England: Lionesses handed major Leah Williamson injury boost ahead of semi-final
All 23 members of the England squad, including Williamson, took part in a training session on Monday morning in Zurich.
Williamson was substituted in the first half of extra time after rolling her ankle during last Thursday's dramatic quarter-final against Sweden, when England fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 before prevailing on penalties to reach the last four.
The 28-year-old underwent a medical assessment with the Lionesses' team doctors at their Zurich base camp on Friday before being passed fit to train on Monday.
Speaking on Saturday, fellow defender Esme Morgan said: 'We are very optimistic that Leah will be available [against Italy]. She seemed in very high spirits this morning, and I want what's best for the team and that's absolutely having our captain on the pitch for us.
'I'm going to be prepared to play if I'm needed. I'll know the role and just be absolutely ready to train at a high level over the next few days, but we're very optimistic Leah will be fine.'
Williamson was seen wearing a protective boot and using crutches after the Sweden match on Thursday, but this was said to be just a precaution.
England's semi-final against Italy on Tuesday evening takes place at Geneva's Stade de Genève.

Chat G & G dive into Liverpool's high standards after Wirtz training buzz
Liverpool's Summer of Statement Signings: Florian Wirtz and the Rise of Arne Slot's Project Wirtz Sparks Heated Praise and Fierce Standards Liverpool fans are still buzzing as the club continues its high-powered rebuild under Arne Slot, but few signings have lit the touchpaper quite like Florian Wirtz. The German playmaker has arrived at Anfield amid huge expectations and even bigger reactions from those close to the club, as revealed by Gags Tandon and Grizz Khan on the latest episode of Chat G & G. Gags was quick to reference early training ground noise, quoting Dave OCKOP update that 'the players are absolutely mind-blown by the quality of Florian in training.' He backed that enthusiasm, insisting, 'They might be blown away by Florian Wirtz. I'm not comparing him to anyone else.' For Gags, Wirtz is not just another talented addition but a 'generational talent', someone who should be appreciated on his own terms. Grizz, though excited, applied a more measured lens: 'We have had class players in our very recent past—the likes of Bobby, Sadio, Phil Coutinho… and [Wirtz] is another in the line of brilliant players.' For him, the conversation must now shift to performance. 'Let the talent do the talking and let the world see what you're about in a Liverpool shirt,' he stated plainly. Generational Talent or Just Generational Hype? The debate over Wirtz's arrival reflects more than just excitement. It reveals the standards expected at a club coming off a Premier League title win under new management. Grizz's tone was clear: potential alone isn't enough. 'Now we've got him and he's ours and we believe in him and I believe in him… Let him fulfil his potential.' There were warnings too. 'Let's not over-glorify,' Grizz said. 'We have many players in world football that have had huge potential—Kai Havertz is a great example.' That comparison isn't just theoretical. As Grizz pointed out, Liverpool fans once had their hopes pinned on Havertz being the 'Firmino replacement'. It didn't materialise. Wirtz will have to do more than look good in training. He'll have to rise in the cauldron of Premier League expectations, surrounded by past and present icons. Fitting into Slot's System What does Wirtz bring to Arne Slot's Liverpool? According to the pod, it's technical quality, flair, and the ability to thrive in an intricate, possession-based system. Gags underlined the stylistic synergy: 'They all like to play it as well… It's all about intricate football. You need to put a footballer in there to play.' Grizz agreed in part but returned to what matters most—what happens when Wirtz steps onto the pitch for real. 'Now it's time he performs in the jersey of Liverpool Football Club.' That focus on output was echoed again and again. It's not enough to be 'one of the best talents in Europe', which both Gags and Grizz acknowledged. Liverpool expects delivery. No Room for Sentiment If one thing was clear from Chat G & G, it's that this Liverpool is operating with ruthless clarity. The club is buying smart, bold, and decisively. Gags defended the internal praise: 'Praising someone for being fantastic is not weak. It's lifting him up.' Grizz, while never doubting the signing's potential, challenged that line: 'By suggesting the players are blown away… it's almost like saying, 'Hey man, we've had nobodies.' Are we Spurs? Are we Manchester United?' For him, Liverpool must now act like the elite club it has become. 'Slot doesn't want us to be this underdog mentality… Welcome another great player. That's it.'

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson joins Roma on loan
Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson has joined Serie A side Roma on a season-long loan. The Athletic reported on Sunday that the 20-year-old was flying to Italy ahead of the move. The deal contains an option to make the transfer permanent. Ferguson will wear the No 11 shirt in the Italian capital. Roma had been in the market for a new striker after Tammy Abraham joined Turkish side Besiktas on loan, which will become a permanent deal if certain conditions are met. 'Evan had a challenging period across the past season and a half, and it has been one disrupted by niggling injury issues which hasn't allowed him a run of games,' said Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler. 'He is over those injuries and has come back in great shape. Now he really wants to play regularly. This is an exciting opportunity in a strong league and with the prospect of European football. 'We wish Evan well for the season ahead and will be watching his progress closely throughout the season.' Advertisement Roma finished fifth in the league last season, earning qualification for the Europa League. Gian Piero Gasperini is preparing for his season as the club's head coach after spending nine years at Atalanta. Ferguson will become the first Irish player to ever play for the three-time Serie A champions. ✍ Evan Ferguson is a new Roma player! 🐺 📄 — AS Roma English (@ASRomaEN) July 23, 2025 He spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at West Ham United, reuniting him with former Brighton head coach Graham Potter, but only made eight appearances for the side. Ferguson joined Brighton in 2021 from Irish club Bohemians. He record eight goals and assists in 19 Premier League games during his breakout 2022-23 season, but the following season was disrupted by injury and he did not score for nearly a year between November 2023 and October 2024. The striker has been capped 20 times by the Republic of Ireland, scoring five goals, after making his debut as an 18-year-old in November 2022. Greek strikers Stefanos Tzimas, who was signed in January, and Charalampos Kostoulas have arrived at Brighton this summer, while Joao Pedro left for Chelsea in a deal worth in excess of £50million. ()
