‘Kashmir to Kanyakumari' has become reality: PM Modi inaugurates Chenab, Anji rail bridges in J&K
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab river, which was completed at a cost of Rs 1,486 crore in more than eight years.
The prime minister then walked on the bridge holding the tricolour.
After the Chenab bridge, Modi inaugurated India's first cable-stayed rail bridge over the river Anji.
Before the inauguration, Modi travelled in a rail engine coach to reach the spot.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were present on the occasion.
At a rally in Katra after the inauguration, Modi said the inauguration of mega infrastructure projects marks a turning point in Jammu and Kashmir's development journey. The state-of-the-art Chenab bridge will improve connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar, he said.
'The saying 'from Kashmir to Kanyakumari' has become reality in rail network also,' the prime minister said after inaugurating the Kashmir rail link.
He described the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line as a symbol of new, empowered Jammu and Kashmir and a resounding proclamation of India's growing strength. The Chenab and Anji bridges will serve as gateways to prosperity for Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
'Today the dream of lakhs of people of J&K has been fulfilled. All the good work is indeed left for me only to complete. It is the good fortune of our government that this project gained momentum during our tenure, and we completed it... This was a challenging project to complete, but our government always chooses the path of challenging the challenge itself. The all-weather projects being built in J&K are an example of this,' Modi said.

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India] June 6 (ANI): Awanish Awasthi, advisor to the Uttar Pradesh government and former Chief Secretary, arrived in Vrindavan on Friday to address the ongoing opposition to the Banke Bihari Temple Corridor project. Awasthi began his visit by holding a meeting with officials to review the situation. He then visited the Banke Bihari Temple, where he performed the Dehri Pujan and offered Itr Seva. Following the rituals, he met with the temple's Goswami Sevayats to discuss the project, the resistance it has faced, and the potential benefits it could bring. After the discussions with the Goswamis, Awasthi's convoy proceeded to the Tourist Facility Centre (TFC) in Vrindavan, where he is currently holding a meeting with representatives from various sections of the local community to address concerns and deliberate on the corridor project. Earlier on May 27, the Supreme Court slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for 'hijacking' the litigation between two private parties over management of the Shri Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma said that if the state government starts entering into private disputes between parties, it will result in a 'breakdown of the rule of law. The bench asked the counsel appearing for the state, 'Was the state a party to the proceedings? In what capacity has the state entered the dispute? If states start entering into private disputes between parties, it will break the rule of law. You can't hijack the litigation. In private litigation between two parties, a state filing an impleadment application and hijacking it is not permissible.' The apex court's observation came while hearing a petition seeking the modification of its order permitting the Uttar Pradesh government to utilise funds from the Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan to purchase five acres of land around the temple for corridor development. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for petitioner Devendra Nath Gooswami, told the bench that a fund of Rs 300 crore has been given to the Uttar Pradesh government without making him a party. 'They can't take away the funds of a private temple,' said Sibal. On the other hand, counsel appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government told the bench the state has passed an Ordinance and set up a trust to manage the Banke Bihari temple and oversee work on the proposed corridor. 'Now, the enactment has come into force. Funds are with the Trust, not with the state. This enforcement will dilute the direction of the apex court. The state is not using the funds. The Ordinance bars the state from implementing the court's direction, and the Ordinance says the Trust will manage funds and the state has no role to play,' said the counsel of Uttar Pradesh. The apex court then directed the counsel for the state government to place on record a copy of the Ordinance passed concerning the Trust. It directed the concerned Principal Secretary to file an affidavit by July 29. The petition filed by Gooswami said he was a 'lineal descendant' of the temple's founder, Swami Hari Das Goswami, and his family had been managing the affairs of the sacred temple for the last 500 years. He said he actively managed the temple's daily religious and administrative affairs. In filing the plea, he said the implementation of the proposed redevelopment project was practically unfeasible, and any attempt to redevelop the temple premises without the involvement and input of those who were historically and operationally associated with the temple's functioning was likely to result in administrative chaos. On May 15, the top court had permitted the state to use the Trust's fund and also allowed the use of Sri Banke Bihari Temple Trust's fixed deposits after taking into note the state government's Rs. 500 crore development plan for the corridor. Gujarat: CM Patel grants approval for projects worth over Rs. 1,700 cr in six municipal corporations
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 6 (ANI): Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has adopted a significant approach to enhancing urban welfare with better facilities during the Urban Development Year 2025, which the State Government is celebrating. In this regard, the Chief Minister has granted in-principle approval for works worth over Rs. 1700.57 crore in a single day for various development projects in 6 newly formed municipal corporations, 5 municipalities, and the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporations. During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated effective and planned urban management with the celebration of Urban Development Year in 2005. Through his foresight, urbanization was embraced as a unique opportunity for development. This vision, coupled with public participation, led to the development of beautiful, clean, and dynamic cities, consequently establishing the state's urban centres as well-planned, developed cities. Inspired by the Prime Minister, the state's two-decade-long successful urban development journey is now being further advanced under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. To guide urban transformation and empower citizens effectively, the year 2025 is being celebrated as the Urban Development Year. On May 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the celebration of this Urban Development Year and gave a vision to make cities dynamic centers of economic activity. To realise that vision, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, gave in-principle approval for works worth over Rs. 1700.57 crore. From the total amount approved by the Chief Minister for development works, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will receive Rs. 546 crore, Gandhinagar Rs. 32 crore, and among the newly formed municipal corporations: Anand Rs. 148 crore, Morbi Rs. 270.08 crore, Surendranagar Rs. 257.60 crore, Nadiad Rs. 71.91 crore, Vapi Rs. 251.91 crore, and Navsari Rs. 90.35 crore. Additionally, Vadnagar municipality will receive Rs. 16.37 crore, Himmatnagar Rs. 7.33 crore, Siddhpur Rs. 3.74 crore, Halvad Rs. 4.02 crore, and Bharuch municipality will receive Rs. 85.52 lakh for development works. The Chief Minister has approved Rs. 676.28 crore for a total of 247 inter-structural facility works in six newly formed municipal corporations, including streetlights, solar facilities, city beautification, development of public gardens, drainage, traffic circles, rainwater harvesting, stormwater drainage lines, city civic centers, fire equipment, etc. Under the Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana, the Chief Minister has given in-principle approval for works worth Rs. 652.78 crore for road renovation, resurfacing, white topping, and repair of roads wider than 60 feet in Anand, Surendranagar, Vapi, and Morbi municipal corporations, as well as Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar municipal corporations. Furthermore, under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, the Chief Minister has approved works worth Rs. 191.91 crore for essential infrastructure, such as filter plant repairs, roads, gutters, storm drains, and water facilities for the Surendranagar, Vapi, and Anand municipal corporations. He has also approved Rs. 31 crore for the construction of iconic roads in Anand and Surendranagar municipal corporations and sanctioned works worth Rs. 85.52 lakh for standard plot paver block works under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana) in societies within Bharuch municipality. To provide easy access to drinking water in newly included areas of towns and cities, the Chief Minister has approved a total of Rs. 67.35 crore from the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana for water supply works in Himmatnagar and Siddhpur municipalities and Morbi municipal corporation. In addition, Morbi and Vapi municipal corporations and Halvad municipality have been sanctioned works worth a combined total of Rs. 64.02 crore for works such as drinking water lines, underground gutters, asphalt roads, CC roads, and fire station construction in outgrowth areas. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has stated that the amount allocated for the development of urban welfare works will add new momentum to the urban development of the state in the coming days, enabling citizens to realise the goal of 'earning well - living well' through the planned development of cities and urban areas. Modi inaugurates world's highest rail bridge in Kashmir (VIDEO)
The crossing is part of a new train line connecting the region to the rest of India for the first time Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated two railway bridges that are a part of a new link connecting the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. It is the first time he has been to the region since the deadly Pahalgam attack on tourists, which triggered a diplomatic and military clash between New Delhi and Islamabad. During his speech on Friday, Modi highlighted the importance of developing Kashmir's infrastructure. The region has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan for decades. The prime minister opened the Chenab bridge - labeled by Indian authorities the world's highest railway bridge - and Anji bridge, India's first cable-stayed rail bridge. Both are parts of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line project, a 272-kilometer long railway link that Modi hailed as Jammu and Kashmir's "new strength" and a "testament to India's growing capabilities." The Chenab bridge, built over the river of the same name, towers 359 meters above the riverbed and rises 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower. It was constructed at an estimated cost of approximately $173 million, according to the official statement. The Anji bridge, a cable-stayed railway bridge constructed in a difficult Himalayan terrain, is 331 meters high and is anchored by 96 high tensile cables. The total length of the cables used in the bridge is 653 kilometers, the statement noted. Modi also announced new trains would run between Jammu's capital Srinagar, and Katra, where Vaishno Devi temple, one of the most visited and revered Hindu pilgrimage sites in India, is located. It marks the completion of a 42-year-old project to link Kashmir with the rest of the country via railway. A test run on his route was carried out by the railway authorities in December last year.
