LOS ANGELES − California fast-food staple In-N-Out announced that it will close its office in Irvine as the company is set to split its corporate workforce between California and Tennessee.
In-N-Out said Monday that many of its California corporate employees will move from Irvine in Orange County to an office in the Los Angeles-area city of Baldwin Park, where the company was founded in 1948. The company had been in the Irvine office since 1994.
The move to the Baldwin Park office, about 40 miles northwest of the Irvine offices and 1 mile from the first restaurant opened by Harry and Esther Snyder, is expected to be complete by the end of 2029.
"I know my family would be in support of this move because it brings our In-N-Out family back together in a way that helps us better serve our customers, who are the most important priority,' Lynsi Snyder, owner and president of In-N-Out, said in a statement.
Company on track to open Tennessee headquarters
The company said that after the Irvine office's closure, corporate employees will be stationed either at the Baldwin Park office or at an office in the Nashville area. The Nashville office is on track to open in 2026, the company said.
The office is the centerpiece of a continued expansion for the home of animal-style burgers and fries, as Snyder told a Nashville Business Journal event earlier this month that the restaurant is considering opening 35 locations in Tennessee.
Five locations have been confirmed in the Nashville area so far, according to the Tennessean − a part of the USA TODAY Network.
In-N-Out has expanded its footprint beyond its California routes in recent years, opening stores in Colorado, Texas and Idaho.

San Francisco ICE protests prompt Waymo to curtail robotaxi service

Autonomous vehicle firm Waymo said it has curtailed its robotaxi service in San Francisco following immigration enforcement protests in the city's Financial District Sunday evening, which led to one of its vehicles being vandalized. Protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in San Francisco turned violent, with buildings being vandalized along with police and Muni vehicles. A Waymo vehicle was also covered with graffiti. A spokesperson for Waymo, owned by Google parent Alphabet, said the company was still operating and serving riders in the city but would be limiting trips in certain areas where protesters may be gathering "out of an abundance of caution." Waymo also suspended service to downtown Los Angeles after several vehicles were set on fire during the ICE protests in that city. The company said it was still operating in other parts of Los Angeles. "We do not believe our vehicles were intentionally targeted, but rather happened to be present during the protests," a spokesperson told CBS News. Aside from San Francisco and Los Angeles, the company operates its robotaxi service in Mountain View, where the company is headquartered, along with Daly City, Los Altos, Palo Alto, parts of Sunnyvale, and Austin, Texas. Waymo has also gotten the green light to begin operating in San Jose and has begun mapping roadways around San Francisco International Airport ahead of possible service to SFO. The company says it also has plans to expand to Atlanta, Miami, and Tokyo.

California Pitches Emergency Loans for LA, Local Transit Systems

California lawmakers proposed a state-run emergency loan program for local governments around Los Angeles as well as Bay Area transit agencies that have struggled to regain ridership. The lending program would allow LA-area governments to borrow as much as $1 billion over the next two fiscal years, as the localities recover from January's historic wildfires. Transit agencies that serve residents in and around San Francisco would be able to borrow as much as $750 million. The initiative was proposed as part of a budget plan released Monday by lawmakers in the state senate and assembly.
