FLOORED We spent £70K transforming our 90s horror home into our Scandi-style dream pad but there's a mistake we deeply regret

When a house they loved came on the market for £543,500, they jumped at the chance to buy it.
But as soon as they stepped inside, they realised how much work was needed to transform the dated '90s horror' into the Scandi-style haven they envisioned.
With no DIY experience to speak of, the couple, aged 38 and 37, turned to YouTube tutorials to guide them through the renovation process.
Fortunately, their hard work paid off, boosting the value of their home by £106,000.

However, not everything went smoothly, and they now regret certain decisions they made during the project.
A video where they discuss their renovation mistakes has gone viral, racking up 5.4 million views and over 18,000 likes.
'I love our home, but I wish we didn't rush into things and always go with the cheapest quote,' the assistant underwriter, from Kent, told Luxury Property News.
'My piece of advice – always research the reviews of tradespeople.

'If you buy cheap, you buy twice, and that's definitely proving to be the case for us.
'We'd also never go for black bathroom fittings again; it's the worst mistake of our renovation.

'They have all become chipped and damaged.
'I just don't think they were made to last in our opinion.'

Charlotte and Luke self-taught themselves the skills to spruce up their five-bedroom detached home, such as plastering, installing the kitchen and laying down flooring.
They used Screwfix, Toolstation, B&Q and Amazon as their go-to places for replacing almost every aspect of their home – and for a fresh lick of paint.

And while it cost an estimated £70,000, and took one year to complete; there's still so much more to do.
In the clip, she shows off their minimalist bathroom that cost £3,000 to transform.

It looks spotless, until she shows the chipped black hardware and the taps, which are scratched and scuffed beyond repair.

Charlotte estimates it's going to cost another £500 to repair.
For now, though, they're focusing on adding more character and personality to their humble abode before taking on any other renovations.
She hopes sharing her home transformation journey will help others not to make the same mistakes they did.

She added: 'I've always admired home accounts and decided on a whim to start my own.

'I love giving advice on what to do – and certainly not what to do – for others.
'We're not planning to move for at least another 10 years while our children grow up, but never say never.
'My advice? Try and do as much as you can yourself.
'There are so many tutorials out there and you might just surprise yourself with what you're capable of doing.

'Just make sure not to rush into anything.'

Harrowing moment plane comes terrifyingly close to helicopter as it takes off at airport

The plane appeared to swerve quickly and desperately avoid a mid-air tragedy. 6 Terrifying footage has captured the moment a plane nearly missed a helicopter Credit: Jam Press 6 The plane appeared to quickly swerve out of the helicopter's path Credit: Jam Press 6 Surveillance footage captured the tense moment Credit: Jam Press Surveillance footage showed the Phenom 300 executive jet taking off from the runway as the chopper flew overhead. They seemed to almost collide mid-air in terrifying scenes filmed at the Costa Esmeralda Airport in Porto Belo, south of São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday. The small airfield does not have a control tower. After the footage was shared online, one local posted on X, 'Looks like a go-around by the aircraft on approach to accommodate the takeoff of the departing aircraft. 'Sequence spacing didn't quite work out.' Another person said, 'Didn't they coordinate between aircraft? 'Someone screwed up.' But another video, taken from a different angle, appeared to show that there was a much greater distance between the two aircraft. The clip, filmed by Henrique Garcia, showed that the helicopter was further ahead of the jet than first thought. Airfield administrator Tiago Neves said the two pilots were in contact throughout the takeoff, as reported by What's The Jam. Six dead in San Diego plane crash as Cessna slams into ocean after pilot made haunting final call to air traffic control He told local media, 'The occurrence is absolutely normal, the two aircraft were being coordinated, and the two pilots had communication with each other. 'The video that was released creates sensationalism as the angle makes it seem like the aircraft are very close, which does not correspond to reality.' Neves pointed out that the airfield does not have a control tower, and pilots carry out procedures via communication and visual contact. He said the helicopter's approach occurred outside the runway so as not to interrupt the jet's takeoff. He added, 'It is common for the tower, when there is one, or the pilots themselves, when at uncontrolled airfields, to coordinate the approach. 'That's why the helicopter goes directly to the grassy area. 'Everything was done responsibly and within normal limits.' The video surfaced just months after a Black Hawk crashed into a plane as it was landing in Washington DC. The horrific accident left all 67 people on board the two aircraft dead. And another helicopter wrecked in New York City in April, killing all six people on board. 6 The near miss took place at the Costa Esmeralda Airport in Porto Belo, south of São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday Credit: Jam Press 6 Horrified locals questioned why the aircraft got so close Credit: Jam Press

I'm homeless after my VACUUM set on fire while I was at work – my whole house is destroyed, don't make my mistake
A WOMAN has been left devastated after her vacuum cleaner set fire and destroyed her home. Tanya Bennett was at work when the appliance set ablaze after she left it plugged in for 18 hours. 4 Tanya Bennett's home was destroyed after a vacuum cleaner set alight while she was at work Credit: Jam Press 4 Tanya was notified by a neighbour that the fir head travelled through the house Credit: Jam Press 4 Her three dogs were trapped inside but luckily survived Credit: Jam Press The 36-year-old's neighbour alerted her and the fire brigade to the casualty on Monday (9th June), where Tanya's three dogs were trapped inside. Every room in the house has been damaged, apart from the kitchen, leaving Tanya homeless and in temporary accommodation. Thankfully, Tanya's French Bulldogs, Lewi and Monkey, and Cockapoo, Luna, were rescued from the burning building. 'I'm absolutely devastated, helpless and in shock,' Tanya, from Telford, Shropshire, told NeedToKnow. 'I couldn't believe it when the firefighters said it was caused by the vacuum cleaner. 'I'm now homeless and my dogs have had to go to my friend's house as I can't keep them in my temporary accommodation. 'I'd left the vacuum cleaner plugged into the wall after cleaning the night before. 'I was at work and the neighbour called to say my house was on fire and she'd called the fire brigade. 'When I got home, the firefighters had only recovered one dog as he was in the kitchen which was the only room that wasn't damaged because the door was shut. 'The other two dogs were trapped upstairs by the smoke. 4 The damage has left Tanya homeless and with thousands of pounds of damage to pay Credit: Jam Press Dad and daughter, 9, die in house fire as sister, 11, fighting for life in hospital 'It was heartbreaking. I was screaming and crying and they brought the dogs out one by one. 'They were black.' The vacuum cleaner had been plugged in for 18 hours when it set on fire. The marketing manager estimates it will cost her thousands to replace all of her furniture and redecorate as the whole house was smoke-damaged. The 8 fire safety checks you should do in your home every night TO avoid a devastating fire in your home, there are some checks you should be conducting every night, according to Close inside doors at night to stop a fire from spreading Turn off and unplug electrical appliances unless they are designed to be left on – like your freezer. Check your cooker is turned off Don't run appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers overnight Turn heaters off and put up fireguards Put candles and cigarettes out properly Make sure exits are kept clear Keep door and window keys where everyone can find them Tanya said: 'It's thick and black . All the furniture is covered in soot, the TV cabinet is melted and all of my drawers of clothes are covered in soot. 'Basically, every single item in my house is covered by smoke. 'There's not one single item that is not. 'I need to replace everything and it will cost thousands. 'The whole house needs specialist cleaning and I can't go in without PPE.' With the house now completely uninhabitable, Tanya is living in temporary accommodation and doesn't know when she'll be able to go home. Tanya added: 'I didn't think that a vacuum cleaner could even catch fire. How much damage it's caused is crazy. 'Apparently, the dust particles inside are very combustible." Tanya urged everyone to unplug the appliance to not risk any incidents. She added: 'Just turn everything off at the wall or unplug appliances. 'Even though the electrics tripped and cut off it didn't matter as the fire still continued once it had sparked.' Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
