The HBO Max Name Change Is Here. Here's What to Know
The company first announced the change to the streaming service during its Upfront presentation in May, and judging by this meme it shared, the media giant has a sense of humor about it.

The streaming service was originally rebranded as Max in May of 2023 when it merged content from HBO Max and Discovery brands. During the past two years, we've seen the logo change from purple to blue and then black, along with the name flip. What's the reasoning behind the revamp this time around?
"The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming," said Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, according to a May press release. "Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead."
Your home screen will change to reflect the streamer's updated name and logo, but it's unclear whether HBO Max's library will change. The platform is home to content for HBO, Max Originals, Warner Bros., the DC universe, HGTV, B/R Sports, Adult Swim and more.
During the event, J.B. Perrette, CEO of streaming, explained how the move aligns with the platform's programming. "We will continue to focus on what makes us unique -- not everything for everyone in a household, but something distinct and great for adults and families," he said. "It's really not subjective, not even controversial -- our programming just hits different."

John Goodman revealed what he would say to his former co-star Roseanne Barr if he saw her today. After years of estrangement from his TV wife, the actor told Entertainment Tonight he would say four words to Barr if he could: 'Hi, how you doing?' Goodman, who co-starred with Barr on the 1980s sitcom Roseanne for a total of 10 seasons, including a 2018 revival, left it at that as interviewer Kevin Frazier nodded and said, 'I hear you, I hear you.' Goodman's four-word response came days after he told The Hollywood Reporter that he hasn't spoken to Barr in nearly a decade. 'I'd rather doubt if she wants to talk to me,' he said. 'We haven't talked for about seven or eight years.' Of his past friendship with Barr, he added, 'We hit it off from jump street. She made me laugh, and I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun. …Things are so different now, but it was a special time.' Barr stopped speaking to her former co-star in 2018 after she was fired by ABC amid a racist Twitter scandal. Her lead matriarch character was killed off the Roseanne series. Goodman and the rest of the cast went on to star in The Conners spinoff, which ran for seven seasons, ending in April 2025. Goodman previously defended Barr to the Sunday Times, telling the outlet that he knew 'for a fact that she's not a racist.' In an interview with Variety, the actor said he felt 'bad" for his longtime co-star amid the scandal. 'I just feel terrible about the whole thing,' Goodman said. 'We had a great time. And I love her. She's just her own person. … I miss her. I wish her well.' In June, Barr, 72, confirmed that she no longer speaks to Goodman or her former Roseanne co-stars Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson, Sara Gilbert, and Michael Fishman. John Goodman Reveals Elizabeth Taylor Talked About Epic Hollywood Love Affair on Movie Set
John Goodman revealed that Elizabeth Taylor talked about her tumultuous romance with Richard Burton when they worked together in the 1994 film, The Flintstones. The Hollywood legend played Wilma Flintstone's mother, Pearl Slaghoople, in the 1994 live-action comedy, marking her final film role in an iconic 60-year career. According to Taylor's official website, the famed actress spent five days shooting The Flintstones, where she 'navigated the set like the pro she was.' 'She made final touches to her own makeup, received daily gag gifts from the crew, and made light of stressful situations,' the site teased. Goodman, who played Fred Flintstone in the film adaptation of the classic 1960s cartoon series, told People magazine that he was starstruck when Taylor spoke to him about Burton during a filming break. "Elizabeth Taylor was my mother-in-law in The Flintstones," the actor recalled. "She took a fall in the film, so we were just squatting around her, talking to her. I just got her talking about [Richard] Burton a little bit when she was on the floor, and it was wow." "There's old-school movie stars and then there's Elizabeth Taylor,' Goodman added. 'She was at the zenith in her life and in films. I never thought I'd ever get to meet her." Taylor and Burton were the most iconic celebrity couple of the 1960s and '70s.
