Bumrah Backs Indian Fielders, Says 'Nobody Is Dropping Catches Purposely'

Indian players dropped at least half a dozen catches in England's first innings, and the hosts batters made the most of the reprieves.
Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has come out in support of Indian players after they faced sharp criticism from fans and experts of the game for their poor performance on the field during England's first innings. Indian players dropped at least half a dozen catches on Saturday and Sunday combined to give multiple chances to England batters, and they made India pay as well for that.
When asked about India's poor fielding in the ongoing first Test against England at Headingley, Bumrah, during the post-day conference, said that no player is dropping the catches purposely.
'Nobody is dropping catches purposely—it's part & parcel of the game. People will learn from this experience," Bumrah said.
Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped at least three catches in the first innings for India, and Ravindra Jadeja also dropped a simple catch to give Ben Duckett.
Bumrah on fire
Bumrah picked up five wickets for India in the first innings of the Leeds Test. He finished with figures of 5 for 83 in 24.4 overs, and his fifer in the first innings helped him break multiple bowling records.
He became the first Asian bowler to take 150 Test wickets in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries and also equalled R. Ashwin's record of most five-wicket hauls in the WTC. Ashwin played 41 WTC matches for India and picked up 11 fifers, whereas Bumrah has 11 five-wicket hauls to his name in just 36 matches.
In addition, Bumrah also became the first Indian bowler to take three five-wicket hauls in England, and he also equalled Kapil Dev's record of 12 five-wicket hauls for India in Test matches played away from home.
For India, apart from Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna picked up three wickets on Sunday, and two English batters were sent back to the pavilion by Mohammed Siraj.
Ollie Pope top-scored for England in the first innings, and Harry Brook slammed 99 runs from 112 balls. The right-handed batter was unlucky to miss out on a deserving hundred. He became only the second English batter after Marcus Trescothick to get out on 99 in Test cricket against India.

At this moment, I am trying to assess the wicket, and the batter. I am not thinking about how many games I am going to play.' The constant chatter about his career ending because of injuries also doesn't bother him. 'It was once said that I can't play cricket at all. Then it became six months, eight months. But it's been more than 10 years now in internationals and 12 to 13 years of IPL. Still people are saying 'I will go'. People can keep saying, but I am going nowhere. I will keep playing until god allows me to and try taking Indian cricket forward.'
