Saudi Filmmaker Appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture

Saudi film director Haifaa Al-Mansour has been appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors.
Saudi-based Red Sea Film Foundation announced the news and said, "Al-Mansour will represent the Directors Branch and bring her singular voice, vision, and global perspective to the Academy's leadership for the 2025–2026 term and beyond."
In 2012, Al-Mansour made history when she released her first feature film, 'Wajda', because it was the first feature film shot entirely in the Kingdom and the first feature film to be made by a Saudi female film director.
Since then, Al-Mansour has risen to fame for directing episodes of various hit TV series in Hollywood including Archive 81,' 'City of Fire,' 'Tales of the Walking Dead,' and 'Bosch: Legacy.'
In 2019, Al Mansour's feature film 'The Perfect Candidate' was submitted as Saudi Arabia's official entry for the International Feature Film Award at the 92nd Academy Awards, however it was not nominated.

DOHA, QATAR – Miramax, the award-winning global film and television studio owned by beIN MEDIA GROUP (beIN) and Paramount Global, announced today the DFI x Miramax Writer's Program, a major partnership with Doha Film Institute (DFI) aimed at supporting the development of premium, local Arabic-language content across the Middle East and North Africa. The program will provide training, mentorship, and production and distribution resources for both emerging and established Arab writers, offering critical support for their projects, contributing to the expansion of the region's series content output, and strengthening Qatar's position as a leading media hub in the Middle East. The DFI x Miramax Writer's Program will involve the selection of up to five local and regional projects to develop each year. The Writer's Program will tie into DFI's existing Series Programs, with the goal of extending the reach and impact of these initiatives. The collaboration between Miramax, renowned for its film & television productions, and DFI, the leading film institute in the Middle East, addresses a key gap in the region's media industry by offering not only development support but also direct access to Miramax's vast distribution and sales network to reach audiences worldwide. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, visited the Opera House located in the City of Arts and Culture in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. This venue is considered the largest cultural and artistic landmark in the Middle East. H.H. Sheikh Sultan toured the building's halls, admiring its unique designs and historic hand-painted murals. He was also briefed on its various facilities, which include the halls for the opera, music, and drama theatres, as well as training rooms and backstage areas. The main hall can seat 2,200 people across four levels and is equipped to host world-class performances, such as orchestras, rhythmic ballet, opera, and international circuses. It features two movable towers to provide additional space. H.H. the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah also saw the music hall, which accommodates 1,200 spectators on three levels. Designed to the highest international standards, it is equipped with the latest advanced technology to support performing orchestras. The hall also features a pipe organ with 4,044 pipes, capable of playing all types of music and using technology to absorb loud, non-musical sounds. He then visited the drama hall, which seats 650 people on two levels. Designed for dramatic performances, plays, and talk shows, the hall is outfitted with advanced technology, including multi-language translation, automatic broadcasting of shows and events to satellite channels, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. H.H. Sheikh Sultan penned a message in the guestbook, writing: "I was honoured to visit the City of Arts and Culture. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all those responsible for this magnificent cultural landmark." The visit concluded with an exchange of commemorative shields and a group photo session with the Egyptian delegation.
