasonable, arguing that Ms Hand should have to pay as the jury did not find he had assaulted her. Delivering their judgment on Thursday, the three judges of the court - Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy, Mr Justice Brian O'Moore and Mr Justice Patrick MacGrath - agreed to dismiss both appeals in their entirety. Reading out the judgment on behalf of the three-judge panel, Mr Justice O'Moore summarised the grounds for appeal before explaining the Court of Appeal's reasons for dismissing all five grounds. Former Rangers star Colin Hendry admits harassing ex-partner
The 59-year-old ex-central defender, who helped Blackburn win the Premier League title and captained Scotland at the 1998 World Cup, was sentenced at Preston Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. Hendry had admitted harassment of his former partner over a period of six months after their relationship ended. Natasha Clark, senior crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service North West, said: 'Colin Hendry harassed a former partner for over six months after their relationship ended after she stopped returning his calls. 'He ignored her wishes and breached boundaries she put in place, using multiple different platforms to contact her. 'Hendry's behaviour was intimidating and persistent, causing the victim immense distress, but despite this he initially refused to accept it was harassment. 'This outcome is a clear indication that the CPS will not hesitate to prosecute anyone guilty of harassment, whether this is in person or online.' When his calls went unanswered, he turned to other means including dozens of emails and messaging her on LinkedIn. After her saying she no longer wanted any kind of relationship with him, Hendry consistently attempted to contact her, showing up to her house with unwanted gifts and flowers on several occasions. The victim reported Hendry to the police, saying she felt depressed and anxious because of his behaviour. She said she was unable to leave the house without fearing an unannounced visit from him. Lancashire Police contacted Hendry to warn him about his behaviour, telling him to stop all communications to the ex-partner which were unwanted. While Hendry admitted to his conduct, he tried to deny it was harassment, claiming he never received a written warning from police so continued to contact her and that he was simply concerned for the affected person and her dog. He later admitted one count of harassment without violence. Hendry started his football career with Dundee before moving to Blackburn in 1987 and then on to Manchester City two years later. He rejoined Rovers for a second stint in 1991 and was a key part of the title-winning team four years later, before spending 18 months in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers towards the end of the 1990s.
