Chhattisgarh CM Sai pays tribute to cop killed in IED blast, says Maoism on its last breath
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) said the end of Maoism is certain, as he laid wreath at the mortal remains of Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girepunje killed in an IED blast in Sukma district.
The CM said Girepunje's sacrifice will not go in vain.
Girepunje was killed and two officers were injured after the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Maoists exploded on Monday (June 9) in Sukma.
Amid emotional chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Akash Rao Amar Rahe', wreaths were laid on Tuesday (June 10) at the police officer's mortal remains at the headquarters of the 4th battalion of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) in Mana area in Raipur.
Apart from CM Sai, Deputy CMs Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao, State Assembly Speaker Raman Singh, ministers, public representatives and senior administration and police officials were present at the wreath laying ceremony.
Girepunje's family members, including his parents, his wife and two minor children, were also present.
His 7-year-old son bowed at the mortal remains with folded hands, while a relative carried his 6-year-old daughter in his arms.
'We have lost a brave and committed officer. Maoists have committed the cowardly act out of frustration. Maoism is breathing its last and its end is certain,' CM Sai told reporters after being homage to Girepunje.
The Chief Minister, deputy CMs, Raman Singh and other officials lent their shoulders to Girepunje's mortal remains while they were being put in a flower-decked mini-truck at the CAF premises.
Earlier, the body, kept in a coffin, was taken from the police officer's residence in Kushalpur area to the CAF premises in the mini-truck. A huge crowd of people gathered on the road and chanted patriotic slogans.
The mortal remains were later carried for last rites to Mahadev Ghat, with a large number of people joining the funeral procession.

2 girls sexually assaulted at Goa birthday party, 3 arrested
Three minor girls who were invited to celebrate a birthday were allegedly sexually assaulted in North Goa's Bambolim, leading to the arrest of two men. The accused, identified as Altaf Mahboob Mujawar (19) and Om Vinay Naik (21), were taken into custody by the Agashi families of the victims filed a missing complaint on the night of June 8, saying that two girls, aged 13 and 15, had been missing since June 7. Around the same time, another complaint was lodged regarding the disappearance of a 11-year-old girl. Investigations revealed that all three girls had gone North Goa Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta allegedly tried to keep the matter under wraps. However, once the news began surfacing in the media, he formed a special police team to trace the missing girls. Following the formation of the special team, the victims were traced to a hotel in the Calangute area. Police rescued the girls and detained two men present with them. During the investigation, the girls informed the police that they had gone to Calangute to celebrate a birthday. It was then discovered that the 15-year-old and the 11-year-old were sexually registered two separate cases under IPC Sections 137(2), 64(1), 74, 75(1), Section 8(2) of the Goa Children's Act, and Sections 4, 8, and 12 of the POCSO Act. The two men detained earlier were formally Wednesday night, the police also arrested the owner of the hotel where the incident occurred. Rajat Chavan, owner of Krishna Mahadev Hotel in Baga, was arrested by Calangute police for allowing the girls to enter the hotel without parental strict action, Rahul Gupta, Superintendent of Police, said, 'The police are applying for the sealing of the hotel and the cancellation of its license.' He added, 'If any man is given a room without the presence of their family members or relatives, hotel management and owners will not be spared. It is a violation of the Goa Children's Act.' Mango Politics In South: Karnataka Asks Andhra To Revoke 'Totapuri' Ban
New Delhi: Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are engaged in a political standoff over mangoes, with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah writing to his Andhra counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu, urging him to revoke the ban on the entry of Totapuri mangoes from the Chittoor district. The move comes just two days after Karnataka's Chief Secretary formally raised the issue with the Andhra Pradesh government. In his strongly worded letter, Mr Siddaramaiah expressed "deep concern" over the ban, calling it an "abrupt and unilateral move" that has severely impacted mango farmers in Karnataka's border regions. These farmers, he said, grow 'Totapuri' mangoes in large quantities and depend heavily on Chittoor's well-established pulp processing and marketing ecosystem to sell their produce. "The current restriction has disrupted this well-established supply chain and threatens significant post-harvest losses, directly impacting the livelihoods of thousands of farmers," Mr Siddaramaiah wrote in the letter. He also highlighted that the ban undermines the principles of cooperative federalism, warning that such decisions made without prior consultation could lead to avoidable tensions and potential retaliatory measures. "Stakeholders are already expressing discontent that could potentially disrupt the interstate movement of vegetables and other agricultural commodities," the Chief Minister cautioned. The controversy erupted following an order issued on June 7 by the District Collector of Chittoor, which allegedly imposed a ban on 'Totapuri' mangoes entering the district from other states. To enforce the ban, the Andhra Pradesh government is said to have deployed multidisciplinary teams comprising officials from the Revenue, Police, Forest, and Marketing departments at inter-state check posts along the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu borders. On June 10, Karnataka's Chief Secretary flagged the issue to the Andhra Pradesh government. The Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh is a major hub for mango pulp extraction and export, especially of the Totapuri variety. Karnataka farmers have long maintained symbiotic ties with these units. With the ban in place, hundreds of tonnes of Totapuri mangoes are now stuck at the border, risking spoilage and losses for farmers already grappling with high input costs and weather uncertainties. As the mango season is in full swing, both states are now under pressure to resolve the issue quickly and avoid a larger inter-state trade conflict.

Failure on the part of former Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal and Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police N. Yathish in taking effective action against those who made hate speeches and those who posted hate content on social media following the murder of former Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty led to deterioration in the law and order situation and the murder of sand transporter Abdul Rahiman, said Legislative Assembly Speaker and Mangaluru MLA U.T. Khader. 'The new police chiefs (C. H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy for Mangaluru and K. Arun for Dakshina Kannada) are taking effective action and issues, which resulted from the spread of hate contents, have been addressed to about 90%. It makes me wonder why earlier officials failed to act effectively (against hate-mongers),' Mr. Khader told reporters in Mangaluru on June 12. Mr. Khader said he is pained over the mob lynching of 38-year-old rag-picker Ashraf on April 27, which was followed by the murder of Suhas Shetty on May 1 and Abdul Rahiman's murder on May 27. All the accused in the three incidents should be ostracised and they should undergo harsh imprisonment, he said. The Speaker, who returned to Mangaluru from Haj pilgrimage on June 11, said, before leaving for the Haj, he had asked the earlier officials — Mr. Agrawal and Mr. Yathish — to trace hate-mongers sitting abroad. 'But they had expressed their helplessness in taking action against them.' Referring to the effective way in which the newly-posted officials are acting against hate-mongers, Mr. Khader expressed the need to put in place a standard operating procedure by which there will be uniformity in the way officials act against hate-mongers. 'I will write to Home Minister (G. Parameshwara) in this regard. I will also ask him to find reasons why earlier officials failed to act effectively against hate-mongers.' The mob lynching and two murders have hit the harmonious culture and lifestyle of Dakshina Kannada. Not just the government, but all should contribute to restore peace and harmony in the district, Mr. Khader said.
