These logs would serve as the vital axles of the chariots.Along the routes, several devotees welcomed the sacred logs with folded hands and Jagannath bhajans. Traditional drums and conches resonated through the villages and towns. The first lot of the timber was despatched to Puri on May 6. In the first phase, 23 pieces of dharua and asana timbers, each measuring 40 ft in length and 4 to 5 ft in girth were collected from Ghoghada forest under Tarsingi range, he said."Marking and cutting of the trees were conducted with utmost reverence, with each tree geo-tagged using GPS to ensure transparency and sanctity," said the DFO. The dharua trees, revered for their strength and resilience, were sourced after thorough selection across the Bibali and Ghogoda reserve forests.Ganjam district has been supplying different species of logs for the last four years for construction of chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. Online sale of Srimandir Mahaprasad not allowed: Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan

Instead, Harichandan appealed devotees to come to Puri to partake the holy Mahaprasad of Srimandir. 'As of now, there is no provision by the temple to sell Mahaprasad online. Neither does the SJTA give permission to anyone to do so. It does not endorse any food delivery platforms that claim to deliver Mahaprasad online,' the minister said. He also appealed to all temples in the state not to sell their offerings online. The Suara Mahasuara Nijog also endorsed the minister's views. They said that Mahaprasad is not being sold online and if anyone claims of delivering it, it is not from the Srimandir kitchen or Ananda Bazaar. 'In the past, a certain temple administrator had asked us to allow online delivery of Mahaprasad. We had outrightly rejected the proposal then because it does not adhere to the temple norms and the temple's kitchen cannot operate as per people's demands. If one of us accepts the online demand for Mahaprasad and it is not ready on time, the only way to meet the demand would be cooking it outside the temple kitchen and delivering it. This is unacceptable. Only the sacred offering from temple kitchen can be called Mahaprasad and Sukhili Bhoga,' said a member. A few years back, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration had warned against unauthorised online sale of Mahaprasad because its rights are reserved with the temple administration. It had then warned of legal action against anyone found selling Mahaprasad online.

In a move to ensure student safety and improve infrastructure, Ravinder Kaur, district education officer (elementary), along with her team including management information system (MIS) coordinator Vishal Kumar, conducted a surprise inspection of several government schools across the city on Friday. The visit was aimed at reviewing classroom conditions and identifying unsafe rooms or buildings within the school premises. Ludhiana, India – August 08, 2025: Ravinder Kaur, District Education Officer (Elementary), conducted a surprise inspection of several government schools across the city on Friday, aimed at reviewing classroom conditions and identifying unsafe rooms or buildings within the school premises in Ludhiana on Friday. (HT Photo) Among the institutions visited were government primary schools (GPS) in Division Number 3, Madhopuri and Lakkar Bazaar. DEO Kaur mentioned that during her visit at GPS Division Number 3, one classroom and an adjacent storeroom were found to be structurally unsafe. 'Despite the structural concerns, the school was found to be maintaining a healthy learning environment. The mid-day meal facilities were clean and well-maintained, and the students' academic progress under the state's Mission Samrath programme was found satisfactory,' she added. The Lakkar Bazaar school, currently functioning from the premises of Government Senior Secondary School (multipurpose), raised further safety concerns. The kitchen and the adjoining verandah were identified as structurally unsafe. The school head was instructed to take immediate steps to ensure student safety and to maintain cleanliness in and around the school premises. 'At Government Primary School, Madhopuri, while the academic level of students was found satisfactory during the inspection, cleanliness remained a major issue,' noted Kaur. Piles of garbage near the main gate prompted the DEO to instruct the school in-charge to coordinate with the local municipal councillor to get the area cleaned. Further, she advised strict monitoring to ensure hygiene is maintained in the future, keeping in mind the health and safety of the children. The DEO emphasised that the safety and well-being of students is the top priority and directed school authorities to take immediate corrective measures wherever required. 'The concerns regarding unsafe buildings have been duly noted, and necessary action will be initiated promptly,' she affirmed with assurance.
