SCT's ‘Cult-a-Way' fest returns with a bang
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCT) is all set to host Cult-a-Way 2025, its flagship techno-cultural festival, at Kanakakkunnu on May 30, 31, and June 1.
Now in its 13th edition, Cult-a-Way promises a blend of culture, entertainment, tech, and more.
'It is open to the public. Entry is free, except for performances at the Nishagandhi Auditorium, for which tickets will be charged,' says Nandagopan G, a final-year student and public relations coordinator of Cult-a-Way.
The entertainment lineup is an impressive mix of musical talent, featuring Tamil artist Yogi Shekhar, bollywood singer Akasa Singh, Gabri, Urmi, and MC Cooper, among others. At least seven top artists will perform over the three days.
In addition to the performances, the festival will host a series of tech workshops in collaboration with various academic departments at SCT.
Visitors can also look forward to quizzes, a flea market, and stalls selling food, clothing, and accessories. 'We're also focusing on promoting entrepreneurship—both from within the college and outside,' adds Nandagopan.
As a prelude to the main event, a pre-fest run called 'Cult Run' will be held on May 28 at Manaveeyam Veedhi, in collaboration with KIMS Health, to raise awareness about mental health.
'More than just a college fest, this is a tech institution's fun way to reach out to the masses,' adds Nandagopan.

Imtiaz Ali Recalls Being Almost Arrested For Depicting Ratlam As Red Light Area In Jab We Met
Last Updated: Imtiaz Ali faced a non-bailable arrest warrant over Jab We Met's Ratlam scene, accused of defaming the town as a red-light area. Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met (2007) remains a beloved Bollywood rom-com, celebrated for its charming leads, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, and its iconic train station moments. Yet, beneath the film's lighthearted vibe lies a surprising legal controversy that nearly put the director behind bars. In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter and film critic Anupama Chopra, Ali revealed a lesser-known drama tied to a scene set in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, which triggered a defamation row. The controversy stemmed from a funny sequence where the lead characters end up in a seedy Ratlam hotel. While the scene amused audiences, it angered Ratlam locals, who felt it tarnished their town's reputation. Ali recounted the legal fallout, saying, 'The first time there was a court summons for me and then I had a non-bailable arrest warrant because of Ratlam ki Galiyan." He added, 'The chargesheet said that the town, erstwhile known for delicacies like chivda, fafda, and mixture, has been defamed by Imtiaz Ali being the place of red light." The accusation was that Jab We Met portrayed Ratlam, a town famous for its snacks like chivda and fafda, as a red-light district, offending the local community. The situation escalated while Ali was busy filming his next movie, Love Aaj Kal, in Kolkata. He recalled the panic when his producer, Dinesh Vijan, warned him about the arrest warrant. 'I was shooting in Calcutta when Dino [Dinesh Vijan] came running to me and said, 'Sir, there's a non-bailable arrest warrant and if they come to know you are here, they will come and arrest you.' I said, 'Yaar, just yesterday it was in the papers that we're shooting here.' And Dino said, 'Mera toh bohot loss ho jayega agar tu arrest ho gaya (I'll suffer a huge loss if you get arrested).'" Despite the controversy, Jab We Met continues to win hearts, proving its timeless appeal. First Published:

'What Ridiculous Lyrics': Punjabi Rapper Baba Sehgal Slams AR Rahman's Hit Song
Last Updated: Baba Sehgal shared that it might be possible that AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam likely didn't understand the Hindi lyrics of the song themselves Singer Baba Sehgal has disclosed his dissatisfaction with the lyrics of the Hindi version of the iconic track ' Rukmani Rukmani ' from the film Roja, composed by AR Rahman. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sehgal shared that he was approached for the Hindi version of the Tamil song during a performance in Chennai. An assistant director played the Tamil version for him, but he did not pay much attention and agreed to it. Sehgal claimed that Rahman and his team pleaded for his help to release the song, leading Sehgal to contact friends who requested he sing the Hindi version. 'When I saw the Hindi lyrics, I thought, ' Kitne wahiyat geet hain yaar. Kisne likha hai ye! (The lyrics are ridiculous, who has written it!) The issue is that songs in a different language sound fine, but in our language, we understand the meaning better. I don't think Rahman or Ratnam knew what those Hindi lyrics meant," Sehgal shared. Just One Collaboration With AR Rahman Sehgal revealed that the collaboration with Rahman was limited to just this one song. 'It was forced upon me. I didn't agree with the song; I found it very cheap. Another woman was brought in to sing the female dialogues. Later, I asked Swetha Shetty to sing them as well, and she did so brilliantly. This was my first and last song with Rahman, as language proved a barrier. We never met again after that," he said. Who Is Baba Sehgal? Baba Sehgal is credited with introducing rap to India in 1992 with his song ' Thanda Thanda Paani '. Originally an electrical engineer, he rose to fame as a rap star in the early 1990s, aided by the rise of MTV. Over the years, he released several popular songs and later appeared in films. He continues to engage his audience by sharing songs and music-related videos on social media. First Published:

Other than the lead duo, the film also stars Shashank, Abhirami, Dileepan, Riythvika, Aadukalam Naren, Ravi Varma, Arjai and Kireeti Damaraju among others. This D. Imman musical is cinematographed by Karthik Ashokan and edited by N. B. Srikanth. Eleven's plot overview A series of murders targeting twins leads detective Aravind to investigate a masked killer named Benjamin. The killer is manipulating surviving twins into murdering their own siblings. As Aravind, assisted by Officer Manohar, pieces together clues, he uncovers the horrifying pattern behind the murders. A significant flashback reveals the killer's troubled past at a school, highlighting issues of neglect. Eleven's review The Times of India rated the movie 2.5 out of 5, and a part of their review read, 'The film guides you by the hand, showing you exactly where it's going. You're not so much solving it with Aravind as you are waiting for him to confirm what feels increasingly obvious. The events never get a chance to unfold naturally. The slightly ambivalent ending is a welcome touch over a neat resolution. At least it knew when to leave some questions hanging.' Do you think Eleven will find its due on OTT?
