The work of opening the road by machines is going on a war footing." Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government confirmed the evacuation of 566 people till noon today from Dharali and Harsil in the Uttarakashi district, where massive flash floods disrupted normal life. The Indian Army is using dog squads, drones, and ground-penetrating radar for search and rescue operations in the area. Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth visited Uttarkashi to oversee the ongoing rescue and relief measures. At Uttarakashi, the DGP inspected the site of incident and also took stock of the rescue operations. Upon landing at the Matli helipad, the DGP left for Harsil after meeting the CM. He reviewed the rescue operations by holding a meeting with the police officers in Matli, and gave necessary instructions to everyone to speed up the relief and rescue operations. Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials from key rescue and security agencies to take stock of ongoing relief and rescue operations in the rain-affected Uttarkashi district.

Confirmed: Dharali mudslide destroys 70% of buildings in hardest-hit area
At least 128 buildings in the mudslide-affected parts of the tourist village of Dharali in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district have been either completely buried or swept away, India Today can confirm after analysing three sets of satellite data. The assessment is based on high-resolution optical satellite imagery provided by US-based Maxar Technologies and ISRO. Credit: Maxar Technologies An independent visual analysis of post-disaster satellite imagery by India Today's Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) team established that the roofs of only 54 out of the roughly 182 buildings were still intact as of Friday, August analysis covers only parts of Dharali village where the mudslide settled in a fan-shaped pattern – between the foothills of Dharali mountains and the Bhagirathi river. Uttar Pradesh: 5 killed as tree falls on moving bus in Barabanki district
Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 8 (ANI): Monsoon fury has led to a mishap in Barabanki district as atleast five passengers were killed when a huge fig tree suddenly fell on a roadways bus at Rajabazar near Harakh on the Barabanki-Haidergarh road on Friday in the wake of heavy rainfall. Two passengers are seriously injured. There were about 60 passengers in the bus, the District Magistrate Barabanki Awadhesh Kumar said, 'Today in between 10 and 10.30 am in Harakh a roadways bus in which 60 passengers were travelling, on that a tree fell due to heavy rains. 5 people were killed in the accident. Two people have been injured including a woman. The woman has received an injury in head but she is out of danger. Among the five killed, only one has been identified till now."According to the information, the bus of the Transport Corporation left for Haidergarh from Barabanki bus stop at around 10:30 am. Due to heavy rains, the fig tree on the roadside suddenly got uprooted and fell on the bus. The roof of the bus was completely damaged due to the weight of the tree, and many passengers were buried under soon as the accident was reported, the district administration, police and rescue teams reached the spot. District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi visited the spot and monitored the relief and rescue operations. The injured were immediately sent to the trauma centre of the district hospital, while arrangements were made to take the remaining passengers to their destination after first Kumar said that the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the district headquarters for postmortem. 'The administration is identifying the bodies and informing the relatives. The treatment of the seriously injured passenger is going on in the district hospital. The relief and rescue team cleared the road by removing the damaged tree, traffic has become smooth again," said. District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi said that the remaining 55 passengers are safe and have been sent to their destination. The families of the deceased will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each by the Transport Corporation. (ANI)
