Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann takes over as Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Command
Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann took over as Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command, Indian Air Force on Sunday.
The Air Marshal is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF on December 16, 1989. He has flown over 3,000 hours primarily on various types of fighter aircraft, said a statement.
A pilot Attack Instructor in his operational career, Air Marshal Mann has commanded a fighter squadron, and has been Chief Operations Officer of a forward base and Air Officer Commanding of a premium fighter base.
The IAF said he has also held various important appointments at Air Headquarters and Command Headquarters.
The Air Officer directed Joint Military Training exercises with the Republic of Singapore Air Force in 2017 and the USAF in 2018.
Air Marshal Mann held the appointments of Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration and Air Defence Commander of Central Air Command. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College and Royal College of Defence Studies, London (UK).
Prior to taking over as Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command, Indian Air Force, he was Director General (Weapon Systems) at Air Headquarters. The Air Officer is a recipient of the Presidential awards 'Ati Vishist Seva Medal' and 'Vayu Sena Medal'.
Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry said in a statement that ships from the Spanish Navy and the Italian Navy operating under EUNAVFOR engaged in a Table Top Exercise in Mumbai.
Both ships presently operate under the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR). The visit is significant, being the first such visit to India conducted under the aegis of the European Union.
It is a follow-up to the discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and EU President Ursula von der Leyen, highlighting their shared commitment towards international peace and security.
The exercise at sea saw participation by ESPS Reina Sofia and ITS Antonio Marceglia from EUNAVFOR and ships and aircraft from the Indian Navy, the statement said.
The complex tactical exercises were aimed at enhancing the interoperability between the two sides and will enable seamless operations when deployed for combating non-traditional threats in the Indian Ocean Region, it said.

Compact and lightweight, Ice Breaker is suitable for jet fighters, light attack aircraft, and helicopters as well as small maritime vessels and ground vehicles.' The Ice Breaker uses a highly advanced electro-optical seeker that can detect targets in all weather conditions and it is equipped with artificial intelligence that helps it recognize targets and ensures it only engages hostile ones, thus keeping a check on collateral damage. The Ice Breaker flies at incredibly low level, almost touching the ground. Its design makes it very hard to detect. Thus it just zooms past even the most sophisticated air defenses. The Ice Breaker is very compact and lightweight, under 400 kg and one of its features includes smart engagement as it can work in a synchronized attack with multiple missiles which boosts its ability to penetrate well-defended targets.

The missile weighs around 510 kilograms and is more than 4 meters long. It is equipped with a 60-kilogram warhead. The R-37M features a special navigation system that allows the missile to change targets mid-flight. The R-37M is a long-range air-to-air missile designed to destroy enemy fighter jets and drones from a distance. It is specifically designed to target enemy AWACS, tanker aircraft, and other support aircraft. This missile is a new version of the older R-33 missile. Its most significant feature is that it can attack without seeing the enemy. This allows fighter jets to launch attacks while remaining outside the enemy's strike capability. The R-37M's range, speed, and guidance system have been enhanced further. This missile is equipped with a rocket booster that can be removed if necessary. In the 45-second clip, shared by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on X, the unidentified person is seen clinging to the upper ropes of what looks like a broken bridge. At least nine people have died since May 30 in rain-related incidents and landslides in multiple districts of the state. In East Kameng, seven people, including two women and two children, were killed when a vehicle carrying members of two families was swept off the road by a huge landslide. The incident was reported between the Bana-Seppa stretch of National Highway-13, according to IANS. In the second incident, two labourers were killed and two others were rescued after a landslide in a cabbage farm near the Pine Grove area in Lower Subansiri district. The Arunachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the family of those who lost their lives in landslide-related incidents across the state. Expressing his condolences to the families, Mr Khandu assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to the affected people in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday spoke to chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim and the Governor of Manipur in the wake of heavy rains in the regions. He has assured them of "every possible help to tackle any situation".
