Luis Campos Extends Role as Qatar Sports Investments Sports Advisor Until 2030

Daily Tribune6 days ago

Luis Campos has committed his future to Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), with the Portuguese sporting director extending his role as Sports Advisor to the group until 2030.
Campos, who initially joined QSI in June 2022 on a three-year deal, will now continue to shape the group's overarching sporting strategy for at least the next five years. The new agreement cements his position as a central figure in QSI's expansive football and sports portfolio, including continued oversight of Paris Saint-Germain's men's football operations and an advisory role at Portuguese side SC Braga.
The extension was confirmed on Thursday by QSI Chairman Nasser AlKhelaïfi, who praised Campos for his influence over a period of significant sporting and strategic growth within the organisation.
Sporting Success at PSG and Braga
Under Campos' leadership, Paris Saint-Germain have collected three Ligue 1 titles, a Coupe de France and three Trophée des Champions titles over the last three seasons. The club also reached the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League consistently, including a final, a semi-final, and a round-of-16 appearance.
Campos' influence has not been limited to the French capital. SC Braga, in which QSI holds a minority stake, have progressed both domestically and in Europe, bolstered by his strategic guidance and focus on youth development.
A Vision Beyond the Pitch
Beyond results on the pitch, Campos has played a key role in expanding QSI's wider football and sports network. He will now lead efforts to identify new multi-club ventures and untapped talent assets, as QSI looks to grow its global footprint in sport.
Youth development remains a cornerstone of the strategy. PSG's academy, operating from its state-of-the-art Campus in Poissy, recently made headlines after fielding six academy graduates in a single Ligue 1 fixture against Montpellier. Similarly, SC Braga has evolved into one of Europe's most respected talent incubators under Campos' watch.
Leadership Backed by AlKhelaïfi
'We are delighted to renew Luis Campos as Sports Advisor at QSI until 2030,' said AlKhelaïfi. 'We are building our project for the long-term and Luis has done a great job over the past three years. We have great stability, purpose and collective focus within our group.'
Campos expressed his gratitude for the continued backing from QSI's leadership: 'We can be very proud of how we have transformed the clubs, companies, projects and ethos within our Group. I truly believe this is only the beginning of our successes.'
With Campos at the helm of sporting operations, QSI appears set to continue its trajectory as one of the most ambitious and influential players in global football.

Saudis in ‘difficult' talks to keep Ronaldo next season: PIF source

Saudi officials are in 'difficult' talks to keep Cristiano Ronaldo in the country, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said yesterday, after the star footballer suggested he was leaving Al Nassr. The Portuguese superstar, whose arrival in 2023 heralded a rush of late-career players to the oil-rich country, could transfer to Al Hilal and feature at the upcoming Club World Club, the source said. 'There is an ongoing difficult negotiation to convince Ronaldo to stay and play' in the Saudi Pro League next season, said the source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), a major investor in Saudi football. 'First option is a transfer to Al Hilal with an opportunity to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup or to Asia champion Al Ahli,' the source added. The oil-funded PIF, the sovereign wealth fund behind a number of big-ticket Saudi investments, controls a group of Pro League clubs including Al Nassr, Al Hilal and Al Ahli. Ronaldo posted 'This chapter is over' hours after the Saudi Pro League wrapped up this week with Al Nassr finishing third and trophyless once again. A special transfer window opens from June 1-10 to allow the 32 teams involved in the newly expanded Club World Cup to sign players. Last week, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said 'there are discussions' over the former United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Sporting Lisbon star playing at the tournament in the United States from June 14. Portuguese forward Ronaldo, 40, joined Al Nassr in early 2023 from Manchester United and his contract expires at the end of next month. 'Ronaldo's presence is a key factor in developing the Saudi league in the last two years and a half. He opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia,' the PIF source said. Chet Holmgren added 22 points and Jalen Williams netted 19 for the Thunder, whose average age of 25.6 years makes them the youngest team in the NBA Finals since Portland in 1977. 'We have 17 dudes on the roster who will bring it every single game whether it's a closeout game or not,' Holmgren said. 'It's a step in the journey. We still have a season to play (in the Finals) so we're not done.'

PSG's Revolution Targets Champions League Glory

TDT | Manama Paris Saint-Germain are one match from history, facing Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday in Munich. Under Luis Enrique's bold leadership, PSG have transformed from a star-driven outfit into a cohesive, disciplined unit, with Ousmane Dembele's stunning reinvention as a lethal striker symbolising their new era. Enrique's Tactical Overhaul Since Qatar Sports Investments took over in 2011, PSG's domestic dominance—another Ligue 1 title and a record-extending 16th French Cup this season—hasn't matched European success. Their sole Champions League final ended in a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in 2020. Luis Enrique, arriving last year, changed that. Rejecting the old philosophy of indulging superstars like Kylian Mbappe, now at Real Madrid, he instilled intense training, tactical rigour, and collective responsibility. 'Our game isn't about letting one player do what he wants,' Enrique declared, a jab at the Mbappe era. The result? A squad former PSG boss Luis Fernandez calls 'the best collective' since the Qatari takeover, with camaraderie shining in their semi-final win over Arsenal. Dembele's Stunning Transformation Ousmane Dembele, once a frustrating winger, has become PSG's talisman. Enrique's decision to bench him against Arsenal in February sparked a remarkable turnaround. Shifted to a central No. 9 role, the 27-year-old has scored 32 goals in 40 appearances this season, including 21 in Ligue 1, with his conversion rate doubling to 26.7%. 'Playing as No. 9 brings me closer to goal,' Dembele said. His versatility—scoring with both feet and headers—has made him a nightmare for defenders, though missing four chances in the French Cup final showed he's not infallible. Inter's Challenge Awaits Inter Milan, led by Simone Inzaghi, stand in PSG's way. Champions League winners in 2010, Inter boast stars like Lautaro Martinez and goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who could rival PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma in what Gianluigi Buffon calls a 'final of goalkeepers.' Fernandez warns PSG must tighten up on set pieces, a rare weak spot. 'In open play, PSG are the better side,' he said, but Inter's streetwise approach will test their resolve. Enrique, radiating confidence, said: 'We've been preparing for 11 months.' Win or lose, his PSG have redefined themselves. Dembele's redemption and a united squad make Saturday's final a chance to crown a revolution and claim European football's holy grail.

Ronaldo Hints At Saudi Al Nassr Exit With Cryptic X Post: Reports

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at his departure from Al Nassr after scoring in Monday's Saudi Pro League season finale against Al Fateh, according to media reports. The Portuguese forward found the net in what could prove to be his final appearance for the Saudi club, though Al Nassr suffered a 3-2 defeat. The result meant the team failed to qualify for next season's AFC Champions League. Following the match, Ronaldo posted an image of himself wearing his Al Nassr shirt on social media with the caption: 'This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Thanks to all.' Ronaldo posts cryptic message following final Al Nassr match. The 39-year-old's current contract with Al Nassr expires in June. His goal against Al Fateh marked his 99th strike in 105 matches for the club since joining in January 2023. Ronaldo finished the Saudi Pro League campaign as the division's leading scorer with 25 goals, despite his team's failure to secure continental competition. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker has now scored 937 goals throughout his career, with 801 of those coming at club level. Reports emerged last week suggesting Ronaldo had received an offer from an unnamed Brazilian club. The move would allow him to participate in the expanded Club World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States from 14 June to 13 July. Four Brazilian teams – Botafogo, Fluminense, Flamengo and Palmeiras – have qualified for the tournament.
