FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Obsidian Solutions Group is proud to announce its support to the Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA) and its groundbreaking research and development initiative—the Applied Sciences Center for Resilience Studies (ASC). The ASC creates a nexus between researchers and practitioners, enabling and advancing collaboration among government agencies, industries, and academia to enhance community wildfire resilience. ASC's inaugural research endeavor, which is funded by NASA's Earth Applied Sciences Wildland Fires program area, will focus on wildfire decision-making and data mapping. Known as the Wildfire Decision and Data Mapping Project, this effort will study the intersection of wildfire management, human decisions, and planned interventions to advance wildfire science and technology, improve emergency management techniques and procedures, and support data-informed decision making for fire-related emergency services, future technologies, and resourcing. Dr. Katelynn Kapalo—ASC's assistant director—and Brian Collins—the research project's co-investigator—will lead this effort for the WFCA. According to Kapalo and Collins, the goal of this foundational study is to create a science-based decision model, enabling NASA and the wildfire community to align and prioritize investments in sensors and systems, data and data analytics, operational planning, resourcing, and mitigation.

Is It Too Late to Buy Uber?
Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) has been on an absolute tear. As of June 3, its shares have soared 38% in 2025. That's a tremendous gain during a time when the broader S&P 500 index is up just 2%. If you zoom out, the return is even more eye-popping. In the past two years, this top growth stock has catapulted 109% higher. Strong financial performance is clearly winning over the investment community. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Perhaps you've missed the ride thus far. Is it too late for investors to buy Uber? Diversified business model It's been incredible to observe Uber's monumental ascent. What was once solely a ride-hailing service has evolved into both a mobility and delivery behemoth. In Q4 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, mobility gross bookings represented 75% of the company's total. In the latest quarter (Q1 2025), it was an almost even split between mobility and delivery. This kind of diversified model is hard to overstate, and it gives Uber an advantage. This shows up in the ability to leverage the same driver network, allowing these gig workers to earn more money. Uber has more data to work with, which can support various marketing and promotional activities. And it can be a holistic solution for consumers who don't want to navigate multiple apps. What's more, Uber brings in more than one revenue stream. In the first quarter of 2025, it registered $6.5 billion in revenue from mobility and $3.8 billion from delivery. There is a freight segment as well, which is tiny by comparison. Generating substantial profits What was probably once unimaginable to the critics is now a reality. And that is the fact that Uber is extremely profitable these days. It's a scaled platform that is boosting bottom-line performance. Uber posted $1.2 billion in operating income in Q1. That figure is a drastic improvement from a $1.3 billion operating loss in the first quarter of 2020. A fresh focus on creating a more efficient organization is clearly working. The management team expects adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to grow about 37% to 40% between 2024 and 2027. Operating from a position of power Uber continues to operate from a position of strength thanks to its tremendous network effect. It counted 170 million monthly active users in Q1. There are more than 7 million drivers. And last year, Uber surpassed 1 million merchants. With more users, drivers, and merchants, the entire platform constantly becomes more valuable to all stakeholders. Uber's competitive position is also supported by its powerful brand presence. The Uber name is now often used as a verb, both for getting from point A to point B and for having something delivered. That mindshare works wonders for Uber's visibility. And it highlights just how valuable Uber has become to other companies that want to tap into such a massive user base. Uber recently announced partnerships with OpenTable and Delta Air Lines. And key players working on autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, like Waymo, WeRide, and many others, have also chosen to partner with Uber to help further develop, improve, and commercialize their services. Because of Uber's competitive strengths and unrivaled reach, it makes sense these partners are leaning on it. Uber is positioning itself to be a leader in AV. Are you late to the Uber party? At the start of 2025, shares traded at a very compelling forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 16.7. Of course, the situation isn't as cheap today. The current multiple is 22.9. However, I don't believe this valuation is asking too much of investors. As mentioned, there are many reasons to like this business. And there remains a sizable growth opportunity. For instance, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi says that AV technology alone presents a $1 trillion opportunity just in the U.S. Additionally, Uber is trying to sign up more teenagers, increase rider frequency, and expand use cases. There appears to be substantial upside for prospective investors over the long term. This means it's not too late to buy Uber stock. Should you invest $1,000 in Uber Technologies right now? Should You Buy Tesla Stock Before June 12?
Last October, investors, technologists, and even skeptics tuned in from around the world for an event called " We, Robot," during which Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) previewed its progress in the autonomous driving race. During the month leading up to the Oct. 10 unveiling of the company's self-driving robotaxi, shares of the electric vehicle (EV) stock soared as much as 16%. This is par for the course for a volatile momentum stock such as Tesla, which often moves in overly pronounced directions depending on the current narrative. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Learn More » During the month of May, history seemed to repeat itself as shares of Tesla climbed by 23%. Let's break down what the hype around the stock is all about, and assess if it's a good buy before what could reportedly be its latest major product reveal on June 12. Why is June 12 so important for Tesla? According to countless news reports, Tesla will be launching a robotaxi service in its first market on June 12. Autonomous driving is one of the biggest pillars supporting the company's ambitions in artificial intelligence (AI). To say the company faces enormous pressure and intensifying levels of scrutiny leading up to the launch would be an understatement. Listen carefully to Musk The robotaxi presents a transformative opportunity for Tesla's long-run prospects. The combination of subscriptions for its full self-driving (FSD) software in its EVs as well as the unit economics from launching a ride-hailing service presents Tesla with a new form of high-margin subscription revenue. The sticky nature of a business like this could generate billions in profit for Tesla on an annual basis, which the company could further invest in other growth areas or new AI-powered services. While this is all exciting, investors need to be careful in sifting through narratives versus reality right now. During Tesla's first-quarter earnings call in late April, CEO Elon Musk said that the robotaxi likely won't be a major financial contributor for the company until "around the middle of next year, second half of next year." Musk further attempted to level expectations during a recent interview with David Faber of CNBC. During the discussion, Musk said that the launch n Austin this month would start with only a handful of self-driving cars in the fleet He went on to say that the robotaxi business will scale up based on consumer demand and performance of the software. The June 12 date surfaced via an unnamed source in a Bloomberg report on May 28. Is Tesla stock a buy right now? There is an art and a science to valuing stocks. Wall Street analysts often rely on a combination of industry research and comparable company analysis to build discounted cash flow models (DCF) that can help determine the intrinsic value of a stock. Where things get blurred between art and science is when you try to place a value on a narrative -- that is, attempting to make forecasts on a new venture that does not have much in the way of comparable businesses to help benchmark it. Looking at demand trends for ride-sharing applications such as Uber and Lyft as well as the current trajectory of Alphabet 's autonomous vehicle subsidiary Waymo can be useful to some degree. However, trying to discern how successful Tesla's robotaxi business will be based on what the competition is currently witnessing most likely yields an incredibly loose projection. With shares of Tesla already full of momentum, I think the prudent strategy is to sit on the sidelines during the initial phases of the robotaxi launch, which may or may not happen on June 12 in Austin. Buying the stock right before the initial launch shouldn't make much of a difference for your gains if you're an investor with a long-run time horizon. If the robotaxi service scales up to the size that Musk thinks it will, investors will have ample opportunity to buy shares as Tesla evolves into more of an AI-centric business. Don't miss this second chance at a potentially lucrative opportunity Ever feel like you missed the boat in buying the most successful stocks? Then you'll want to hear this. On rare occasions, our expert team of analysts issues a 'Double Down' stock recommendation for companies that they think are about to pop. If you're worried you've already missed your chance to invest, now is the best time to buy before it's too late. And the numbers speak for themselves: Nvidia: if you invested $1,000 when we doubled down in 2009, you'd have $368,035!* Apple: if you invested $1,000 when we doubled down in 2008, you'd have $38,503!* Netflix: if you invested $1,000 when we doubled down in 2004, you'd have $668,538!* Right now, we're issuing 'Double Down' alerts for three incredible companies, available when you join Stock Advisor, and there may not be another chance like this anytime soon.
