Sebi issues guidelines for MIIs to review penalty waiver requests
Under the new guidelines, if the action was taken by the Internal Committee (IC) or based on a pre-approved policy of the MII, then the Member Committee (MC) will still handle the review, appeal, or waiver requests, Sebi said in its circular.
If the action was taken by the MC itself, such requests will now be handled by a new mechanism formed by the governing board of the MII.
This new body will include public interest directors and/or independent external professionals, who are not part of the MC.
The governing board are also required to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling such cases. If members or participants are not satisfied with the outcome of this process, they are free to approach the appropriate legal authorities as per the applicable laws.
Under the current guideline, any request for review, appeal, or waiver of a penalty needs to be presented to the Member Committee (MC) of the concerned MII.
These provisions will come into effect 45 days from the date of this circular. PTI SP SHW

Passenger vehicle dispatches dip marginally in July on muted demand
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) Passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealers in the domestic market declined marginally year-on-year in July, hit by muted demand, industry body SIAM said on Thursday. Passenger vehicle wholesales stood at 3,41,510 units in July 2024. 'All vehicle segments posted stable performance in July 2025, though overall sentiments in the passenger vehicles segment have remained subdued," Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director General Rajesh Menon said in a statement. Two-wheeler dispatches rose 9 per cent year-on-year to 15,67,267 units last month from 14,41,694 units in the year-ago period. Scooter sales stood at 6,43,169 units last month, an increase of 16 per cent as compared with 5,53,642 units in July 2024, SIAM said. Motorcycle dispatches to dealers rose 5 per cent year-on-year to 8,90,107 units in July. Mopeds saw a dip of 9 per cent year-on-year to 33,991 units last month, as against the same period last year. Three-wheeler dispatches to dealers saw an increase of 17.5 per cent year-on-year to 69,403 units in July as compared with 59,073 units in the year-ago period. 'With the advent of the festive season beginning with Onam festivities in the latter part of August, the Indian auto industry remains cautiously optimistic for the demand momentum to pick up in the coming months," Menon noted. Bengaluru devotees donate ₹1 crore, diamond ornament worth ₹25 lakh to Tirupati
A Bengaluru-based devotee made a generous offering of ₹1 crore to the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust, which is administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). The TTD Executive Officer thanked devotees for their generous contributions(PTI) On Wednesday, Kalyan Raman Krishnamurthy visited the Tirumala temple with his family, offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara, and handed over the donation in the form of a demand draft to TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary, Times of India reported. In a separate act of devotion, another Bengaluru resident, KM Srinivasa Murthy, donated a diamond-studded golden Lakshmi Pathakam valued at ₹25 lakh to the TTD. The TTD Executive Officer thanked both devotees for their generous contributions, which will support the temple's charitable and spiritual initiatives, the report further added. (Also Read: Bengaluru's new Hebbal flyover loop opens for trial, traffic police seek public feedback) TTD to adopt AI and facial recognition In May, shortly after announcing plans to deploy anti-drone technology to boost security at the Tirumala temple, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board revealed its intention to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and facial recognition systems to streamline pilgrim management and improve the overall darshan experience. TTD Executive Officer J Syamala Rao had stated that these advanced technologies would help verify genuine pilgrims, prevent impersonation and fraudulent bookings, and ease operations such as access control, accommodation, and other logistical aspects of the pilgrimage. 'TTD envisioned adopting the latest technological solutions available in the market, including Artificial Intelligence, to improve the overall pilgrimage,' Rao said in an official statement. Under this initiative, time-slotted darshan tokens will be issued to pilgrims, using facial recognition to capture and store their biometric data. According to a report by PTI, once a pilgrim's image is captured, it will be cross-referenced with data from the past 30 days or against a database of about 10 lakh images to eliminate duplicate bookings and ensure better access for more devotees.
