Fifteen years after Mike Judge's classic adult animated sitcom was cancelled by Fox, "King of the Hill" returns with brand-new episodes on August 4.
Per Hulu, the synopsis for season 14 of the Emmy-winning series — which stars Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, Stephen Root, Lauren Tom and Toby Huss — reads: "After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas, to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane."

The fan-favorite "Alien" film franchise is getting the small-screen treatment with this new prequel series written and directed by Noah Hawley of "Fargo" fame, which is coming to FX and Hulu on August 12.
"When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat," reads the official synopsis of the sci-fi series, which features actors Sydney Chandler, Samuel Blenkin, Timothy Olyphant, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Alex Lawther, Kit Young and Babou Ceesay, among others, in the cast.
"As members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined," continues the show description. "With this new threat unlocked, the search crew must fight for survival and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it."

Every fan of the titillating true-crime genre knows the name of Amanda Knox and the shocking legal case — in which she was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate — she was embroiled in 15 years ago. Inspired by that true story, this drama series follows Knox's decade-plus-long fight to clear her name, with actress Grace Van Patten portraying Knox in the eight-episode limited series.
With Knox herself serving as an executive producer on the series, "each episode unpacks pivotal moments — the investigation, forensic interpretations, the court of public opinion holding forth in the headlines — to ultimately reveal how an innocent student reclaimed her life," per the streaming service.

Paula Deen abruptly closes restaurant that launched her to celebrity chef status
In the late 1990s, Paula Deen was an independent restaurateur whose family-operated restaurant had just received a glowing review from USA Today. Her life and career were permanently changed. Now, over 25 years later, the Georgia native has announced the closing of the Lady and Sons — the iconic restaurant that made her a star of Southern cuisine and a household name in the cooking world. Opened in downtown Savannah, Ga., in 1996, the Lady and Sons boasted a menu of local classics like fried green tomatoes, banana pudding and hoecakes. The signature dish, Southern fried chicken, was enough to draw lines wrapping around the block — and the restaurant came to be viewed as an embodiment of the indulgent and buttery flavors that characterize Southern cooking. 'There in Savannah, Paula Deen's homestyle Southern menu at the Lady and Sons turned me into a ravenous beast, unmindful of manners, cholesterol, North-South diplomacy and the dropped jaws of my companions,' USA Today, then the nation's most-read daily newspaper, wrote on Dec. 17, 1999. Earlier that year, the popularity of the Lady and Sons caught the attention of Food Network journalist Gordon Elliott. Deen appeared on Elliott's short-lived show 'Door Knock Dinners' that led to her own Daytime Emmy-winning Food Network program, 'Paula's Home Cooking.' On her website and social media accounts, Deen bid farewell to the Lady and Sons and its longtime fans. Also closing is her newer restaurant, the Chicken Box, which opened in 2023. 'Hey, y'all, my sons and I made the heartfelt decision that Thursday, July 31st, was the last day of service for The Lady & Sons and The Chicken Box,' Deen said in the statement. 'We will now focus our attention on the four Paula Deen's Family Kitchen locations across the country.' The announcement came without warning, especially as the restaurant continued to draw tours and lines of customers. Three weeks prior to the announcement, the Lady and Sons posted on Instagram that it was hiring for all positions. Over the years, some of Deen's other restaurants have also closed suddenly. In 2014, employees at Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House — a Savannah eatery she co-owned with her brother, Earl W. 'Bubba' Hiers Jr. — reportedly arrived to work to find the doors locked and the appliances removed. A sign on the door said, 'Thank you for 10 great years. Uncle Bubba's is now closed.' The Panama City, Fla., location of Paula Deen's Family Kitchen also closed abruptly in 2019, laying off 30 employees without advance notice. Several former employees told local news channel WJHG that they were left without their main source of income following the closure. Uncle Bubba's closure came a year after controversy began to surround Deen after a former manager at the restaurant sued Hiers, alleging sexual and racial discrimination. Food Network canceled 'Paula's Home Cooking' after Deen admitted to using a racial slur during a deposition for the 2013 lawsuit. Lawyers asked Deen if she had ever used the N-word, to which Deen replied, 'Yes, of course,' later adding, 'It's been a very long time.' Since then, the 78-year-old has focused on her restaurants. The Lady and Sons, as her core establishment, was the result of a litany of personal struggles and ambition. Both of her parents passed away when she was in her early 20s and Deen, then a young mother, struggled with depression and agoraphobia, or fear of going outside. With only $200 left, Deen founded a catering company out of her kitchen called the Bag Lady. Her handmade bag lunches were delivered by her sons Jamie and Bobby and earned Deen a local reputation for her homestyle cooking. After one attempt at a restaurant, the Lady in 1991, the follow-up, the Lady and Sons, co-owned with Jamie and Bobby, would be her success.

King of the Hill Team Explains Why Hulu's Revival Aged Up Its Characters (and What's Staying the Same)
Hulu is bringing back the animated classic King of the Hill — and it may look a little different than you remember. Unlike The Simpsons, where Bart remains a grade-school prankster forever, King of the Hill decided to age up its characters for Hulu's revival — premiering Monday, Aug. 4 — with Hank and Peggy's son Bobby all grown up and Hank's friend Boomhauer sporting a few new wrinkles. (The original Fox run wrapped up back in 2009.) So why did they decide to bring the good people of Arlen into the future? Bobby is living on his own and working as a chef at a Japanese restaurant, and Hank is forced to contend with new annoyances like Zoom calls and Uber drivers. The characters we know so well are 'experiencing a new phase of life,' Patterson adds, 'and that gave us all a little injection of energy in terms of being excited to revisit these characters.' Now Hank does have some familiarity with the modern world, Patterson emphasizes: 'It's not like he was in a cave. So most modern conveniences and things, he was aware of… It's not as much Hank not knowing how a cell phone works. It's more Hank being frustrated that we use cell phones for things we shouldn't use cell phones for.' Hank and his pals all deal with this new phase of life in their own unique way, Toby Huss (who takes over the voice of Dale for the late Johnny Hardwick) notes: 'Hank is a guy who watches the world change and questions it, and then sometimes steps into that change. And Dale is a guy who sees the change in the world, does not believe the change in the world, and believes that he knows the real reason the world is changing. Everybody has their own take on how the world changes, and how their character fits into it.' But some things never change, as Lauren Tom (who voices Minh and Connie) notes: 'You get to see the characters you know in different situations now, in the modern world. But what has stayed the same is there's a certain sweetness and kindness and authenticity from the original that I think the new one retains.' BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Reveals The New Slayer's Name... Nova — GeekTyrant
Hulu's upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot just dropped a key piece of information that's sure to get longtime fans of the franchise curious… the name of the new Slayer. According to Deadline, Ryan Kiera Armstrong will play Nova, a quiet high school student with a world-changing destiny. This reveal came alongside the announcement that Kingston Vernes has joined the cast. Vernes will portray Carson, a Junior Olympian and popular student at New Sunnydale Academy. He catches Nova's eye early on, and following a pivotal moment, he starts noticing her too. Sounds like a classic Slayer-meets-boy situation, but with a fresh twist. While the show is still untitled, photos from the table read shared by Sarah Michelle Gellar had the title cleverly hidden, and fans are now speculating that it might go with Nova the Vampire Slayer . For now, Hulu has only ordered a pilot, so the full series isn't officially greenlit yet. The Nova itself is Latin for 'new.' Given that Buffy activated every potential Slayer at the end of the original series, this reboot appears to pass the torch to a next-generation Slayer, one who may carry the weight of this new world. That doesn't mean Nova will be the only Slayer around. The pilot recently added five more cast members including Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso, and Jack Cutmore-Scott. It wouldn't be surprising to see at least one more Slayer among them, echoing dynamics from the original series with characters like Kendra and Faith. Although this isn't Buffy Summers' show, Sarah Michelle Gellar is back as Buffy in a mentor role. Nova will be front and center, but Buffy's legacy will still play a part. Gellar is also deeply involved behind the scenes, working alongside Eternals director Chloé Zhao, writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, and executive producer Gail Berman, who was part of the original series. Joss Whedon, the creator of the original show, is not involved with the reboot. For now, all eyes are on Nova. If Hulu moves forward with the series, this new chapter could take us somewhere completely different while honoring the past.
