Gov. McMaster to discuss hurricane season preps in Charleston County
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Governor Henry McMaster will be in the Lowcountry to discuss the state's preparation for the 2025 hurricane season.
McMaster will meet with state and local emergency management officials for a briefing at the Charleston Emergency Operations Center in North Charleston.
State emergency management officials have encouraged residents to prepare for the upcoming season.
Gov. McMaster declared May as South Carolina Hurricane Preparedness Month, giving people plenty of time to take precautions, like restocking their hurricane supply kits and creating a safety plan for a possible disaster, well before an event occurs.
Researchers are calling for another above-average hurricane season. In their pre-season forecast, Colorado State University is predicting 17 named storms, including nine hurricanes, and four major hurricanes; however, it only takes one storm to make it a bad hurricane season.

Hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through the end of November.

'Our parade was about half the size': Rain-filled week hurts Lebanon Route 66 Festival turnout
Lebanon, MO — The annual Lebanon Route 66 Festival was held at Boswell Park on June 7. As always, the event featured food vendors, games and live music for families to enjoy. 'It's been a great event.' Bruce Owen, president of the Lebanon of Laclede County Route 66 Society said. 'People come from overseas to see it and everything, it's just a big thing.' While the festival saw positive reception from attendees, Owens states that the heavy rain and flooding during the week caused fewer people to show up this year. 'We usually have a lot more,' Owen said, 'But it was raining this morning, and a lot of people won't get their antique or classic cars out in the rain. Our parade was about half the size and our whole car show was about half the size.' Despite the lower turnout, he says that it was 'more than we expected' and that 'we are happy with how it turned out.' Owen believes that it is important for Lebanon, both economically and culturally, to continue to hold the Route 66 Festival for years to come. 'It's for our city,' said Owen. 'We're showing our support and what our 66 really is, you know, we wouldn't be here as a town probably as big or as industrial if it weren't for our 66.' Springfield was recently announced as the host city for two Birthplace of Route 66 Festivals: the first starting in August 2025, while the larger event will take place sometime in 2026, which will be broadcast nationwide. Weather Forecast: Unsettled weather pattern to start off the week
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — I hope you were able to get outside and enjoy the dry weather because we are now entering an unsettled weather pattern. Rain showers are expected to enter the region around dinnertime this evening. Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 50s for overnight lows. We're keeping an eye on the potential for afternoon thunderstorms tomorrow, some of which could become strong to severe. As more forecast model data comes in, we'll have a clearer picture of their strength and impact. If conditions begin to look concerning, we'll be sure to keep you updated. Additionally, another round of thunderstorms may move through late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Tuesday's weather will remain unsettled, with off-and-on rain showers expected throughout the day. While widespread severe weather is unlikely, periods of light to moderate rain could make for a damp and overcast day. Temperatures will hover near seasonal averages, and lingering moisture from Monday may lead to areas of patchy morning fog, especially in low-lying spots. After Tuesday's showers, a welcome change is on the horizon. Beginning Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure is expected to settle over the region, bringing several days of warm, dry, and sunny weather. This stretch of pleasant conditions should last through at least Thursday—perfect for outdoor plans, travel, or simply soaking up some early summer sunshine. Daytime highs will climb into the upper 70s to low 80s, with comfortable overnight lows and relatively low humidity. Looking ahead to the weekend, we're monitoring the potential for more showers. As of 1:55 p.m., 6,363 Dominion Energy customers are without power as 253 incidents are causing outages across the state. Nearly 2,000 Berkeley Electric Cooperative customers are without power, according to their outage map. Call your electric company to report as quickly as possible and include details. Unplug all appliances that were in use before the power outage.
