Judge Mathis Says Kanye West's Presence At Diddy's Trial 'Creates Drama'

Judge Greg Mathis has been a TV judge for most of his career, but he's been giving his legal opinion as the weeks wane on in Diddy's sex trafficking trial.
However, in a recent interview with TMZ, he took off his attorney hat and focused more on the press surrounding the high-profile case, specifically Kanye West, who appeared at the courthouse last week to support him.
'I think it creates drama,' Mathis said concerning Ye's presence. 'More drama than we've seen already. So that's my assessment. I'm not sure whether that was intentional or to create drama, or whether he's there to comfort or support a friend, which I think is fine.'
Aside from Ye, Mathis also touched on those family and friends closest to Diddy who have been criticized for publicly defending him, including his kids, who have sat in for most of the court days as his alleged victims recount their abuse. Mathis says that public support is admirable, but behind closed doors, they should be honest with him about all the alleged mistakes he's made and criticize him.
'You should be there for your friend to comfort him. Even though he has done wrong,' he added. 'He's done some heinous crimes, assaults against these women. But if I were a family member, I would be there to comfort him, not defend him, not stick up for, what he's done. I would condemn him in private and support him in public.'
Just a few weeks ago, the no-nonsense former Detroit-area district court judge spoke about the case on The Mathis Verdict podcast, which he shares with his son Amir, to focus on the legal proceedings.
He says that based on the testimony and videos he's seen, he thinks he was involved in at least two cases of assault and battery against women, and also was somehow connected to the bombing of Kid Cudi's car.
'If you want to sum it up, if it were a state crime that Judge Mathis has observed testimony and evidence and transcripts, what would I give him? Five to 10 [years],' he said.

Food Network star Anne Burrell dead at 55
NEW YORK — Anne Burrell, the Food Network star best known for leading the channel's hit show 'Worst Cooks in America,' died on Tuesday. She was 55. Burrell died at her home in Brooklyn, according to TMZ. Her cause of death was not immediately reported; sources told the outlet she was found unresponsive at the residence Tuesday morning. 'Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world,' Burrell's family told People in a statement. 'Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit and boundless love remain eternal.' Burrell became a fan favorite at the Food Network for her energetic personality on 'Worst Cooks,' doing her best to shape floundering chefs into respectable recipe followers. When Burrell wasn't tapped to join the show's 28th season in January — after playing a central role in the first 27 — viewers were appalled and even Burrell was baffled. When asked on social media why she wasn't on the show anymore, she replied, 'I don't know.' Though she was only 55, Burrell was a Food Network veteran, competing in more than 200 culinary battles on the channel. She got her start as a sous chef on 'Iron Chef America' before taking on a larger role. Some of her many appearances included 'Chef Wanted,' 'Chopped,' 'Food Network Star' and a new series, 'House of Knives,' which debuted in March. Born on Sept. 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, N.Y., Burrell didn't begin her culinary journey until first obtaining an English and communications degree from Canisius University in Buffalo. But from there, it was all food. She graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, then snagged a job at a Michelin star restaurant in Italy before eventually moving to New York City. Her TV career began in 2005 as a sous chef to Mario Batali on 'Iron Chef,' but it took off a few years later when she got her own program, 'Secrets of a Restaurant Chef.' 'Burrell's on-air persona combines the physical heft of Batali, a permanent case of bed-head and the totally wacky comedic sensibility of a pre-rehab Robin Williams,' the Dallas Observer wrote in 2011. In addition to her TV success, Burrell wrote two cookbooks: 'Cook Like a Rock Star' in 2011 and 'Own Your Kitchen' in 2013. 'I like to put happy and joy into my food, and it's not so serious,' Burrell told Tasting Table in an April interview. 'I teach the worst cooks in the world. I mean, you got to know how to do that.' Diddy's Former Assistant Testifies To Mogul's Armed Suge Knight Confrontation
David James, Sean 'Diddy' Combs' former personal assistant, took the stand Monday (May 19) and Tuesday (May 20) to speak to his experiences while being employed by the Bad Boy Records founder. James said he was 'shook' after seeing the desire by Combs' team to 'grab guns and confront' Suge Knight at a Los Angeles diner in 2008, and the incident was so traumatic that it led to him quitting his job. Per NBC, the event went down at night in Mel's Drive-In while Combs' crew was eating and Diddy's confidante D-Roc spotted the Death Row Records leader. 'That's mother f**king Suge Knight,' Roc said. She said Diddy stopped one of their 'freak-off' sessions so he could go confront the fellow music industry titan, leaving her terrified and worried about what he might do. 'We were having a freak off in one of his homes in L.A. and he said Suge was at Mel's Diner and we packed up and drove down there,' Ventura testified on May 13, per NBC. 'I was screaming and crying, 'Please don't do anything stupid.' I didn't know what they were going to do.' Suge Knight is currently in prison for an unrelated crime.
